The asphalt Modified driver is adjusting to the tight confines of historic Boardwalk Hall.

“This is nothing like anything you could really get any experience from other than just coming here and turning some laps. The way the car handles, the way you have to drive the car, the racing attitude that other drivers have. It’s just a whole different world.”

Location: Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Raceway

Winner: Christopher Bell of Keith Kunz Racing

Results: Donny Schatz – Started 15th, Finished 10th in B-Main/completed 20 of 20 laps

It’s been more than 20 years since eight-time World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz earned the Outlaws’ coveted Rookie of the Year honors. Last week, the Fargo, North Dakota racer was a rookie in the 31st annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire held at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Raceway. Following his seventh-place finish aboard the No. 15 Arctic Cat-sponsored entry of Clauson-Marshall Racing (CMR) in Saturday night’s first B-Feature, Schatz was recognized as the event’s top rookie in the field of 365 entries.

“What an incredible opportunity,” Schatz said. “We came here with high expectations. We wanted to make the show first and foremost and, unfortunately, we came up one spot short. Racing in the Chili Bowl was something I wasn’t sure I’d ever do, but I’m thrilled I had the chance to do it. I’m very thankful to all of the people who made this possible – The Clauson Family, Richard and Jennifer Marshall, as well as, Arctic Cat. Being part of what Bryan had envisioned as his ‘Dream Team’ is an honor that I’ll always cherish. This CMR team is filled with incredible individuals. I’ve met some people I know I’ll call friends from now on. To fulfill a dream of Bryan’s and to hear how important having me part of his team from his parents was truly a blessing.”

Christopher Bell Wins the 2017 Chili Bowl Nationals

TULSA, Okla. (January 14, 2017) In 1994, Andy Hillenburg became the first Oklahoman to win the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire. Twenty-two years later, the Golden Driller has made its way home as Norman, Oklahoma’s Christopher Bell made his mark in the history books as the champion of the 31st annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by
General Tire.

Earning the victory for Keith Kunz Motorsports, Bell’s win puts Keith with six overall Chili Bowl titles as a car owner since 1994 when Hillenburg wheeled the Keith and Rusty Kunz owned entry to Victory Lane.

“I’m speechless right now. I’ve been coming to this building for so long trying to win one of these things, and I thought I was really close to won at the Shootout a couple weeks ago, but we had a lot of bad luck but I’ll trade all that bad luck in for this Driller right here. This means the world to me,” commented a very emotional Christopher Bell in Victory Lane. “Most of my bad luck in this race has been self-inflicted. You know, I’ve been in this position before. I think this is the third time I’ve started on the front row and I would run into trouble because I was pushing too hard. Every time I’ve come here, it’s been attack, attach, attack and in this 55 lap race, you don’t need to do that so I just ran as hard as I needed too.”

Justin Grant Unstoppable On 2017 Chili Bowl Vacuworx Qualifying Night

TULSA, Okla. (January 13, 2017) The final day of qualifying for the 31st annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire was one filled with emotion as California’s Justin Grant found Victory Lane for the first time in Preliminary Night competition; and did it in a Clauson-Marshall mount one year after Bryan Clauson took his final checkered flag atop the clay of the Tulsa Expo Raceway.

“No, I can’t even try,” said Grant of putting the win into words. “But I’m not going to say I’m carrying on (Bryan Clauson’s) legacy at all. That would be not even a chance. He was incredible. He was such a big deal. I guess we didn’t really appreciate how big of a deal he was until we lost him. It’s incredible to see how many people are behind him and behind that. It is a lot pressure.”
Making three first-time winners in four nights of racing, Grant was the class of the field with all 25 laps of the Vacuworx Night feature credited to his torrid pace.
Caution following the first lap that saw Ace McCarthy spinning and collecting Holly Shelton, Grant was stalked by fellow Californian, Ronnie Gardner. Keeping pace with the No. 39BC, the pair broke away from the running order.

Jankowiak Set to Take On Atlantic City Indoor Stars with New Car

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 12, 2017 . . . While most of the Indoor Auto Racing Series Presented By VP Fuels stars head into Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on January 27-28, 2017 with race proven equipment, crowd favorite Andy Jankowiak’s quest for a fourth career Indoor Auto Racing Series victory hinges on the successful completion of an all-new Three Quarter (TQ) Midget of his own design.

“We’ll be there,” Jankowiak reassured Len Sammons Motorsports Productions (LSMP) Series officials earlier this week.  “This is a much bigger challenge than I thought it would ever be, but the car I’m building is built to run fast.”

Jankowiak has enlisted his Modified car owner and fabrication specialist Rick Kluth to bend the tubing, fabricate the brackets and mounting points for the new car.

Travis Berryhill Comes Up Aces In Hard Rock Casino Qualifying Night

TULSA, Okla. (January 11, 2017) Adding to the list of first-time winners at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, California’s Travis Berryhill solidified his spot in Saturday’s championship feature event with a win in Wednesday’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tulsa Qualifying Night at the 31st annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.

The 42nd different preliminary night winner in Chili Bowl history, Berryhill was chased to the line by fellow Californians, Jake Swanson and Colby Copeland with all three punching their ticket into Saturday’s A-Main for the first time.
“Man it takes a lot of pressure off,” chuckled the driver of the Manic Racing No. 31 when asked about being locked in.
“I’ve been in a B-Main here but I’ve never been in a Saturday night A-Main, so I’m pretty proud of that. I’ve been to in the ‘B’ and been close, and down to the Q main event, or whatever they are down to these days, and everywhere in between. So when you are down there in those things it’s a struggle and it’s stressful because you never know what you are going to get; especially the further you get down. I’ve been all the way through them. Last year we had a pretty poor qualifying night. We were fast but we just couldn’t put it all together. Then Saturday night we really bared down and threw some stuff at it that worked and we went through three or four main events last year. I carried a little bit of that confidence over to this year as well.”

Tyler Courtney Shines In 2017 Chili Bowl Opener

TULSA, Okla. (January 10, 2017) Indiana’s Tyler Courtney spent his morning unveiling the new #Driven2SaveLives program in honor of Bryan Clauson, and spent his evening driving like him as the pilot of the Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7BC raced to his first preliminary A-Feature win in Chili Bowl competition, and in doing so, locks into his first Chili Bowl Championship feature event.

While the win was a very emotional one for the entire Clauson-Marshall racing team, Tyler explained the win simply when asked to put it into words, “Two words. Parked It.”

“Honestly, I think I’m still in shock. I don’t think it’s really hit me yet. This is really cool with a new team, on the so called dream team that Bryan wanted to put together,” said Courtney. “Bryan [Clauson] was the guy that gave me the opportunity seven years ago. He’s a big part of my career and plus, I got to win my first USAC National sprint Car race over him this summer during Sprint Week. That’s something that I’ll always have with me.”

#Driven2SaveLives expands into dirt track racing in honor of Bryan Clauson

Campaign to promote organ, tissue and eye donation and transplantation
TULSA, Okla. – Indiana Donor Network announced today it is teaming up with Clauson-Marshall Racing to promote organ, tissue and eye donation and transplantation through Driven2SaveLives®. The campaign, which launched in 2016 around the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, is now expanding into dirt track racing with the hopes of registering fans to become donors in honor of the late Bryan Clauson.

The announcement came from the pits of Tulsa Expo Raceway, home to the sport’s biggest race of the year and Bryan’s favorite, the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. Bryan was a versatile and beloved race car driver, best known for his talent and achievements in dirt track open-wheel racing. Bryan died in August 2016 following an accident in the Belleville Midget Nationals in Kansas. As a registered donor, Bryan saved five lives as an organ donor and will enhance the lives of countless others as a tissue donor.

“While Bryan was known for his on-track persona, the decision he made to be an organ and tissue donor will forever be his legacy,” said Tim Clauson, Bryan’s father and co-owner of Clauson-Marshall Racing. “As a family, we are humbled to honor Bryan and his donation decision through Driven2SaveLives and the racing community we love. What donation did for our family – the light it provided us in our darkest hours – will stay with me for a lifetime. I will be forever grateful.”

The events served as a lead-in to tonight’s full slate of qualifying events leading up to the 40-lap TQ Midget feature, ‘The Battle Of Trenton’. Slingshots will be the support class.

Rudolph took the lead midway through the first race with a daring outside pass of race leader Earl Paules on a restart. Rudolph, a five time career Series feature winner, then led the rest of the way to outrun Zane Zeiner, Tommy Catalano and Paules.
