Haws Seeking a Win and the Points Lead at Myrtle Beach
YOUNGSVILLE, N.C.– Brayton Haws is heading to the beach this weekend. No, not to just hang out, but to race. The CARS Tour is taking on South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach Speedway on Saturday, September 19 for the Bakerdist.com 200 and Haws is looking to regain the Late Model Stock Car series’ points lead at the end of 100 laps.
“It would mean a lot to win there, but honestly I need the win for the points standings right now,” said Haws. “We are second in points and we are two behind Myatt Snider. We’ve got two races left so we have to race for points.”
The 16-year-old driver from Youngsville, North Carolina said he’s excited to head back to Myrtle Beach because it’s been a while since he’s gotten to race at the famous oceanside race track.
“Myrtle Beach is definitely a good track for us,” he said. “I haven’t been there since the 400 last November, but once we get out there and start practicing a little bit I’ll get the hang of it. I think it’ll be a good race and very competitive.”
Myrtle Beach is one of just a few tracks that Haws has actually been to on the CARS Tour calendar. Most of the tracks that the CARS Tour has visited Haws had never seen before arriving on race day. He’s raced at Myrtle Beach twice, but noted that he actually does enjoy going to new tracks.
“The tracks we had never been to have been good to us this year, because we’ve picked up a few wins at them,” he said.
Haws finished sixth at the Myrtle Beach 400 last year, but he believes he’s going to have to do better than that to reclaim the lead in the standings.
“Really this whole year we’ve just been going for wins,” said Haws. “Our philosophy hasn’t changed. We just need good finishes. I can’t put myself in a position to get wrecked or in any bad situation.”
