North East Street Stock Tour Invaders to Challenge Claremont Regulars
NO. STONINGTON, CT – Is there such a thing as home field advantage in stock car racing? Perhaps.
They may not be called Street Stocks, but Claremont Speedway’s Limited Sportsman Division bears a striking resemblance to the production cars raced in the North East Street Stock Tour (NESST). In fact, this Friday night at the quirky, New Hampshire oval, the two will race together in an NESST-sanctioned race.
NESST part-timer, Tyler Janovsky, finished 10th in the opener at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, a place where he has minimal experience. His home track is Claremont Speedway. He began racing there in 2012, prior to the track’s closure. He then became a regular at Monadnock Speedway in the Thunder Stocks were he was able to amass two race wins and Rookie of the Year honors.
Fast forward to 2015, and Janovsky is back at Claremont in the Limited Sportsman. He was a title contender throughout the season, finishing third in the standings – the division’s highest-finishing rookie.
Last Friday night, Claremont opened their 2016 season, and Janovsky bested the field, beginning his 2016 title quest with a race win.
Introduce Joe Arena (Bristol, CT), the inaugural and defending NESST Champion. He began his season last month with a race win at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, a place where he has turned thousands of laps.
That’s not the case at Claremont, though. It’s Janovsky who has the advantage of experience. Arena has only raced there several times.
“That’s a unique track. It has two very different and unique corners. It’s a tough place to get around,” driver of the No. 74 Hen House BBQ/Traditional Mortgage/Dalena Auto Parts Chevrolet Malibu, explained.
Claremont’s best will be pinned against the best of NESST in a 35-lap shootout. So, is there such a thing as home field advantage in stock car racing? Perhaps. Come to Claremont Speedway on Friday night to find out. Racing begins at 7pm.
