Bromante Contends for Victory at New Smyrna Before Unplanned Exit

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL (Oct. 9, 2017) – Giovanni Bromante made his first start for Anthony Campi Racing on Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida and started the new relationship off with a bang. Bromante started from the pole and contended for the win until a late-race mishap sidelined him while running in the top three.
Bromante and the Anthony Campi Racing team began to get acquainted with one another for the first time on Thursday during a seat fitting and subsequently on Friday during a private test. Quickly, Giovanni got up to speed at the high-banked half mile and was running times on part with his teammate who had won the previous race at New Smyrna.
Following Saturday night’s qualifying procedure, Bromante was third fastest by merely a few hundredths of a second. A random, three-position invert placed Bromante on the pole for the race, a starting position he took full advantage of from the drop of the green flag. The teenager took the green flag from inside the front row and cleared his closest competitor before the field exited turn two.

The top three continued to swap the lead, and paint, during the 50-lap contest. All totaled, Bromante led nearly a third of the race before a late-race restart facilitated substantial, heavy contact from another competitor which caused Bromante’s fender to cave into the tire. Billowing smoke, the New York driver felt the car out to see if it would go away, but pulled into the pits with only a handful of laps to go once it was determined the damage was too much to safely continue.
“It was such a good weekend,” Bromante said after the race. “I fit in with the team so well, it was like I’ve known them for years. When we made the first few laps, I knew it was going to be a good weekend. The car was nearly perfect all race, I just got caught up with a guy when we were racing hard and knocked the toe out on the car. Even then, we were still able to race, but later we made contact again and it ultimately cut the tire from the damage, but I’m still proud of the commitment and the entire effort the ACR guys gave me this weekend. That’s the kind of weekend you dream about, having everything in place for an opportunity to win races.”
Though no other races are currently scheduled for Bromante in 2017, he is working on adding additional events in the final two months of the season before announcing his 2018 plans and schedule.
