PRACTICE: Preece Ready for Record

Former Champion Leads Field In Session At Bowman Gray

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Ryan Preece has said he loves coming south to race at Bowman Gray Stadium and he proved that by leading the way in practice at Bowman Gray Stadium for the Strutmasters.com 199.

The 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion has already won once this season in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour – at South Boston Speedway – and he’s off to a good start for win No. 2 as he led the field with a fast lap of 13.191 seconds (68.228 mph) in the 45-minute session.

Preece’s fast lap approached the track qualifying record time of 13.186 seconds, set by Tim Brown in 2008. Today’s Coors Light Pole qualifying is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Four-time NWSMT champion George Brunnhoelzl III was a close behind Preece at 13.339 seconds (67.471) as he looks for his second career Stadium win.

Defending champion Andy Seuss was third (13.358/67.375) with Danny Bohn, who won a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race last night at Bowman Gray, fourth on the speed chart (13.481/66.761).

John Smith, making his first start since his former car owner Grady Tutterow lost his brief battle with cancer, finished fifth.

Whelen Modified Tour regular Eric Goodale joined Preece in making the trip south and was sixth with Kyle Ebersole, Jeremy Gerstner, Jason Myers and Joe Ryan Osborne rounding out the top 10.

Green flag for the Strutmasters.com 199 slated for approximately 8:40 p.m.
