Baiz Eyes Championship in Sophomore Season

Martin-McClure Racing announced Hunter Baize as the driver of their No. 13 Reynolds Wrap Toyota Camry earlier this month. The Bremen, KY driver has high hopes for his second NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season. The deal came together after Eric McClure contacted Baize with a couple of races remaining last season.

“We hope to win a championship,” Baize said. “I think that we’ve built a team that can. I think taking what I learned the last year, taking their success, I believe we’ll be a contender at any race we enter and I think we’ll be around in the championship discussion.”

The team had 3 wins in 12 races. Chad Finchum scored their first victory at Bristol (TN) Motor Speedway.  NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Austin Cindric won at Virginia International Raceway ( VIR) and Watkins Glen (NY) International.

Rain Washes Out Coughlin’s Last Race at Columbus

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Cody Coughlin went to his home track on Saturday knowing it would be his last chance to score a win at Columbus Motor Speedway. Unfortunately, Coughlin never even got the chance to go for the victory on Saturday night because Mother Nature spoiled the party once again.

Coughlin proved that he’d definitely be a contender for the win in the 30 minutes of practice he and his fellow drivers were given. Coughlin shot to second on the speed charts before the first rain shower came and brought a premature end to the practice session.

With this race being the makeup date for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Memorial 100 from its originally scheduled Memorial Day weekend slot, Coughlin and his team had an abbreviated schedule for the event. Qualifying was completed back in May, so all he had was practice and the race.

Harvey Harrison Gets ‘Last Laugh’ in SCSCS Columbus Closer

Columbus, Ohio (June 19, 2016) – The Final Lap 71 at Columbus Motor Speedway presented by Performance Fiberglass was decided by a final lap game changer. When the smoke cleared, Harvey Harrison became the last driver to etch his name in the Super Cup Stock Car Series history books at the Central Ohio facility.

It was a night and day result compared to the Renick, West Virginia driver’s initial appearance on the 1/3-mile in 2009.

“This place beat me so hard the first time I ever came here,” Harvey Harrison, who had never finished better than eighth at Columbus before, said. “It was a bad crash with the throttle hanging wide open. The thing is I didn’t feel like coming up here, but I’ve always come back. The place has always bit me, but tonight I feel like I got the last laugh. The ol’ 51 John 3:16 / Southern Coal Chevrolet Monte Carlo done good tonight.”

Between ‘The Rock’ and a Hard Place – 2016 SCSCS Schedule Set

Mount Joy, Pennsylvania (April 4, 2016) – After a rather active few months away from the race track, the Super Cup Stock Car Series has secured the dates and locations for its ninth full season of racing. The 2016 schedule will consist of eight points races at five tracks in three states, kicking off at some tricky venues featuring tight racing and concluding with a special event at a historic facility.

Midvale Speedway hosts the season opener on Saturday, May 14 as part of Frontier Tool and Equipment Rental night. This will mark the fifth straight year the series has visited the 3/10-mile facility, but the first to take place in the spring. If recent races have been any indication coupled with the event’s move from its traditional mid-summer date, the eastern Ohio track will present a match for the ultimate survival to the checkered flag.

Starting with Midvale, SCSCS drivers and teams will be showcased in front of a national audience on several occasions. Production of races as part of a renewed partnership with Sopwith Motorsports will air at a later date on MAVTV and for the first time.

Columbus Homecoming

This weekend’s race is a homecoming for Coughlin as the Columbus Motor Speedway is just a few miles away from his hometown of Delaware, Ohio.  As a result he gets to race in front of lots of friends and family, including his father, John, his mother, Di, and his sister, Kennedi, as well as what should be a huge contingent of fans all decked out in JEGS yellow.

A Familiar Face at the Drop of the Green

While Cody gets much of the spotlight for his on-track prowess, his sister, Kennedi, will take some of it away at the drop of the green Sunday at Columbus Motor Speedway.  In fact, Kennedi herself will be dropping the green flag as the honorary starter.  She is hoping her brother is the first car in the line when she does that and later on after 125-laps when the flagman throws the checkers as well.

Cody Coughlin Eager for a Home-Field Victory on a Big Weekend in Columbus

(Delaware, Ohio) – It’s a big weekend to be in Columbus, Ohio.  The number-one ranked Buckeyes play a home game for the first time this college football season against Hawaii and just down the road, one of their biggest fans, Cody Coughlin, will wage war in a battle to protect his home turf.  The Joe Gibbs Development driver will race in the Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 at Columbus Motor Speedway with his No. 1 JEGS Toyota Camry in the ARCA / CRA Super Series.

“I’m really happy to be racing at home this weekend with my family and friends coming to the track,” said Coughlin.  “As much as I hope the Buckeyes get the win on Saturday, I hope we get the win on Sunday.  We ran well there a few months ago and knew we had a great shot until bad weather postponed the race.  My guys (Team Mgr. Kevin Hamlin, crew chief Nick Easton, spotter Scott Wimmer and crew-member Dave Holt) have been working hard on our Late Model program and I know we are going to be fast.”

Coughlin has run well at Columbus in the past.  He finished second in his only start at the 1/3-mile oval in 2014.  Coughlin has finished in the top five on two other occasions at Columbus throughout his racing career.

Rette Jones Racing Announces Expansion

MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (June 27, 2015) – Officials from Rette Jones Racing (RJR) announced today the expansion of the team’s program from the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards to now include the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKPSE).

The team will make their debut in the NASCAR feeder series next weekend at Columbus (Oh.) Motor Speedway for the NAPA 150 on Saturday, July 4. The seventh race of the season will mark the first of a limited schedule planned for the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team.

“We’re proud of this next step in the growth of our young team,” said team principal Mark Rette. “Rette Jones Racing is still a big believer in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, but to ensure we have a diverse program, it was important for us to make this leap into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.”

Persistent Storms Halt Performance Fiberglass Products 75 presented by CoolShirt

Columbus, Ohio (June 14, 2015) – A pop-up shower came through 20 minutes into the initial Super Cup Stock Car Series practice session at Columbus Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon.  Unfortunately, it would not be the only rainfall in the area and as a result track and series officials were forced to cancel the second race of the 2015 season.

The event will not be rescheduled; however, it has been agreed upon between competitors and ownership with CNB Bank Raceway Park to hold twin 50 lap races when the series returns to the Clearfield, Pennsylvania facility in two weeks rather than the originally scheduled 75 lap feature.  Each race on the evening of Saturday, June 27 will award championship points, which will make up for the lost opportunity due to the rainout at Columbus.

Further details regarding the next event will be forthcoming, but will mirror the last time the series used this format in 2009.  Information and race day schedule will be available at the official web site as well as on Facebook at and on Twitter@SCSCSRacing.

Super Cup Stock Car Series Competitors Set to Tackle Challenging Columbus

Skyland, North Carolina (June 8, 2015) – After an exciting and eventful season opener the Super Cup Stock Car Series is prepared for more of the same as the teams enter the state of Ohio for their sixth appearance at Columbus Motor Speedway.

Dan Bainey, who won in his second career start last month at CNB Bank Raceway Park (PA), has never driven at the 1/3-mile track that resembles a circle more than a standard oval.  As a result of his victory he enters the 2015 running of the Performance Fiberglass Products 75 presented by CoolShirt as the point leader.

“That’s pretty cool to say,” Bainey remarked regarding being up top in the standings after his win at CNB.  “I have never driven for points, so I am really excited to get going in the season.  We left (CNB) with the car in one shape, minor things I’m sure before we get to Columbus.  We will see what we can do there.”

The driver that led the most laps and as a result acquired the most bonus points last time out was Brent Nelson, the winner in 2014 when the series visited Columbus.  Things will be different in 2015, some planned but another being unexpected leading up to the race.

“Doing routine maintenance I checked the valve lash and found the rocker arm was busted and the bearing had gone out of the shaft rockers,” Nelson explained.

Not to worry as Nelson will bring out his backup car, the same machine in which he previously ran in the series.

“I redid the backup car over the winter as well, so I thought what better time to bring that old thing out and see what she can do,” Nelson said. “It might be for our benefit.”

In addition, drivers will continue having to become acclimated with a different tire on a completely disparate track.

“Tires are going to be very important at Columbus,” Nelson mentioned. “They have so much more grip than what we are accustomed to.  It could play a big role.”

In last year’s 75 lap event, Nelson and eventual season champion JJ Pack waged a phenomenal battle for the top spot as the number of circuits remaining continued to dwindle.  This year could prove even more competitive after the second groove in the corners received a fresh coat of high-polymer asphalt as part of off-season facility upgrades.

“It should open it up for some good exciting racing,” Nelson said.  “We’re the reigning champion at Columbus so we’re going to go back and try to get another one.”

Pack, Bainey as well as other CNB top five finishers Harvey and Brian Harrison look to stop Nelson and achieve their first victories at Columbus.  In addition, drivers such as Kevin Kromer hope to shake off a slow start to the season and quickly get back into contention.

Race day and competitor information is available while even more updates can be viewed at and on Twitter@SCSCSRacing.

Pendleton Repeats as Columbus Champ

Busch Team Adds Second Car For 2014

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Chad Pendleton repeated as Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway’s Late Model division champion in 2013, but placed second to Bobby Justus in the state point race. He won both NASCAR Whelen All-American Series titles in 2012.

The comparison of the two seasons now motivates Pendleton to excel in 2014. His team expands this year with the intent of again being a factor in the track and state point races. They’ve been racing fulltime at Columbus and making about three starts a year at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, Ohio.

“Everything we did at Kil-Kare in 2012 turned out good. Everything we did in 2013, we fell flat on our face,” Pendleton said. “We set a goal to finish every lap of every race. We really struggled the second half of the season.”
