Jonathan McKennedy Holds Off John Smith to Win the Ace Of Diamonds Presented by North South Shootout SMRS Event at Ace Motor Speedway

Sophia, NC (April 25, 2016) – The Southern Modified Racing Series Presented By PASS made their second stop of a ten race schedule at Ace Motor Speedway located on the outskirts of Burlington, N.C. The event started with Walnut Cove’s Burt Myers capturing the Pole Award. After a mandatory re-draw of the top six qualifiers Myers would remain in the top starting position alongside of Concord’s Josh Nichols.

Myers would keep the top position for the first 85 laps and lead the way to the pit stops as the caution was displayed. As the pit stops un-folded Jonathan McKennedy of Chelmsford, MA came out first after lagging back in the rear for the first portion of the feature. He would continue to keep the top position fending off multiple attempts by Winston-Salem’s John Smith, capturing his second consecutive win of the season. B. Myers, Jason Myers and Brandon Ward rounded out the top five finishers.

“Car ran well all day it had pretty good speed in it. I elected to save a little at start of the race knowing it was a long race and could only change one tire. I came in the pits 7th and came out with the lead. For the last 40 laps I had a lot of pressure from behind. Most the laps there was a car only a few feet away from my rear bumper. Great to win at another track for the first time being there. Car count was down but majority of the cars that attended had top notch equipment with good drivers from the south. Like to thank my pit crew, my spotter, Pettit Engines, Race Work Exit Realty, JTK Engine Repair,” stated McKennedy.

Krachun Set for Busy Weekend at Ace, Hickory

NEMA Lites Rookie on Verge of Championship

Ryan Krachun of Neshanic Station, NJ, went NEMA Lites racing this season due to car count and a new challenge. The desire to race against 20-22 cars weekly compared to 8-12 at some USAC events brought the 16-year-old driver to race across New England this season for his father Mike Krachun.

“Our experience with NEMA has been great,” Krachun said. “They welcomed us with open arms. I was lucky enough to meet some great people. … The cars are a lot of fun and the racing is really good too. In NEMA we can go three, even four wide at some tracks where in other sanctions you really can’t do that and that’s what makes the NEMA Midget so much fun.

“And what’s also been great was how the full NEMA Midget drivers have mentored me like Randy Cabral. He’s taken me under his wing and he’s helped me a lot at some of the different tracks and he’s just been a great guy to me.”

Joey Mucciacciaro Prepares for 2012 Legends National Title Bid

Joey Mucciacciaro's family has been involved in racing for nearly three decades. He knew that he wanted to become a race car driver when he was older. His favorite driver was Richie Evans. "My dad was on a modified team with my uncle Danny (the previous owner of New DWY Chassis/Chassis Dynamics), and driver Johnny Anderson,” said Mucciacciaro. “I always loved hearing stories about my dad's old race team."

At fifteen years old, the Wolcott, CT driver is a young veteran. He began his career in Quarter Midgets at Silver City at the age of five. "I loved it my first time behind the wheel,” said Mucciacciaro. More travel came with the territory, as they got more serious about racing. In his final season of Quarter Midget racing, Mucciacciaro won 3 track championships and more than 32 wins. Mucciacciaro moved to the faster Legends Cars for a new challenge. "We had several top-5 finishes and took home the (2010) Rookie of the Year.”

In 2011, Mucciacciaro competed twice a week in Legends at Waterford Speedbowl. "I've learned so much racing head to head against a bunch of great drivers and pushing my equipment to the limit week in and week out,” said Mucciacciaro. “It's also given me a big advantage when getting in the Midget and racing at (Waterford) because I've learned my way around there." More seat time has been critical for Mucciacciaro. “Driving these cars has helped me in both divisions,” said Mucciacciaro. “The Legends taught me throttle control and how to drive a car that is nearly out of control each lap. The NEMA (Lite) taught me consistency and smoothness. I benefit from what they teach me when I'm driving a different car."

Brunnhoelzl Moves Closer

Win at Ace puts him on verge of title

Altamahaw, NC — George Brunnhoelzl III moved closer to the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship Friday night with his fourth win of the season in the Lightning Fast 150 at Ace Speedway.

Brunnhoelzl, who started the race second, took the lead from pole sitter Burt Myers on a Lap 26 restart. He held the lead until Myers was able to pass on a restart on lap 72 but he quickly resumed the top spot one lap later and clearly had the best car all night.

“My crew gave me a really good car tonight,” Brunnhoelzl said in Victory Lane. “I was able to get a good run off of the turns and I think that is what made the difference for us tonight.”

News & Notes: Brunnhoelzl hopes to celebrate in return to Ace

Friday might be a day that George Brunnhoelzl III (No. 28 Oval Speed/Fibrwrap/PT Ford)  might never forget.

Although he doesn’t want to talk about it until it actually happens, the West Babylon, N.Y., native who now calls Mooresville, N.C., home has a chance to clinch the 2009 title and  become the fourth champion in the history of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour this Friday night after the running of the Lightning Fast 150 at Ace Speedway.

Brunnhoelzl III enters this Friday’s race with a 140 point lead over Andy Seuss (No. 47 Advance Auto Parts/Q Racing Oil/Stuart Auto Dodge) and if he can build that lead by 41 points during the running of the Lightning Fast 150, there will be one big party after the race.

News & Notes: Christopher, Seuss Take Momentum To Ace Speedway

Two races and two different winners. That is a quick review of the 2009 season so far on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. This Friday night’s race could give NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour fans their third winner in as many races to start the season.

There will be two drivers that hope that isn’t the case this weekend.

Ted Christopher (No. 00 Sherm’s Towing Chevrolet) won the season opener on March 21 at Concord (N.C.) Speedway and followed that up by winning the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s season-opening Icebreaker Sunday at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.

Miller Looking For A Change In His Fortunes

Tour visits Ace Friday, Caraway Saturday

After finishing in the top 10 at the season-opening race at Concord Speedway, most drivers would be pretty happy heading into this weekend’s Lightnin’ Fast 150 at Ace Speedway but then again, L.W. Miller (No. 36 John Baker Plumbing & Utilities Pontiac) isn’t like most drivers.

Miller hopes his luck will change this Friday when the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour returns to Ace Speedway, where the Dushore, Penn., native scored his last win on the Tour at this event in 2008. (CLICK HERE FOR RACE EVENT PAGE)

“I love racing at Ace Speedway,” said Miller. “It is a track that has been around a long time but Greg (Davis) and his staff have done a great job of keeping it up and we always seem to run well there.”
