Tony Stewart Racing: Donny Schatz World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series FVP Spring Shootout Advance

Defending FVP Spring Shootout Winner Looks To Continue Stockton Streak; TSR’s Arctic Cat/Ford Performance Team Focused on Big Picture

INDIANAPOLIS (March 22, 2017) – Constant improvement is the goal for Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing (TSR) each and every night of competition with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Sprint Car Series. What they learn now may help them later during one of the most grueling race schedules in all of motorsports. Their expectations continue to soar early in the 2017 campaign and, despite winning six of the first eight WoO A-Feature races, eight-time and reigning WoO champion Donny Schatz and his team of Rick Warner, Steve Swenson and Brad Mariscotti know they must continue getting better.

Improvement at this week’s venue, the Stockton (Calif.) Dirt Track, will be a tall order for the TSR No. 15 Arctic Cat/Ford Performance/Curb J&J. Schatz swept both nights of the 2016 FVP Western Spring Shootout at the 3/8-mile, dirt oval located on the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. Those results won’t factor in the team’s quest to continue one of the best starts a team has ever had in the 40-year history of “The Greatest Show on Dirt,” but the collection of notes from six previous races at the facility should help them build a solid plan of attack.

This weekend is the second leg of the Outlaws’ annual spring tour of the Golden State and, just as was the case last week, the TSR Arctic Cat/Ford Performance team enters the weekend as the series’ most recent winner. After seeing their five-race WoO winning streak end last Friday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Schatz and crew bounced back in typical championship form by posting a complete nightSaturday at Thunderbowl that began with qualifying third and concluded with Schatz making bold late-race passes around Brad Sweet and Daryn Pittman to capture his first victory at the track since 2007.

It’s All in the Family for Brian Tagg

THOMPSON, CT – For nearly four decades the Tagg name has appeared on entry lists at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. John Tagg piloted one of the earliest versions of his Modified. His son, Tom, competed in the Sunoco Modifieds, a division he earned a championship in 1990. Currently, third generation driver, Brian, keeps the family tradition alive, piloting the No. 9 entry in the Thompson Speedway Motorsport Park Late Model Division.

The 2015 Late Model Champion, Brian, started his career behind the wheel of a Thompson Modified. There he achieved reasonable success, missing a 2009 championship due to a self-admitted driver error. After the division was disbanded in 2012, Tagg decided along with his team – AKA his family – that they would take a year off.

In 2014, when Tagg got back behind the wheel, he traveled with the American Canadian Tour, competing with some of the toughest Late Model competitors in the northeast.

Fogleman, Armstrong, and Joey “Pole” Among Contenders for PASS Return to Orange County

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 22) – Any time the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) National Championship Super Late Models come to Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC, there is always excitement.  The high-banked, 3/8 mile speedway has hosted some of the series most competitive races since 2006 and returns to the schedule for the first time in nearly three years this Saturday night.  It is a favorite stop for both fans and drivers alike when the south’s original Super Late Model series comes to town.  But for 16-year-old PASS Super Late Model driver Tate Fogleman, there might just be a little extra incentive to perform well in the 10th Running of the Orange Blossom Special.

Being from nearby Durham, NC, Fogleman grew up in the shadows of Orange County Speedway.  Both his grandfather, Kent, and father, two-time PASS National Champion, Jay Fogleman, have raced and won at Orange County.  So naturally, anytime the Foglemans race there, it attracts a lot of family and friends.

“I’m very excited to get home to Orange County,” said Tate Fogleman, driver of the Solid Rock Carriers Ford #8.  “I love the atmosphere of the track when PASS goes there.  Orange County is also one of my favorite tracks to drive on, so I can’t wait to get back there.”

Salem, NH – With just over a month until the Formula Race Promotions season opener at VIRginia International Raceway, Series registrations for the Atlantic, F2000 and F1600 seasons for drivers are well ahead of 2016 levels.

Utilizing a new registration system from USAC Racing in addition to a completely revamped schedule, and lower entry fee costs for F2000 and F1600, more drivers are securing their car numbers and committing to both the full season and select weekends.

“A better registration system and a much better schedule with more variety and more spectator weekends, with our usual amount of track time, are contributing to increased interest levels heading into the 2017 racing season,” commented FRP co-owners Al Guibord and Robert Wright.

Vermont’s Bear Ridge Speedway Celebrates 50 Consecutive Years of Racing in 2017

CONCORD, N.C. – MARCH 22, 2017 – Bear Ridge Speedway will celebrate its 50th anniversary of racing in 2017, but the accomplishment is even more impressive when you dig deeper into the story of the tight quarter-mile track in rural Vermont.
For all 50 seasons, the track has been under the ownership or operation of an Elms family member. The track was initially the vision of George Barber while Charles V Elms Sr. was a part of his opening day operations team and eventually purchased the track from Barber in 1972.
Charles Elms Sr. continued in his role as the owner and operator of Bear Ridge until 1990 when he sold the track to his son, CV “Butch” Elms III. In 2006, April May Preston joined the track as a co-owner and the facility has continued to grow ever since.

Eckes Focused on Dominion After Solid Finish at The Rattler

GREENVILLE, NY — Christian Eckes appeared to be one of the cars to beat Sunday at the 41st annual Rattler 250. The 16-year-old driver put his Fury Race Cars No. 15 near the top of the charts throughout the weekend, however brake issues prohibited him for contending for the win during the 250-lap race. Despite the issue, the New York driver held on for a sixth-place finish.

“The weekend started off well, but definitely did not end how we intended it to,” Eckes said. “We were so fast in the beginning but unfortunately we had zero brakes in the race. We believe it was an issue with the master cylinder but we had such a great race car.”

Eckes qualified his No. 15 machine in the fourth position and quickly made his way into the second spot just a handful of laps into The Rattler 250. He slid back to fifth position at the lap 100 break and from there worked hard to stay in the top 10 for the final 150 laps. A late charge from ninth to sixth over the final 45 laps gave Eckes a solid finish.

China Grove, N.C. (March 20, 2017) — Brandon Gdovic joined DAC Motorsports to compete in the 65th annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring March 18th, 2017 at Sebring International Raceway. Hot off the heels of a successful Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the DAC Motorsports team felt confident heading into the second stop of IMSA’s Tequila Patron Endurance Series. Although the DAC Motorsports team had to overcome handling issues in their Lamborghini Huracan GT3, they finished the entirety of the event in the 17th position.

The DAC entry was one of six Huracan GT3s entered for the race, with Lamborghini being the most represented manufacturer in the GTD class of the race. The No. 18 carried the emblems of team partners La Champagnerie, Sonic Tools, DAC Aviation, ComServe Wireless, Windstax and Holand Automotive. The team spent Thursday and Friday’s four scheduled practice sessions trying various setups and attempting to diagnose the handling issues. The issue persisted throughout qualifying and Gdovic posted laps fast enough for a 20th-place starting position.

The green flag for the 12 Hours of Sebring waved at 10:40 a.m. ET with Gdovic behind the wheel first. Each driver would compete in rotating two-hour session which saw Gdovic swap in for his second and third stints at 2:40 p.m. and 6:40 p.m., respectively. Unfortunately, it was difficult for even the most-seasoned road-course ringers to overcome the handling of the car. But the DAC Motorsports team persisted and were able to tick off a number of competitors en route to a 17th-place finish.

Abreu looks for more Stockton glory at the FVP Western Spring Shootout

STOCKTON, CA – March 20, 2017 – In the brief history of the Stockton Dirt Track no driver has taken the checkered flag more than Rutherford’s Rico Abreu, who will look to add more at the FVP Western Spring Shootout this Friday & Saturday, March 24 & 25.

In his career, Abreu has captured five victories with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, including the FVP Western Spring Shootout finale in 2015. Along with that night, he has raced to three other career wins at the Stockton Dirt Track, a venue that opened in the 2013 season. This weekend will also be the first World of Outlaws test of the track since modifications were completed to bring the front stretch closer to the grandstands at the end of last year.

“We’ve had a lot of success at the Stockton Dirt Track and look forward to competing there this week,” said Abreu. “It’s never easy running against the World of Outlaws, but I definitely have a lot of confidence with the speed we had in Las Vegas, as well as Tulare last weekend. Paul Silva always gives me a great car no matter where we go, but we’ve seemed to be especially strong at Stockton. We’re excited to see all the fans and hope they will pack the grandstands like usual this weekend.”
