Stockton 99 Speedway Continues Tri-Holiday Tradition on Saturday May 28th

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (May 24, 2016) – For many years, Stockton 99 Speedway has hosted the Tri-Holiday Classic commemorating Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends with large stock car showcases. That tradition continues Saturday night as the Pacific Challenge Series Super Late Models invade the historic quarter-mile speedway for 100 laps of action. They will be joined by the resurgent Stockton Late Models, Legends of the Pacific, and Bombers.

This is the 68th season of racing competition at the bullring on N. Wilson Way. The Pacific Challenge Series has carried the torch for the Tri-Holiday Series for several years now with local drivers challenging the touring stars. Modesto’s Mike Beeler, a former weekly series competitor at the track, won the most recent Tri-Holiday feature on Labor Day weekend last year. The “Iron Man” John Moore won the July Tri-Holiday race last year en route to both the Tri-Holiday and overall PCS championships.

2016 Pacific Challenge Series points leader Jeremy Doss of Upperlake, CA won Tri-Holiday #1 last season. He leads all PCS competitors with three victories in six career PCS starts at Stockton. Beeler ranks second in PCS stats at the facility with five top-tens and a win in six starts.

Local favorites are fired up for the show including Manteca’s Jacob Gomes. Gomes won the 2015 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour and has wins in the past in the Tri-Holiday Series. He runs a limited PCS schedule and will be in action for the entire Tri-Holiday Series. Although he never won a Super Stock track championship, Lodi’s Matthew Wendt scored 11 victories in the division before graduating to the PCS. Tracy’s Justin Philpott has called 99 home for many years. Modesto’s Kyle Gottula and Manteca’s JR Courage are other drivers from multi-generational racing families that have turned many laps at the speedway.

The local Stockton Late Models program opened up its brand-new season two weeks ago with former Stockton Western Late Model and Super Stock champion Chad Holman getting the win. This is the return of Late Models to Stockton with a combination of former Super Stock and Late Model teams. Drivers such as Justin Lovelace, Brandon Jones, Jeremy Tucker, and Teddy Haflich, Jr. are new to Late Models but have racing experience in other divisions at Stockton and at tracks across the region.

Legends of the Pacific make their first start of the year on Saturday night with drivers of all ages battling in identically prepared spec cars. The cars carry a throwback look to Fords and Chevys from the 1930s but in a half scale. Robby Czub and Luis Tyrrell are among the race winners so far in this touring division. John Medina won the season opener for the Bombers two weeks ago in the fan-favorite division.

Local track championships will be decided all summer long leading up to the season finale on September 17th.

Racing activities get underway Friday night with practice from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and pricing is $40 per person with no car fee. On Saturday pit gates open at 1 p.m. with first practices at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands open at 5 p.m. with racing scheduled for 6 p.m. Pit passes are $45 on Saturday.
