NASCAR Ends New London-Waterford Speedbowl Sanction

NASCAR has dropped sanctioning agreements with New London-Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race on July 22 has been canceled.

The series has made 22 visits to the 1/3-mile oval since its inaugural season in 1985. Ron Silk won the most recent race in 2016.

The track’s weekly Saturday program was sanctioned by the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series since 2000. Reigning champion Keith Rocco has found great success in the SK Modifieds with 6 championships. The decision comes after track owner Bruce Bemer was arrested March 28. He has been charged with patronizing a trafficked person. The Glastonbury, CT resident purchased the track in October 2014 at auction.

Lee USA Opens ACT’s 2017 Season

Waterbury, VT – The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) is set to open its 26th season of ACT Late Model racing, and its 34th season of late model racing at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 23 with the annual New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150, which was postponed due to weather from its originally scheduled early April date.  As in years past, the 2017 opener will give teams and fans a preview of competitors to watch during the coming race season.

The fast 1/3 mile at Lee has always offered an exciting kick-off to the season, with the previous 14 ACT Late Model Tour events serving up 13 different winners, with the back-to-back wins of multi-time Series Champion Brian Hoar in 2011 and 2012 standing as the only repeat winner.  In 2016, Scott Payea, driving for the familiar RPM team (which was part of the Brian Hoar successes), stood on top of the podium after a hiatus of several years from racing.

Looking to mirror RPM’s repeat successes in 2011 & 2012, Scott Payea is excited to return to Lee: “There’s always a special excitement to the first event of any race season, and I would love to bring home back-to-back victories at Lee for my car owner, Rick, and get my season started off on the right foot!”.  A popular man in the pits, the soft-spoken Payea holds nothing back behind the wheel, and after finishing in the runner-up spot in the 2016 ACT standings, is prepared to elevate the RPM team’s final standing just a bit.  But, with the return of Waterford, CT’s Dillon Moltz in the #5CT, along with Barre, VT’s Jimmy Hebert (Williamstown, VT)and Scott Dragon (Milton, VT), there is no question the competition will be fierce.  “Richard Green and our team are excited to get back on the track, we are looking forward to giving the ACT Tour a try, and Lee is a great place to kick off the season,” said an excited Dragon.

Cornett-Ching Set to Make Icebreaker Debut at Thompson Speedway

April 5, 2017, Denver NC – The opening race of the Pro All-Star Series North was set to take place last weekend, but instead the race track was blasted with 8″ of snow. Appropriately named, the annual Icebreaker race was rescheduled for this weekend at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut. Race 101 will field a car for Sarah to compete in the National Championship race this Sunday.

The team had to change a few things about their car to meet the rules for the Icebreaker said Sarah.

“We had to change around the exhaust and run it out underneath the car instead of out the side along with installing a muffler. The track also mandates a 2 barrel carburetor instead of the 4 barrel we usually use.”

Gearing Up for the Great Plains

Series will head to Kansas and Oklahoma in April

CONCORD, NC- April 6, 2017- The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series heads to the Great Plains to top off the month of April. The first stop will be on April 28 at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS, followed by Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, OK on April 29.

Lakeside Speedway

Lakeside Speedway is located one hour and 45 minutes from full-time Outlaw Chase Junghans’ hometown of Manhattan, KS. This is the first time the series has visited Kansas since Junghans joined the Series in 2014.

“This race will definitely be fun for sure,” said Junghans. “Anytime you only have to travel an hour-and-a-half to go to an Outlaw race it is definitely exciting. I’ve raced there plenty of times, and that definitely helps your confidence headed into the race and gives you hope of running good. Out here in the Midwest a lot of our tracks are bigger half-miles, and that’s what I’m used to running on. I I don’t know if that means I have an advantage, but I’m used to racing on that kind of track and have a better idea of what I have to do to my car.”
