Global Rallycross Launches GRC Champions Cup

MJP Racing to Develop Next-level Rallycross Racing Vehicle to Launch New Series Platform Worldwide in 2019

Los Angeles, CA and Vienna, Austria (March 1, 2018) – Red Bull Global Rallycross (GRC) and MJP Racing (MJP) announced today their partnership to develop the GRC Platinum class, using a one-design rallycross vehicle for launch in 2019. The partnership will also produce a European GRC series (GRC Europe) that will complement the series in the Americas (Red Bull GRC Americas). Each series will hold between 8-12 events in the 2019 season, with the top finishers from each series competing in a final GRC Champions Cup event.

The new Platinum class vehicle will utilize a tube frame chassis that is lighter and more agile than current Supercars, with a higher displacement engine promising performance and endurance never before seen in top-tier rallycross racing. By standardizing the chassis and using an engine with significantly greater longevity, both initial purchase price and running costs will be substantially lower than today. The series is open to manufacturers and privateers alike. The result will be fiercely competitive racing at a fraction of current cost to teams and sponsors that will propel the sport of rallycross to more drivers and a broader audience.

“The introduction of the GRC Platinum class positions the sport of rallycross for the future by creating an affordable, yet better performing, next-level vehicle,” says Red Bull GRC CEO Colin Dyne. “Our goal is to open up the competitive landscape to make it more accessible for drivers and teams to participate and showcase their driving skills. Plus, the addition of the GRC Champions Cup will bring together the best drivers from both continents to crown the ‘King of Rallycross’.”

Scott Speed Wins Red Bull GRC Atlantic City

Despite getting shuffled into the middle of the pack at the start of the final, Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross driver Scott Speed simply would not be denied in the Round 8 Red Bull Global Rallycross Atlantic City Supercar final. The two-time defending Supercar champion, and last year’s Atlantic City winner, caught Subaru Rally Team USA’s Patrik Sandell by mid-race, got around him coming to the white flag, and held on for his third straight victory to unofficially reclaim the championship lead.

“The start went really well—I went into Turn 1 all by myself, but then the chaos ensued and we came out in like sixth!” Speed explained. “We had to put the gloves on and fight, and we ended shuffling up to third by the end of the first lap. Not to take the Joker was a bit of a gamble, because if someone behind us had taken it and held us up it wouldn’t have worked out, but fortunately no one did. I was able to use the Joker on (Sebastian Eriksson) and then track (Sandell) down. It all came down to the past two laps and making no mistakes, and it was a really hard-fought battle.”

Speed, incoming championship leader Tanner Foust, and Chris Atkinson started on the front row of the final, but only Speed would survive the first lap intact; an early spin for Foust would force him out of contention and lead to a last-place finish, while Atkinson’s left rear suspension was damaged heavily to force him off track early. Sandell, starting from the inside of the second row, seized the opportunity to stretch out what looked like an insurmountable lead over Sebastian Eriksson, with Speed lurking in third.

Red Bull Global Rallycross to Make Debut in Indianapolis July 8-9

Los Angeles, CA (April 4, 2017) — Red Bull Global Rallycross will make its long-awaited debut in Indianapolis on July 8-9 with a brand new event at Lucas Oil Raceway. Red Bull Global Rallycross Indianapolis will kick off the second half of the series’ 2017 schedule, hosting the seventh round of this year’s championship.

“For years, we have been asked when Red Bull GRC would come to Indianapolis, and we’re proud to make our debut in the city this July,” said Red Bull GRC CEO Colin Dyne. “Indianapolis has an incredible racing heritage, and many of our competitors call the area home. We are excited to bring a brand new form of racing to the city, we’re expecting an impressive first event in 2017.”

The Lucas Oil Raceway layout will see drivers start on the backstretch of the oval, charging through oval Turns 3 and 4 and hitting full speed in front of the grandstand. After continuing into oval Turn 1, drivers will cut left into the infield before taking on a left-right combination that sends them the opposite direction up the pit lane. Here, drivers will take on the series’ signature 70-foot jump and dirt section, following the dirt all the way up the pit access road before a left-hand hairpin returns them to the oval. A dramatic Joker Lap cuts off the entire Turn 1 and infield section, sending drivers directly to the dirt in a move that can save over five seconds per lap.

Red Bull GRC Returns to Seattle This Weekend

Save 15% on Evergreen Speedway tickets with code RBGRC15
Evergreen Speedway will play host to one of Red Bull Global Rallycross’ most popular events of 2016 this Friday and Saturday, as Red Bull GRC Seattle returns to the series schedule. Now serving as the penultimate event of the year before the season-ending Los Angeles doubleheader, a strong showing in the Pacific Northwest will be crucial to determining this year’s championship-winning drivers in both Supercar and GRC Lites.

Defending Red Bull GRC champion Scott Speed is riding high into the weekend on the strength of three straight victories, and now holds the Supercar points lead for the first time since winning last year’s crown. But his Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammate Tanner Foust is only nine points behind, and ready to make up for late-race issues last month in Atlantic City that dropped him from the race lead. Subaru Rally Team USA also brings Chris Atkinson and David Higgins out to play as they look to defend their victory in the most recent Seattle race two years ago.

In GRC Lites, Cabot Bigham retains the points lead over defending champion Oliver Eriksson, but he won’t have an easy task ahead of him to defend the advantage. Tanner Whitten, with his three podiums in three starts so far this year, rejoins the Lites field in Seattle, while newcomers Scott Anderson and James Rimmer will also make things interesting in their rallycross debuts.

Tanner Foust Sweeps Red Bull GRC Phoenix

Two-time Supercar champion tames field at Wild Horse Pass

Tanner Foust extended his Red Bull Global Rallycross career win record by taking Sunday’s Red Bull GRC final in Phoenix. Foust, who also won Saturday’s main event, took the ninth victory of his Red Bull GRC career over Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammate Scott Speed.

“It’s going to be a great season—obviously it’s a great way to start the season for Volkswagen,” the two-time Supercar champion said from the podium. “But different cars have different skills on different tracks, so it’s going to be a mix up. A lot of the new cars out there are extremely fast, and it’s going to be a great season!”

As with Saturday, the Beetles were dominant in the preliminary rounds, with both Foust and Speed sweeping their respective heats and semifinals. Brian Deegan, coming off a third place finish in Saturday’s main event, won the last chance qualifier but only made his way up to sixth in the main event. In the final, Foust beat Speed in a drag race off the line and never looked back with a dominant performance.
