Jeff Baral Gets Boost with New Sponsors at Stafford

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford SK Modified® driver and Southington native Jeff Baral will welcome two new sponsors to his #18 team for the 2017 season.  Baral is hopeful that the new sponsorship will yield a return to the top-5 of the SK Modified® points standings this season.

“We’ve always had good equipment and good help but we’ve never had the financial backing to show what we can do,” said Baral.  “With the help of 2 new sponsors, Island Coffee Company and TR Landworks along with returning sponsors, The Wheel Shop, Morrison and Johnson, and Arbitell Convenience Stores, I definitely think we’re going to have a good boost.  I have some really great crew guys with Jamie, Barry, Jeff, Scott, Glen, Lou and with Jimmy Fuller helping us out on the chassis and Mike Pettit on the motor, I think we can have a great year.”

Island Coffee is based out of Long Island with many distribution outlets throughout the northeast and they have been in business since 1977.  Island Coffee is sold to the majority of your local convenience stores so be sure to grab an Island Coffee every Friday night on your way to and from Stafford Motor Speedway.  TR Landworks is based in East Hartland and they specialize in clearing multiple acres of land for wildlife habitat; creation, maintenance, and reclamation.  They are also well suited for farm land restoration and all forms of land maintenance and clearing.

Baral made a full-time return to the SK Modified® division last year after not racing a full season since 2010.  Baral has 7 SK Modified® feature wins in his Stafford career between 2003 and 2006. Those were also the best seasons of Baral’s career as he finished 6th and 7th in the points in 2004, 2005, and 2006.  Despite having never cracked the top-5 in the final points standings in a season, Baral says that is his goal for the 2017 season along with getting his #18 back into NAPA Victory Lane for the first time since June 9, 2006.

“Honestly I’d like to win a couple of races this year and compete for a top-5 spot in the points standings,” said Baral.  “We’d also like to be more consistent with our race finishes.  With consistency comes points and race wins.  Going back in my career, we had a stretch where we weren’t worse than 7th in points and with Jimmy Fuller helping us out this season, I think the car is better now than it ever was then.  A championship would obviously be great.”

Last season saw Baral and the #18 team miss three races but they still finished well enough in their starts to end the season in 14th place in the standings.  While the season was full of ups and downs for Baral, he recorded three top-10 finishes in his final 5 starts, including a season-best second place finish in the final Friday night race of the year.  This stretch of races gives Baral confidence that he can match his pre-season goals of finishing in the top-5 in the points as well as getting back to NAPA Victory Lane.

“The car was always really good last year, we just didn’t always have the results to show,” said Baral.  “We’ve gone through the car and rebuilt everything and freshened up the motor so I think we can have a fast car every week this season.  We just need to have a little luck on our side.  We’ve been at Stafford long enough to know all the ups and downs.  Racing is such that there’s usually a lot more downs than ups but we’re hoping that we can have a season with more highs than lows this year.

Stafford Springs, CT — On Time Accounting (OTA) of Feeding Hills, MA, will return to the Stafford Speedway contingency program and present a $100 bonus for each 2nd place SK Light feature finisher.  With 22 races on the schedule, On Time Accounting will contribute a bonus of $2,200 to SK Light drivers during the 2017 season.  When combined with contingency awards from Dunleavy’s Truck & Trailer Repair, Maybury Material Handling, Olson Apartments, and New England Racing Fuel, SK Light drivers will be racing for over $9,000 in bonus and $2,200 in fuel certificates during the 2017 season.

“We’re excited to be back at Stafford for another season,” said Mike Margiotta, president of On Time Accounting.  “This season we’re also doing some sponsorship with David Arute on his #75 SK Light car, so we’re looking forward to another exciting season of racing and having a fun year of helping the teams out.  We love being able to help teams out, being at the track, and being among the teams and the drivers.  I don’t think there’s any other sport that can match the excitement, commitment, and comradery of motorsports.”

In addition to their contingency program bonus, On Time Accounting is continuing their “Racing Bucks” program which is available to all Stafford Motor Speedway teams.  All a team has to do is refer a client to On-Time Accounting, and as long as that client remains with OTA, OTA will send the team a check for 10% of the monthly billing for the referred client once OTA has been paid with no cost to the race team.

Paul Arute Moving up to Stafford Late Model Division

Stafford Springs, CT — After 3 years of full-time Limited Late Model competition, Tolland native Paul Arute will move to the Late Model Division for the 2017 season at Stafford Motor Speedway.  Arute notched a division high 5 wins and 12 top 5’s during his 2016 campaign in the Limited Late Model division.

“We’ve come a long way since my first season in the Limited Late Models,” explained Arute.  “I can’t thank my crew and all my supporters enough, a lot of people were instrumental to our success in 2016.  My crew chief Steve Johnson has stuck with me over the last 3 years and last year we hit our stride and parked it in victory lane 5 times.”

Arute is making the jump to a revitalized Late Model division in 2017.  Historically the Late Model division has been highly competitive and the 2017 season will be no different with a strong group of returning drivers and a few new drivers that will surely make an impact.

Snake Bit Pollard Looks for Redemption at The Rattler

SENOIA, Ga. — Bubba Pollard has his wheelman hands ready for double duty at South Alabama Speedway this weekend. The Senoia, Georgia driver will compete in both the Baby Rattler on Saturday and The Rattler 250 on Sunday.

“I’ve ran both of these races there the past few years, so I’ve gotten pretty used to jumping back and forth between the two cars,” Pollard said. “It’s a fun weekend, especially when you are successful, and definitely a race I look forward to every year.”

Success is something Pollard has seen plenty of on the Pro Late Model side, winning the event back to back in 2014 and 2015. Pollard almost solidified the hat trick one year ago, but was involved in a wreck while leading coming to the checkered flag.

Jacklyn’s Word on the Street: St. Patty’s Day Edition

MOORESVILLE, NC 3.17.17 – The season opener at Concord Speedway was full of hayrides and cotton candy, no wait, that’s not right. It was full of late model rides and hot coffee. The weather was cold but the drivers were on full heat as they started off the 2017 race season.  Here’s the beat on the street; from what my sources are saying…

CARS Super Late Model Tour powered by VP Race Fuels

Brandon Setzer emerged as the fans pick this year for the CARS Tour Super Late Model Championship as he is expected to run the entire schedule this season. Setzer also came onboard with Romeo Guest Construction as his primary sponsor.

Raphael Lessard was a popular face with unique accented interviews in Edelbrock Victory Lane last year. Lessard was absent from Concord and left fans searching for his signature red and white paint scheme. He is scheduled to race 5-7 different CARS Tour events with Dominion Raceway being his first of the season as well as debuting in the ARCA Series on April 8th. Shhhhh… don’t tell anyone. ;)

Christian Eckes didn’t bring any snowballs to Concord this past weekend (what’s up with that Eckes?) even though he won the Snowball Derby Championship in the off-season. However, he did finish 2nd in the Super Late Model feature on Saturday and is expected to run 5-7 CARS Tour events this season as well as 9 ARCA Races with Venturini Motorsports.
