Brandon Gdovic & DAC Motorsports Complete Rolex 24 Hours in 13th Place

Brandon Gdovic joined DAC Motorsports to compete in the 55th annual Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona January 28-29th at Daytona International Speedway. As a late entry, Gdovic, on the heels of a second consecutive successful Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series season, was tapped to round out the No. 18 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 team in the GTD division of the most prestigious endurance race in North America. Although the team faced setbacks that may have parked other competitors, Gdovic crossed the finish line in 13th place completing the entire race.

Gdovic had quite a lengthy list of obstacles to overcome to ultimately leave Daytona as successfully as he did. He joined the DAC Motorsports team after the Roar Before the 24, the race’s official pre-race practice sessions. Gdovic, in his first time behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3, was able to find speed early on in practice and throughout the race. Having worked with two of his co-drivers throughout the Super Trofeo season, the team had a rapport and was able to collaborate easily.

Unfortunately, during qualifying, Gdovic’s teammate was involved in a violent incident when a tire blew, destroying the No. 18 Lamborghini Huracan. But the DAC Motorsports crew stepped up to the plate and flew into action purchasing a show car from another Lamborghini team and preparing it for the following day’s event. After an overnight rebuild and with literally seconds to spare before the cars rolled out, the car was ready to race.

2017 Marks a Rebirth for ThorSport Racing

Defined by Longstanding Partnership with Menards

Sandusky, Ohio (January 30, 2017) – The 2017 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season will mark the rebirth for Sandusky, Ohio-based team, ThorSport Racing. Rising from the ashes, after a fire destroyed much of the teams 100,000 sq. ft. facility, just seven months ago, the team enters their 22nd consecutive season in the NCWTS with a new state-of-the-art rebuild, thanks in part to longstanding partnership with Menards.

“My team of over 100, gutted the existing race shop and rebuilt it,” said George Sharp, Operations Manager for ThorWorks Industries. “With this happening in the middle of the season, the goal was to get the team back in the shop as soon as possible. Day-by-day the team started moving back into portions of the shop. We expect the rebuild to be completed around the end of January. There is absolutely no way we could have made that happen without the help of Menards.”

Menards, a Midwest home-improvement store chain, with a long history in racing, enters their 13th consecutive season in the NCWTS with Matt Crafton and ThorSport Racing in 2017.

Rolex 24 at Daytona ‘Business Finished’ for Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R Team

Taylor Brothers, Angelelli, Gordon Finally Score Breakthrough Win After Trouble-Free Performances the Previous Four Years Come Up Short

Date: Jan. 28-29, 2017

Event: 55th Rolex 24 At Daytona (Round 1 of 10)

Series: Prototype division of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

Location: Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (3.56-mile, 12-turn road course)

Start/Finish: 4th / 1st (Running, Completed 659 of 659 laps)

Winner: Ricky Taylor, Jordan Taylor, Max Angelelli and Jeff Gordon of Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R

Point Standing: 1st (35 points, three ahead of second)

The resounding theme for this year’s 55th Rolex 24 At Daytona for the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi.V.R team and its drivers Ricky and Jordan Taylor, Max “The Ax” Angelelli and Jeff Gordon, and especially for team owner Wayne Taylor, was “unfinished business.”

After the team turned in a trouble-free performance for the fifth consecutive year at this weekend’s renewal of the traditional IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener, the Taylor brothers, the veteran Italian Angelelli and four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Gordon were able to seal the deal this time, albeit by surviving a wild sprint to the finish Sunday, in scoring an emotional Rolex 24 victory in numerous respects. Call it “business finished.”

Ricky Taylor, who qualified fourth and got things off to a solid start Saturday afternoon during his opening stint, made a thrilling pass for the lead of fellow Cadillac DPi-V.R driver Filipe Albuquerque in the No. 5 Action Express Racing entry just five laps from the finish – with just six minutes to go in the 24-hour marathon. Taylor then held off Albuquerque the rest of the way and took the checkered flag by a .671-of-a-second margin of victory.

Krause Making Gains Indoors

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — Andrew Krause of Holmdel, NJ won his B-Main to earn a starting spot into the Gambler’s Classic.

Krause admittedly had “quite a bit of work” since finishing 17th in Allentown, PA last month.

The asphalt Modified driver is adjusting to the tight confines of historic Boardwalk Hall.

“This is nothing like anything you could really get any experience from other than just coming here and turning some laps. The way the car handles, the way you have to drive the car, the racing attitude that other drivers have. It’s just a whole different world.”

Nicole Chambrello Ready to Turn Her Luck Around in Stafford Speedway’s DARE Stock Division

Stafford Springs, CT — With the 2017 season fast approaching, Kensington native Nicole Chambrello is looking to get things turned around after a difficult 2016 season.  Chambrello enjoyed her best season behind the wheel of her #16 Superior Refinishing Chevrolet during the 2015 season with 4 top-5 and 16 top-10 finishes, including her one and only win.  Last season was a bit of a rough patch for Chambrello as she recorded one top-5 finish and 10 top-10 finishes, but she is looking forward to getting back on the track and starting off with a clean slate.

“I’m really excited for this season,” said Chambrello.  “I think everything is going to come together for us this year.  Last year we had it a little rough but I think we’re going to have a great season.  After getting our first win in 2015 we had so much confidence going into last season.  I know we can get another win and we’re going to prove that we don’t get knocked down easily.  It seemed like we were in the right place at the wrong time a lot last year and that can wear on your confidence as a driver.  But I’m ready to put that all behind me and start off this season with a fresh new mindset.”

The 2016 season didn’t get off to the best of starts for Chambrello, as she recorded three finishes of 12th or worse in the first five races.  She is looking to have a better start to her 2017 season and acknowledges that the bad results took a toll on her confidence as a driver.

David Tefft and Westfield Technical Academy Students Prepared for 2017 at Stafford

Stafford Springs, CT — After getting his feet wet with a five-race foray into the Limited Late Model division in 2015, Southampton, MA native David Tefft ran his first full season at Stafford Speedway in 2016 with a truly unique crew.  Tefft is an automotive instructor at Westfield Technical Academy and his high school automotive program students help serve as his crew both in the shop during the week and at the track on Friday nights.  Tefft and his team of students are busy preparing his #3 machine for action in 2017.  With a full season under their belts, Tefft is looking to expand the student program to include students from Dean Technical High School to join his students from Westfield.

“The car is at school 100% of the time and I’d say over the last year we’ve had on and off around 35 different kids as part of the program,” said Tefft.  “During the season whatever work on the car that is curriculum relevant we do during the day and if it isn’t then we usually take one day a week after school to come in and work on the car and we keep the same schedule during the offseason.  Currently we’re at a point of doing some paint and touchup work on the car.  On average I’d say I have 2 or 3 students at the track with me each Friday night and we have our sponsors Belco Construction, Alburg Golf Links, and Westfield Sign Shop to thank for getting them into the track each Friday night.  I’d say this program has been a success so far.  I don’t think any other schools offer a program like this.  Whereas playing basketball or football doesn’t really apply to a student’s trade area, we’re doing things that will directly apply to student’s fields once they graduate.  We’re looking at adding students from Dean Technical High School to join our students from Westfield to make this program even bigger and better.”

While the main focus of the #3 team is automotive, the world of auto racing has drawn students from all different departments at the school.  In addition to racing the car on Friday nights, Tefft has brought his #3 machine to local fairs and car shows to show off and promote his student program, which reaches into the marketing world and draws students from some of the other vocational programs that Westfield Technical Academy has to offer.

Introducing the Midwest Thunder Sprint Cars presented by www.OpenWheel101.com

January 27, 2016 – Introducing the (Your Name Here) Midwest Thunder Sprint Cars presented bywww.OpenWheel101.com!  I’ve been thinking of the best way to give back to sprint car racing through our website, and I’ve come up with a points system that will be based on 70+ 410 sprint car shows here in the Midwest.  The National Sprint League was a huge plus the past couple of seasons, and its absence leaves a gap.  So too, does the sale of Badlands Motor Speedway (Huset’s).  I thought it would be a good way to give back to the drivers in the Midwest, and maybe we can expand on that in the future.

The Central PA Sprint Cars Presented by Hoseheads.com has grown from a first year of $2,000 paid to the champ, to $23,000 this past year spread over the top ten spots.  That growth has occurred thanks to partners including title sponsors Champion Oil and Speedway Motors this past year, and several associate partners.

Allan Holland of Hoseheads is donating the first $1,000 as an associate partner for the Midwest Thunder Sprint Cars and we want to grow it from there!  There are a number of ways to contribute, whether you are a business or individual who just wants to donate to the cause for yourself, in honor of someone else, or to just help the growth of sprint car racing here in the Midwest and beyond.  There are options from title series sponsorship, to associate sponsorship to a quarterly donation.

Tri-Track Modified Series Opens 2017 Preregistration for Point Fund & Bonus Eligibility

Seekonk, Ma. (January 27, 2017): The Northeast Race Cars & Parts Tri-Track Open Modified Series (TTOMS) has officially opened preregistration for the 2017 season. Race teams looking to compete in the four-race schedule with eligibility for the lucrative point fund and bonus plan must register by April 1, 2017.

TTOMS will host four races including events at Seekonk and Star Speedways and two events at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl with an excess of $30,000 in point fund money up for grabs. The cumulative point fund at the end of the year will be distributed among the top 25 in owners’ points.

“Jim (Schaefer) and Dick (Williams) have worked hard on this series since its inception to build a strong foundation and that includes the point fund,” said managing partner Wayne Darling. “This is a healthy payout for a four-race schedule. And, believe me, Jim is still working hard to build that up.”

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 27, 2017. . . Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R: Rolex 24 At Daytona Qualifying Report

Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R Qualifying Report

55th Rolex 24 At Daytona

Date: Jan. 26, 2017

Event: 55th Rolex 24 At Daytona (Round 1 of 10)

Series: Prototype division of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

Location: Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (3.56-mile, 12-turn road course)

Pole Winner: Joao Barbosa of Action Express Racing (1:36.903 at 132.2 mph)

Wayne Taylor Racing: 4th by Ricky Taylor (1:37.169 at 131.8 mph)

The brand new No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R – making its first official race appearance this weekend – will start the 55th annual Rolex 24 At Daytona from the outside of the second row after IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying Thursday afternoon at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

Ricky Taylor, who’s sharing the cockpit with his brother and full-time co-driver Jordan Taylor, as well as veteran Italian Max “The Ax” Angelelli in his final career sportscar race and four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon, drove a fast lap of 1 minute, 37.169 seconds at 131.8 mph around the 3.56-mile, 12-turn superspeedway road course layout. It was good for fourth overall among 55 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag Saturday for traditional 24-hour season opener.

“I think we’ve got a really good car for the race,” said Ricky Taylor, who also qualified fourth here last year en route to the team’s third runner-up finish in the last four Rolex 24s. “It’s disappointing to not get the pole, but it’s nice to see Cadillacs one, two and four in their debut – so strong. I think we’ve got a proven team and crew and driver lineup for the race and I’m very optimistic. We know we have a fast car, but being a brand new car, the only question left on the minds of our fans and followers, I guess, is how the new Cadillac is going to hold up for 24 hours. I can say that I don’t think we could’ve done any more than we’ve done in terms of preparation. I’d go so far as to say we’re the most prepared of all the teams here, knock on wood. We’ve worked out a lot of bugs during all the testing, and I think we’ve got all the confidence we can expect. So, anything that happens from this point forward is out of our control.”
