Woody Pitkat to Run Double Duty at TSMP in 2017

The 2017 season is shaping up to be a busy one for Woody Pitkat. Already committed to a new NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour ride with Goodie Motorsports, and returning to his Stan Mertz owned No. 6 Sunoco Modified at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Pitkat will also be driving Jeff Hartwell’s No. 91 Late Model entry.  Returning to the Late Model Division is a homecoming for Pitkat, whose roots are in a full-fendered race car.

Pitkat raced against Hartwell at Stafford Motor Speedway previously, and the two developed a mutual respect for each other. One of Hartwell’s crew members had always pushed him to explore the option of having Pitkat drive one of his cars. Hartwell finally took his advice and made the call just recently. Pitkat was surprised as he originally thought he was joking. He talked details over and went to take a look at the car where an agreement was ultimately made. While Pitkat looks forward to being back behind the wheel of a full-fendered car he also looks to deepen his relationship with the Hartwell Motorsports team by being present at the team’s shop.

“It’s tough to do when there are other commitments and priorities. But with his shop being so close to Thompson and close to me I can make an effort to be there and get involved. The more time we spend together the better it will get. That’s how we’ll build this,” the 2015 Sunoco Modified Champion explained.

Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R: Rolex 24 At Daytona Preview – R. Taylor, J. Taylor, Angelelli, Gordon

55th Rolex 24 At Daytona Marks Debut of Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (Jan. 24, 2017) – Storylines abound in the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R camp for this weekend’s 55th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, during which the full-time driver duo of Ricky and Jordan Taylor hope to send off retiring veteran Max “The Ax” Angelelli with a win while being joined by four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon and, in the process, embarking on the historic introduction of a stunning new racecar.

If it all came down to one headline, it would be “Unfinished Business.”

This year’s traditional IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener welcomes the highly anticipated Daytona Prototype international formula to its top-tier Prototype class, and the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team hopes to be the first victor among the myriad manufacturer representatives who are debuting all-new racecars at America’s most iconic sportscar race.

For team owner Wayne Taylor and his 2005 Rolex 24 and series championship co-driver Angelelli, it represents a chance to take care of unfinished business as they collaborated on Cadillac’s previous prototype-class effort from 2000 through 2002.

Anthony Kumpen to Race Daytona for Precision Performance Motorsports

China Grove, N.C. (January 24, 2017) – Reigning NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Champion Anthony Kumpen will make his fifth NASCAR XFINITY Series start and fourth with Precision Performance Motorsports in the PowerShares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, February 25th, 2017. Kumpen will be piloting the No. 46 LeasePlan Chevrolet Camaro.

Kumpen’s XFINITY Series start at Daytona International Speedway will be part of the Nexteer Road to Daytona program – the path designed by the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and Nexteer Automotive to bring European drivers to race in NASCAR in the US. Kumpen competed in three XFINITY Series races in 2015 with Precision Performance Motorsports in order to gain NASCAR approval to race at the famed superspeedway. The road course racer acquired valuable experience at each venue, exceeding expectations each week and besting many circle-track veterans. He debuted at Daytona in 2016, running as high as sixth before ultimately finishing the event in 26th.

“Daytona is the biggest event in NASCAR. I can’t wait to be back and I want to thank Leaseplan, all my partners, the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and its Nexteer Road to Daytona program for making this happen,” said the Belgian, who joined the program built by NWES and Nexteer following his championship season in 2014. “Last year I had to learn a lot – especially about racing in the pack and drafting – in a very short time. This time we will build on the experience as a team and work to make the car faster and do better each and every lap. I would be really happy to finish in the top-15.”
