Coughlin Keeps Points Lead After Redbud 300

ANDERSON, IN – When Cody Coughlin left Indiana’s Anderson Speedway in May, he left a winner, and now, despite a race that ended early for the 20-year-old, he is still the ARCA/CRA Super Series point leader. Coughlin will head to Indianapolis on Friday night on top of the standings after an early race parts failure resulted in a 19th-place finish for the No. 1 JEGS.com Toyota Camry.

The day started off about as well as it possibly could for Coughlin and his Team JEGS crew. They were near the top of the board in practice, they qualified second and ran in the top five for much of the early part of the 300-lap affair.

During a restart on lap 54, the Ohio native and another driver bounced off of each other numerous times on the first lap after the restart. During the confrontation, the driveline broke on his Super Late Model. As a result, Coughlin’s car spun to bring out a caution.

Four Races in Seven Days up Next for CRA Points Leader Coughlin

COLUMBUS, OH – Cody Coughlin is about to begin one of the busiest weeks of his racing career.  Four races in seven days.  That’s something a dirt driver would do.  Coincidentally, the Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver will be hitting the dirt for one of those races, but first, it all begins at Indiana’s bullring of Anderson Speedway for the Redbud 300 on Saturday, July 16.  Ironically, the busy week will end at Anderson a week later for the 100-lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event onJuly 23.

In between the two races at Anderson is the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Aspen Dental Eldora Dirt Derby at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway on Wednesday, July 20, and the ARCA/CRA Super Series 100 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis on Friday, July 22.

“This is going to be crazy, but also a ton of fun,” said the 20 year-old Coughlin.  “I’ve never done anything like this with so many races in such a short period of time.  I’ve also never raced on dirt before, so that race at Eldora is going to be interesting, but I’m looking forward to it.”

The Race
This is Cody Coughlin’s fifth Super Late Model start of the season, and first since his victory at Anderson Speedway on Mother’s Day weekend.

Coughlin has never raced at the half-mile oval of Baer Field Motorsports Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana before, but he did recently test at the facility. The Delaware, Ohio driver said the test will help him get up to speed faster this weekend.

“Thanks to the test I no longer have to spend the beginning of practice figuring the place out,” said Coughlin, who is the current series point leader. “Now I can instead focus on the car and making sure I give the best feedback possible to my crew.”

Jared Irvan Delivers Father’s Day Gift For 1st PASS South Win At Anderson

WILLIAMSTON, SC (June 19) – Jared Irvan took the lead from Roger Lee Newton with six laps to go following a long side-by-side battle to win the Electric City 125 Friday night at Anderson Motor Speedway. The win was Irvan’s first career victory in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model division.

“My car really wasn’t that good in practice and even at the beginning of the race, but I definitely saved my stuff and was able to come back to the front,” said Irvan alongside the Kia Of Anderson Chevrolet in victory lane. “Roger Lee [Newton] and I raced each other hard, but we raced it other clean and I’m glad he raced me that way. I didn’t think I was going to get by him for a while, but finally I got a good run coming off turn two and I got by him.”

The win was especially sweet for Jared’s dad, Ernie, and proved to be an early Father’s Day present for the 1991 Daytona 500 winner.

Ben Rowe Snaps Dry Spell with Peach Blossom Special Win at Anderson

WILLIAMSTON, SC (March 21) – 3-time Pro All Stars Series (PASS) National Champion Ben Rowe began his title defense in style with a thrilling win in Saturday night’s Peach Blossom Special for the PASS South Super Late Models at Anderson Motor Speedway. Rowe held off rookies Zane Smith and Jared Fryar to snap a winless streak dating back to November, 2013 when he won the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway.

“It was cat-and-mouse the whole race and on the restart I got out in front, I was just trying to keep the 77 [Smith] 2-3 car lengths behind,” said Rowe, after his 9th career PASS South Super Late Model win. “We stayed here till 8:30 last night working on a skip we had in the engine and I can’t thank my guys enough. It took me by surprise when [Smith] got up on the outside, but it’s tough. These kids are pretty fun to race with and coming to the checkers like that was pretty cool. ”

Jared Irvan paced the field in qualifying with a lap of 88. 074 miles per hour to capture his third career quick qualifying time. After the top 10 qualifiers redraw, Irvan and second fasted qualifier Jody Measamer swapped spots to lead the field to green for the 125 lapper.

DJ Shaw Excited to Start Season at Anderson’s Peach Blossom Special

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 13) – After a long off season for many teams, especially those in the Northeast and Canada, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) National Championship Series is set to kick off Saturday, March 21 with the Peach Blossom Special 125 at Anderson Motor Speedway. This year’s event will mark the first time PASS has raced at the Upstate South Carolina facility since veteran Brandon Ward took the checkered flag there in 2012.

This will also be the first time the defending PASS AIM Recycling Super Late Model champion, DJ Shaw, has ever raced at Anderson Motor Speedway. The Center Conway, NH native is a coming off a career year that saw him finally capture that first elusive PASS title, including a series leading three wins along the way. Although Shaw is new to Anderson Motor Speedway, he is excited about the opportunity to once again race in the South in the Peach Blossom Special.

“I enjoy coming down South to race like this early in the year,” says Shaw, driver of the Precision JLM/Dale Shaw Race Cars/Mulkern Excavating #60. “For one thing, it gets the season started sooner and that’s always a good thing. We’re using this more as a test for a car we built during the offseason that has a lot of new ideas and is kind of experimental.”

Anders Completes Journey to National Title

South Carolina Driver Wins First Whelen All-American Crown

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Anthony Anders was sitting with friends in the grandstands off Turn 4 at historic Greenville Pickens Speedway when he got the itch to give this racing thing a try. Twenty years later, the Easley, South Carolina, driver has reached the pinnacle of short-track racing.

Anders is the 2014 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship.

The 43-year-old Anders accomplished the feat by leading the national points standings every week of the season and finishing with 30 wins, ninth most in a single season in the history of the series.

“I remember being at the banquet and seeing all those banners (of past national champions),” Anders said. “I said, ‘I want to be there one day.’

Bassett Emerges Among Front Runners

Winston-Salem Driver And Family Team On The Rise

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Dillon Bassett made his debut among NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national point leaders this month, ranking as the No. 2 driver in the nation for the first three weeks of the season.

Bassett, 17, of Winston-Salem, N.C., didn’t plan to introduce his name to a national audience with such success.

“This is just the way it’s happening,” Bassett said. “Going into the season we had no intentions of being in championship point standings. We just wanted to focus on our equipment and try to win races.”

TJ Reaid Wins Third-Straight Spring CRA Race at Anderson

Georgia Driver Puts New Sponsor Mitch Smith Auto Service in Victory Lane

TJ Reaid really likes Anderson Speedway and the stats show it. Reaid has now gone to victory lane in his last three Spring starts at the Indiana quarter-mile and in Saturday night’s Anderson Properties 125, after setting fast time and starting sixth, he was able to take a new sponsor to victory lane at the drop of the checkered flag.

Reaid, who had long-time short track racing supporters Mitch Smith Auto Service on the side of his No. 41 Super Late Model, was pleased with the result in their first outing together and hopes to continue the trend as their partnership continues.

“I’m really excited to get a win for those guys,” said Reaid. “As of now they’re going to do the Redbud (Redbud 300 CRA event at Anderson in June) with us and the two Winchester (Speedway) races, so I’m really looking forward to that. I can’t thank Mitch Smith enough, plus Gann Aviation, Custom Machine, my mom and dad and everybody who comes up and helps. It’s just a group effort for sure.”

NASCAR Returns to Anderson

South Carolina Adds Third Whelen All-American Series Track

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The NASCAR championship race for South Carolina got a little more competitive over the weekend. NASCAR and Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway announced Saturday at the track’s 2013 Champion’s Dinner and Awards Presentation that the .375-mile semi-banked oval will join the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series in 2014.

The return of Anderson gives the state three ovals that host Late Model Stock Cars as their top division.

Anderson operates on Friday nights and will pair with the historic Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway – a half-mile track that competes on Saturday nights. The tracks are about 30 miles apart and the rules package will be similar at both speedways for most divisions.

Fireworks On and Off the Track Await in PASS South’s Mid-Week Return to Anderson

CHARLOTTE, NC — As temperatures across the South continue to hover around the 100 degree mark on the temperature gauge, the racers of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) are tackling the challenge head on. After being rained out recently on the originally scheduled Saturday night date at Southern National Motorsports Park in eastern North Carolina, both the PASS South Super Late Models and PASS Pro Late Models took to the track to race on an extremely hot and humid Sunday afternoon. On Wednesday night July 3rd, both divisions will take to the track once again under extreme heat, this time in the Upstate of South Carolina at the extremely tight and challenging 3/8 mile Anderson Motor Speedway as part of the 8th Annual Firecracker 150. And, much like the recent challenges posed at Southern National, Anderson will present its own unique set of obstacles to the Nation’s best short track racers.

Last year, Winston Salem, NC native Brandon Ward was up to the test, leading flag-to-flag in a dominant performance to win the Firecracker 150 for his second career PASS South Super Late Model victory. Despite being fifth in PASS South points entering the special mid-week show at Anderson, Ward and his New Day Motorsports team are not happy with their performance thus far in 2013. The car that won at Anderson last year was destroyed in a hard crash back in May at South Boston Speedway. However, Ward thinks his chances are good to become the first repeat winner of the Firecracker 150 based on the performance of the new kpmoto.com/ Foothill Ford machine at Caraway and Southern National.

“It’s all about survival at Anderson, it’s hot, you’ve got to save tires and it’s all about who’s prepared to save the most and have something left physically and in the car at the end,” said Ward. “So far we’re really happy with the new car and we think it will be every bit as good, or better, than what we had there last year.”

PASS South Returns To Southern National Raceway Park

NAPLES, ME — Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials released the 2013 schedules today for both the PASS North Super Late Models and PASS South Super Late Models. In its 13th year of operation, PASS will sanction over 30 Super Late Model races across North America in 2013, including the previously announced PASS Northwest races at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval in Washington and the PASS National opener at Florida’s Auburndale Speedway on February 9th.

The PASS North schedule consists of 13 confirmed dates with races in Maine, New Hampshire, and the Canadian province of Quebec. PASS South has 14 confirmed dates with races in the Carolinas and Virginia. Both schedules could see up to two more additional dates to be added by January.

“We are very pleased to have our 2013 schedules out for the PASS North and PASS South Super Late Models at such an early date,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “It is my hope that our teams of talented racers and mechanics around the country can start making plans for next year and hopefully this schedule release will help out in their search for sponsors. I think the PASS fans will enjoy the tracks we are going to in 2013 and will have the chance to see some really great racing at some outstanding venues.”
