Gravel Takes Four for Five

Packed House Cheers on Haudenschild after Three Collisions

WILLIS, TX — April 14, 2017 — “It is official. David Gravel has cleared the scales in the CJB Motorsports No. 5, headed to Victory Lane!” cried Johnny Gibson over the P.A. at Gator Motorplex Thursday night. This was win number four of the season in the No. 5 machine, and a twentieth career win for Gravel.

He worked hard for this one, starting in ten and working the high side. While Jason Sides started on the pole, with NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne in second, it was Paul McMahan in the lead when Gravel finally took it in lap 30 — and he took it from below.

“I started tenth and was in second before I knew it,” said the inaugural Gator Bash champ. “I knew it was a 40-lap race. I tried to be really patient with Paul [McMahan]. The curve got really really really tricky as the race went on, and I almost bit the wall a couple of times.”

Tony Stewart Racing: Donny Schatz World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Texas Outlaw Nationals Preview

DONNY SCHATZ
Historic Devil’s Bowl Speedway Celebrates Outlaws’ 40th Season; TSR’s Arctic Cat/Ford Performance Team Seeking Second Texas Triumph

INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2017) – Making history isn’t something eight-time and reigning World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz is concerned about, but appreciating it certainly is. For more than half of his life, the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing driver has chased his dream of competing with “The Greatest Show on Dirt,” a series that was created by the late Ted Johnson 40 years ago and started at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

This weekend, Schatz and his Arctic Cat/Ford Performance-backed team lead the Outlaws back to Devil’s Bowl, where Johnson first staged an “Outlaw” race in March of 1978. The two-night Texas Outlaw Nationals provides Schatz an opportunity to continue his quest for a ninth WoO title while competing to win a second Ted Johnson Memorial race trophy.

Since the beginning of 1997, Schatz has realized his dream of being an Outlaw, climbing the ranks from teenage rookie to one of the most decorated drivers in series history. In typical World of Outlaws fashion, his journey has been filled with a lot of ups and downs along the way.

Tony Stewart Racing: World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series LoneStar Speedway Report

Schatz Dominates Outlaws’ Return to Lone Star State
TSR Arctic Cat/Ford Performance Team Scores Third Consecutive WoO Victory

Dates: Friday-Saturday, March 3-4, 2017
Series: World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Sprint Car Series
Locations: Friday – LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas
Saturday – Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas
Winners: Friday – Donny Schatz of Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing
Saturday – Postponed by Rain, rescheduled for April 13
TSR Results: Friday – Started 1st, Finished 1st/Running, completed 35 of 35 laps
TSR Points: Donny Schatz – (1st with 572 points, 20 points ahead of second-place Jason Johnson)

The incredibly hot start to begin the 2017 World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Sprint Car Series campaign continued this past weekend for Tony Stewart-Curb Agajanian Racing (TSR) driver Donny Schatz and the Arctic Cat/Ford Performance-backed team with a clean sweep Friday night in the East Texas Lone Star Shootout at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas. Schatz set the night’s quick time in qualifying, led every lap of his heat, scored a flag-to-flag win the Craftsman Club Dash and paced all 35 laps of the A-Feature to score his third consecutive victory aboard the TSR No. 15 Arctic Cat/Ford Performance J&J. The eight-time and reigning WoO champion was looking to add to his winning streak Saturday night at the Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, but rain forced WoO officials to reschedule the event for April 13.

“I say it all the time, but these guys who make up this Arctic Cat/Ford Performance team are simply incredible,” Schatz said following his team’s sixth victory in nine starts this season. “Tony (Stewart) has surrounded me with great people and I just go out every night and try to do my job the best I can. We haven’t been to this track in a while but, man, this place was fast tonight. I know in qualifying that we had a car that was really good and Rick (Warner), Scuba (Steve Swenson) and Brad (Mariscotti) just kept dialing it in. Starting up front helped and I just kept searching the track as the night went along. We knew as long as we got a good start in the feature and stayed patient everything would work out. I’m so happy to get another win for Arctic Cat. We spent some time at their National Sales Meeting in Minnesota earlier this week and everyone is so excited about the partnership we have. I couldn’t be prouder to be carrying the Arctic Cat brand and taking it to victory lane. The same goes for Ford Performance. They had a huge weekend winning the Daytona 500 last weekend and we’re excited about our future with them, as well. We can’t wait for the next race. This is a lot of fun.”

Tony Stewart Racing: Donny Schatz World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Texas Weekend Advance

DONNY SCHATZ Reigning Champion Ready to Resume Outlaw Campaign in Texas; TSR’s Arctic Cat/Ford Performance Team Looks to Continue Hot Start

INDIANAPOLIS (March 2, 2017) – It’s back to business this weekend for eight-time and reigning World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz and his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team following the only weekend off the series has over the next eight months. And business is good for the driver of the TSR No. 15 Arctic Cat/Ford Performance/Curb J&J following a sizzling start that included five wins in eight starts – three Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions victories and a pair of WoO triumphs – on Florida soil during Speedweeks.

Like one of the NASCAR Cup Series teams co-owned by Tony Stewart that is coming off a hugely successful Speedweeks, the TSR No. 15 crew must put a remarkable Florida start behind it and turn its focus this weekend toward the grind of the season-long championship journey ahead. Schatz, who culminated the Outlaws’ opening weekend by scoring two wins on the same day, leads the Outlaws back into action this weekend for a pair of stops in eastern Texas beginning with Friday’s East Texas Lone Star Shootout at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore. The following night, he’ll look to come out on top at the inaugural Gator Bash as the Outlaws make their debut at Gator Motorplex, a quarter-mile, dirt oval located in Willis, roughly an hour north of Houston.

It’s only appropriate the TSR team will continue its season with another “Gator” opportunity in its scope. After winning three Gator trophies at the DIRTcar Nationals, Schatz is already off to one of his best starts in this, his 21st season of competing with the Outlaws. Only the results of the opening week of 2009, which included a run through Florida that included a pair of ASCoC triumphs and two WoO A-Features at Volusia, come close. To go along with his three victories aboard the Arctic Cat/Ford Performance-backed machine, Schatz also came home second twice in two other ASCoC main events and finished 14th in the Outlaws’ season opener. Now, the challenge is continuing the winning streak in Texas as the Outlaws’ begin a 15-race slate being tabbed the Outlaws’ “Kick Off Tour” with stops in Texas, Nevada, California, Arizona, and back in Texas.
