Grant Grabs Lucas Oil Speedway Win

Wheatland, MO (May 6, 2017) – In a race that went twenty-five non-stop laps and saw all twenty-two starters complete the A-Main, Justin Grant picked up a win on Saturday night with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprints at Lucas Oil Speedway. Korey Weyant, Zach Daum, Clinton Boyles, and eighteenth starting Brandon Mattox rounded out the top five.

Grant, who has been one of open-wheel racing’s hottest drivers in 2017, moved from his outside starting spot into the lead as he was chased by Daum and Weyant. Daum and Weyant put on a great battle for the runner-up spot as Grant steadily built his lead. Weyant would see his attempt to get by Daum come to an end when he made contact with a lapped car in the closing laps. Weyant was able to save it and continued on, but the contact allowed Boyles to move by into third.

Grant picked up his second career series win aboard his Sam McGhee Motorsports/Mike McGhee and Associates/Brown & Miller Racing Solutions Foxco-powered Maxim. Daum was second in his Daum Crop Insurance/5D Composites Eagle. Weyant would rebound to get back by Boyles for third in his Weeble’s Bar and Grill/Ealey Transportation/Tosti’s Transmission Eagle with Automotive Machine power. Boyles was fourth in the Jesse Hockett Racing/Lucas Oil/Rod End Supply RMS-powered Maxim. Mattox was the Indy Race Parts Hard Charger as he passed thirteen cars to finish fifth in his Mattox-Nigg Racing/Gene Nigg Construction/Air Source One Chevy-powered DRC. Layne Himebaugh was sixth in the Risley Trash Service entry normally piloted by Craig Carroll, who was away on his honeymoon. Chance Morton was seventh with Ty Hulsey, Warren Johnson, and Andrew Deal completing the top ten.

Sun Shines at Lucas Oil Speedway

Wheatland, MO – When the dust settled and the cars cleared, it was Indianapolis, Indiana’s own Tyler “Sunshine” Courtney claiming his first-career POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League victory in the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget League co-sanctioned Open Wheel Showdown at the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” Lucas Oil Speedway for night two of the Missouri Mid-State Midget Nationals.

In an action-packed feature event, Courtney started 11th and set off charging to the front at the drop of the green flag. With a pair of POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League Rookie candidates Zeb Wise and Jodie Robinson leading the field to green, Blake Hahn immediately jumped from the fourth position to the lead, gambling on the high-side entering turn one. With one lap down, the racing action slowed for Terry Babb spun on the front stretch. Resuming racing, Hahn’s victory chances escaped his grasp as he looped it exiting turn four.

Inheriting the lead with one lap in the books, Tyler Thomas showed the way for Spencer Bayston, Ryan Robinson, Zeb Wise, and Justin Grant. Grant took to the rim of the banked Lucas Oil Speedway and worked his way to second, on the tail of Tyler Thomas. On lap 11, Grant captured the lead as Thomas faded to third, falling right into the crosshairs of Tyler Courtney and Zach Daum.

Flood Damage at Flint Creek Speedway Forces Cancellation of ASCS Red River Event on Friday

W. SILOAM SPRINGS, Okla. (May 2, 2017) Hit hard with flooding this past weekend, officials with Flint Creek Speedway in West Siloam Springs, Okla. have made the tough call to cancel this Friday’s events with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.

According to track owner/promoter, Jacob Frese, the heavy rains from this past weekend caused considerable damage to the track surface along with other aspects of the property. Hoping Wednesday’s forecast for more rain would ease so as to allow crews enough time to get the facility back in order, it is apparent that will not be the case and for the safety of the teams and fans, Frese made the call to cancel.
At this time, Frese and ASCS Red River Competition Director, Terry Mattox, are looking at rescheduling the race. Any updates will posted to http://www.ascsracing.com.
