Not surprisingly, Plott is ready to head back to the Easley, SC race track for the 2018 Meltdown to defend his crown against a stout field of competitors.
“I’m definitely excited.  We are putting the car where it was last year, so I hope it’s as good as it was last year.  We’ll just have to wait and see,” Plott said.  “It’s the same car, the one my brother Kason also drove at the (Snowball) Derby.”

Pritchett Joins Army Racing Lineup

Champion Top Fuel Drivers Schumacher, Brown Welcome DSR Teammate to the U.S. Army Fold for 2018 NHRA Campaign

BROWNSBURG, Indiana (Jan. 30, 2018) – U.S. Army Racing has bolstered its 11-time championship-winning Top Fuel driver lineup of Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher and Antron Brown with the addition of fellow Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) driver Leah Pritchett and her team for the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season, it was announced Tuesday in preparation for this weekend’s annual NHRA Nitro Preseason Test Days at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park on the outskirts of Phoenix.

Pritchett and the DSR Mopar/U.S. Army Dragster team will join eight-time champion Schumacher and three-time champion Brown when the Army Racing heritage marches into its 18th full season of NHRA competition since “The Sarge” debuted the U.S. Army colors on his DSR Dragster at the prestigious U.S. Nationals just outside Indianapolis in September 2000.

“Throughout the U.S. Army’s 17-year partnership with DSR, the Army colors have exhibited dominance and resilience with one of the most elite organizations in all of motorsports,” said Elizabeth Wilson, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for Marketing and Director of the Army Marketing Research Group. “Tony Schumacher, Antron Brown and their respective teams have been the ultimate representatives of our more than 1 million U.S. Army Soldiers around the world. And today, we are extremely proud to welcome Leah Pritchett to the Army Racing family and look forward to the addition of a third championship-contending driver and team to the lineup.”

In addition to representing the U.S. Army on the racetrack during the 24-event NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series campaign, Pritchett will join Schumacher and Brown in the Army’s initiatives away from the track, including local high school programs at each track on the circuit, the Army’s Centers of Influence (COI) and the NHRA’s Youth & Education Services (YES) events during race weekends throughout the season.

“This is one of the most prestigious partnerships of my career and for our team, and we look forward to joining this very successful Army duo of Tony and Antron, creating the U.S. Army trifecta,” said Pritchett, who is coming off a powerful 2017 season that included four event titles in six final-round appearances. “This is a tremendous opportunity for us, to represent the Soldiers who serve and enable us to do what we love. Tony and Antron have had an insurmountable impact on my life. I am humbled and honored to join them in representing the U.S. Army, and our team is inspired not just rise to our expectations for next year, but to elevate our training even further. On a personal note, Tony was my first favorite driver in the NHRA. I met him even before the U.S. Army partnership began for him and watched him from the other side of the ropes. I’ve always seen Antron as a role model since his switch to Top Fuel. As every year becomes slightly more surreal, this is yet another new chapter, one that carries the prestige and the honor with my two teammates of representing Soldiers around the world. Our goal is to win on the track for my team, win for the Army in the communities we visit, and represent the U.S. Army with our entire heart and soul.”

In her first full season with DSR, Pritchett kicked off 2017 with a victory at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California, her first of four event titles and six final-round appearances on the year. She added six No. 1 qualifying efforts and also set national elapsed time records twice – 3.658 seconds in February at Phoenix, and 3.640 seconds in August at Brainerd, Minnesota. She finished fifth in the final Top Fuel standings after qualifying for the Countdown to the Championship playoffs for the second year in a row.

Schumacher and Brown entered the 2017 season having combined for four Top Fuel world titles in the previous five years. Schumacher and his U.S. Army Dragster for DSR scored an early season victory at the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida among his four final-round appearances to up his record total of event titles to 83. He added four No. 1 qualifying efforts to raise his record total in that category to 84. Brown and his Matco Tools/U.S. Army Dragster for DSR brought home four event titles among his 10 final-round appearances and two No. 1 qualifying efforts during his 2017 campaign.

“Leah has been a great DSR teammate and now she is going to strengthen our Army Racing lineup overall,” said Schumacher, who finished eighth in the final standings this season. “She and that team proved their speed right out of the box and she showed up at the track each weekend as one of the cars to beat. Off the track, she brings great marketing capabilities as one of the more colorful spokespeople in this sport. It’s a win-win for everybody involved.”

“I think it’s awesome to have Leah join Tony and me under the Army banner because she has the attitude and the heart of an Army Soldier,” said Brown, who was fourth in the 2017 standings after his back-to-back championships in 2015 and 2016. “She’s resilient, she has the work ethic and the desire – all the Army traits to be able to go out there and do battle on the track. She never quits, never gives up, never says, ‘I can’t,’ just, ‘I will.’ I’m looking forward to having another great Army teammate go out there and do battle with out there.”

2019 Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Ticket Information Now Available

TULSA, Okla. (January 29, 2018) Mark your calendars! Ticket renewals and new ticket orders for the 33rd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire begin on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, and run through Friday, April 27, 2018.

Announced on the opening day of the 2018 edition of the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, the 33rd annual event will expand to six nights of racing with next year’s dates scheduled for January 14-19, 2019.

Explained by Chili Bowl co-founder, Emmett Hahn, the reason for the change is to accommodate the over 300 drivers and fans who attend, “We’ve been making small changes over the past few years with speeding up the show. We moved the start times up to 4:00 P.M. and we talked about moving it again, but that puts our local fans out during the week, and, it’s hard for a lot of our help to get the time off of work,” explained Hahn. “With the Monday qualifying night, we are able to get the nights back around 60 drivers a night where we can be done around 10:00 P.M. instead of almost midnight. That extra time makes a big difference where the fans can visit with the drivers and get a bite to eat before they head for the Hotel, and, it keeps us in good graces with our neighbors who have kids who are in school.”

Bob Potter & Kris Fluckiger Teaming Up for Another Season in Stafford Speedway’s 2-Seater Modified

Stafford Springs, CT — With another season ready to kick off at Stafford Speedway, 5-time SK Modified® champion and 24-time feature winner Bob Potter is ready for another season of giving race fans the ride of a lifetime behind the wheel of the Stafford Speedway 2-Seater Modified.  Potter will once again give fans a ride around the Connecticut half-mile facility at speed in one of four packages.

“This year will be the 7th season of taking people around the track and I still have lots of fun,” said Potter.  “I’m grateful to Mark and Lisa Arute to give me the opportunity to still be behind the wheel and get around the racetrack.  I’ve been able to meet so many great people over the years and the people you take along for the rides love you to death after its over.  A lot of the folks I take out for a ride don’t think you really go that fast but that all changes once they’ve taken a ride.  Another thing that surprises a lot of the riders is the g forces you feel in the seat.  Being able to give someone the experience of what racing is really all about and seeing the smiles on their faces once they get out of the car, it’s a great feeling and it really makes me feel great in my heart.”

One thing for sure is that no matter what ride along package race fans choose, when they ride with Potter it is the closest thing a race fan can get to the truest experience that driving a modified has to offer.

Michael Wray Looking to Rebound and Challenge for 2018 Late Model Championship at Stafford Speedway

Stafford Springs, CT — For many racers, a season where they scored one win, ten top-5 and fifteen top-10 finishes to go along with a 7th place finish in the points standings would be considered a pretty good season.  But for Northford, CT native Michael Wray, driver of the #42 DMW Graphics Chevrolet, those season numbers registered as a disappointment.  Wray was coming off a 2016 season that saw him register two wins, fourteen top-5, and seventeen top-10 finishes, with ten of his fourteen top-5 finishes being podium finishes.  Wray is looking forward to getting back on the track in 2018 and returning to his 2016 ways.

“I think we were a little disappointed with how last season went for us,” said Wray.  “Coming off our 2016 season, we were on the podium something like 10 out of 17 races and we finished second in points.  Last year was still a good year but it wasn’t quite as good.  For 2018 we’ve went through some stuff and we’ve pretty much rebuilt the car from scratch so I feel like we’re in a much better position than we were last year and I’m excited, I think we’re going to have a good season.”

Although the 2017 season might not have been up to Wray’s standards, the season got off to a promising start.  Wray posted top-5 finishes, including his lone win of the season, in each of the first 7 races of the season.  Wray’s good start to the year saw him sitting second in the points standings, only 4 points behind Glen Reen.  But then Wray and the #42 team ran into some struggles with their car and the next four races saw them fall from second down to fourth with only one top-5 finish in that 4-race stretch.
