Forecasted Severe Storms Cancel PPMS and End Point Season, Sprint Car Race Added

Imperial, PA (September 10, 2016)  The forecast for severe storms at race time forced the cancellation of the Saturday night racing program Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway scheduled for September 10.

With the final point race of the 2016 racing season having been canceled, point standings are now complete and track champions are as follows.  Brandon Burgoon is the 2016 Diehl Automotive Super Late Model champion, as their point race ended two weeks ago.  John Mollick will be the 2016 Precise Racing Products RUSH Late Model champion, nosing Daryl Charlier by three points for the title.  The 2016 Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman champion will be Dave McManus.  In the Miley BP Car Wash Hobby Stock division, Casey Grumling overtook Dale Tuche for the division lead last week, and earned the 2016 division championship.  Likewise in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, the lead changed hands last week with Ben Anton grabbing the point lead and earning the championship by 14 points over Michael Jackson.

Information on the rescheduling of the Wee Willie White race will be released when it is available.  However, just added to the schedule will be the addition of the winged 410 Sprints to the upcoming program on Saturday, September 17.  The rain date for the Sprint event will be October 1.  They will race for $2,000 to win and $200 to start.  Also on the schedule for the September 17 will be the RUSH Late Models racing for $1,000 to win, Sportsman using Laboon race rules, Open Hobby Stocks, Young Guns, and open Four Cylinders.  Super Late Model teams are welcome to attend any of the remaining race nights to use as practice sessions.  There are also scheduled events on September 24 and October 1 that will feature $1,000 to win RUSH Late Models, Sportsman using Laboon race rules, RUSH Modifieds, Open Hobby Stocks, Young Guns, and open Four Cylinders.

The Super Late Models will return to end the 2016 season on Friday and Saturday, October 7 and 8, with the running of the 28th Annual Pittsburgher 100.  Highlighting Saturday’s card will be the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, as the 100 lap race will pay $20,000 to the winner.  Last year’s event was voted as the fourth best race in the country by the website Dirt on Dirt, and this year’s edition should be even better.  Also in competition on Pittsburgher weekend are a Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series Marquee event, and the Sportsman/Pro Stock Showdown.  Feature events will run on Saturday’s card, with preliminary events on the Friday night card.

Next Saturday’s program will start at 7:00, with gates opening at 5:00 and hot laps at 6:00.  The track is located west of the city of Pittsburgh, just south of the Noblestown exit of U.S. Route 22, or 170 Kelso Road in Imperial, PA, for GPS purposes.  The track phone is 724-695-3363 on race days, or call 412-279-RACE.  For complete information please visit the track website at www.ppms.com.
