Shane has won the past two Billy Clanton Classic events and looks to repeat his success this year when the Outlaws take the Senoia Raceway for the first time.

Coughlin Ready to Duel with a Monster in Delaware

DELAWARE, OHIO – Throughout history there have been many tales told about normal men facing off against giant beasts and being victorious. On Friday night (June 2), Cody Coughlin has a chance to write his own tale about the time he faced the Monster and conquered it.  That’s when the 21 year-old will take on the Monster Mile of Dover International (DE) Speedway while driving the No. 13 JEGS.com / RIDE TV Toyota Tundra for ThorSport Racing in the Bar Harbor 200 presented by Sea Watch Int’l for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

This weekend’s trip to Dover, the capital of Delaware, the first state in the Union, will be Coughlin’s first to the fast, one-mile concrete oval.

“I’ve never been to Dover, but I’ve heard it’s a fun place once you get the hang of it. It seems like a different track for sure, but I’ve done well on the high-banked short tracks like a Winchester.  Dover is definitely a faster one, so it’ll take a few laps to get used to it, but I’m up for the challenge.”

Christopher and Preece Headline Exit Realty Modified Touring Series Entries at Stafford

Stafford Springs, CT — The Exit Realty Modified Touring Series will make its Stafford Speedway debut this Friday, June 2nd with a strong contingent of top modified talent lining the roster.  Headlining the current entry-list are two of the top modified drivers in the region, Ted Christopher, and 2017 NAPA Spring Sizzler® Champion Ryan Preece.

Ted Christopher, the all-time winningest driver at Stafford with 126 career victories including 104 SK Modified® wins, will pilot his familiar Brady #00 in Friday’s 125 lap feature. Christopher scored his most recent open modified victory behind the wheel of that same car in the June 2016 Stafford Valenti Modified Series 80.  During his last time out with the Brady team, Christopher scored a top 5 at the NAPA Spring Sizzler® and was a contender for another victory in the closing laps.

“It’s all different, different drivers you’re racing against and new tires,” explained Christopher. “We know the car goes good but it’s all a matter of how the tires are going to work.  We’re bringing the same car back that we won with last year with a spec engine in it and we’ll have pit stops that we can make if the car isn’t handling like we want, so I think we should be pretty good for the race.”

Brett Hearn Blasts Field for 2nd Valley Win of 2017

Last week, Brett Hearn indicated that he and Madsen Motorsports needed to up their game. They most definitely came to play on Saturday night.

Mike King inherited the pole after Rob Pitcher voluntarily dropped to the rear and led early. However, Andy Bachetti was hot on King’s heels. On lap 5, Bachetti was able to sneak past to take the lead.

At the same time, Hearn was on the move. By the time Bachetti took the lead, Hearn was already up to fifth. From there, it was a methodical move to the front. He dispatched of Brian Berger for fourth. Then it was Eddie Marshall (driving Kolby Schroder’s backup car) who was dropped like a bad habit.

Edwards Crowned King, Hanson Makes History at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Packed house watches Vermont dirt track opener

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – It’s sometimes better to be lucky than good, but Chad Edwards found out that it’s even better to be both at The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, May 28.  A big crowd got its money’s worth at the action-packed event and saw Edwards survive a rough race to win the “Green Mountain State Clash” for the King of Dirt Series Sportsman Modifieds and Lacey Hanson make history as the first woman in Vermont racing history to win a Sprint Car race.  Joey Trudeau and Jason Porter were also in victory lane during the event.

Edwards, of Mayfield, N.Y., was one of a track record 42 Sportsman Modified drivers on hand for the Devil’s Bowl dirt racing season opener, which also kicked off the traveling King of Dirt Series and the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Eastern Region.  Aggressive driving and a soft track surface played a factor in the main event, leading to rash of caution flags late in the going, but the racing was competitive throughout the distance.

Cody Bleau of Defreestville, N.Y., led the opening 20 laps from the pole position, collecting $400 in lap leader bonus money in the process.  Kenny Tremont Jr. took command at lap 21 and was challenged by Scott Duell and Rocky Warner, and that trio battled in close quarters for several laps.

“What They’re Saying” from the 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500

SIMON PAGENAUD (No. 1 Menards Team Penske Chevrolet): “It wasn’t the finish we wanted today for the Menards Chevrolet team. But for the big picture, it was a decent day. We’re still in that top group in points as we head to Detroit. That’s a place that suits us pretty well. The (Indianapolis) 500 remains a goal and we’ll take another shot at it next year.”

JOSEF NEWGARDEN (No. 2 hum by Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet): “It was an OK day. We just got caught up in that wreck there at the end. That hurt us. When we were up front we were good. We seemed to keep racing ourselves toward the front of the field. Then we would just get dropped back by a couple of issues. If we would have been up front the whole time, I think we could have finished in the top five. We performed really well today, things just didn’t go out way.”

HELIO CASTRONEVES (No. 3 Shell Fuel Rewards Team Penske Chevrolet): “The Shell Fuel Rewards Chevy team almost got it done today. It was so close. We’ve got to keep going. I take my hat off to Takuma (Sato) for having a strong car today. He really seemed to be getting better as the race went along. I say, ‘great job’ to my guys. They worked their tails off. We saw it all today. We were in the back and we led some laps. We avoided disaster and we almost got number four.”

Sato Becomes First Japanese Winner of Indy 500 in Thrilling Finish

INDIANAPOLIS (Sunday, May 28, 2017) – Many wondered if an experienced Formula One driver competing for Andretti Autosport could win the 101st Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil. It happened, just not by the one some expected.

Takuma Sato capped off another thrilling Indianapolis 500 that featured a record number of drivers leading the race. The driver of the No. 26 Andretti Autosport Honda edged three-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves to the finish line by 0.2011 of a second to become the first Japanese winner of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

101st INDIANAPOLIS 500: Box score

Sato passed Castroneves for the lead on Lap 195 – the last of 35 lead changes in the 200-lap race on the historic 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval and the seventh straight year that the decisive pass for the Indy 500 lead occurred in the last six laps. Therrien Stands Tall in Dominating Memorial Day Classic Win

Barre, Vt. –- Hinesburg’s Bobby Therrien took the lead early and never looked back en route to capturing the 55th Memorial Day Classic presented by Mekkelsen RV Sales & Rental at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, May 28. It was the first Thunder Road Late Model victory for the multi-time American-Canadian Tour (ACT) winner.

After previously winning his heat, Therrien sliced through the field from the 10th starting position, grabbing the top spot from pole sitter Brooks Clark on a lap-16 restart. The former Flying Tiger champion held off a host of challengers during a series of yellows, then walked away from the field during an extended green flag run following a competition caution on lap 60.

However, second-place runner Phil Scott blew a tire and smacked the front stretch wall with three laps to go, setting up a sprint to the finish. Therrien held on for the final laps to take the win.
