Courtney Connects on First USAC National Midget Win in Montpelier Indiana Midget Week Opener

Montpelier, Indiana………Just four nights ago, Tyler Courtney had yet to break into the win column in USAC competition for 2017.

A mere four nights later, the Indianapolis, Indiana native is two victories richer following last Friday night’s USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car score at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska, before the latest triumph – his very first USAC National Midget points-paying victory – in Tuesday’s opener for the 13th installment of Indiana Midget Week at Montpelier Motor Speedway.

The 23-year-old driver used the bottom to slip past Alex Bright for the lead on the fifth lap, then immediately fended off a slider thrown by hard-charging Brady Bacon. Courtney then mastered a late-race restart to drive away for a commanding win to become the first driver ever to earn both his first USAC National Midget and National Sprint Car wins in Indiana Midget Week and Indiana Sprint Week.

Pickens Packs Kiwi Pride & Support for Indiana Midget Week

Some teams travel up and down the highway, going from race-to-race with massive haulers akin to a race shop on wheels. Some opt for a more modest approach with enough room to fit their car, a few spares and tires to get by for the night. Then, there are a handful of teams who go barebones with a dually and an open trailer.
None of the above are viable options when your race team is based in the Southern Hemisphere and your plan is to bring much of your equipment to the United States!
Such is the case with Auckland, New Zealand’s seven-time NZ Midget champion Michael Pickens, and the Seamount Racing crew who, after a weekend of racing in Australia, made a mad rush at the last-minute to organize their necessities to go racing in the States.

USAC Western States Champ Ronnie Gardner Teams with Rodela for Indiana Midget Week Run

Four-time USAC Western States Midget champion Ronnie Gardner has partnered with team owner Jerome Rodela to compete in this year’s Indiana Midget Week beginning Tuesday, June 6 at Montpelier Motor Speedway.

Gardner called central Indiana home for several years of his childhood, but the Corona, California resident has quickly become one of the premier drivers on the west coast where he’s claimed four-straight USAC Western States Midget titles and collected 21 career victories, placing him fourth all-time on the series win list.

Gardner has accomplished all those particular feats aboard the Six8 Motorsports No. 68. But when he arrives Tuesday at his Montpelier, Indiana destination following a cross-country road trip from Cali, Gardner will strap into a car he’s normally competing against – the Jerome Rodela-owned #25x.

Kyle Larson & Rico Abreu Return to Their Roots for USAC Indiana Midget Week

Fan-favorites Kyle Larson and Rico Abreu will join the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports team for this year’s edition of USAC “Indiana Midget Week.”

Both drivers will be aboard the Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports-prepared machines for the six-race series that begins Tuesday night, June 6, at Montpelier Motor Speedway.

Larson of Elk Grove, California will compete in the first two IMW events at Montpelier and the following night, Wednesday, June 7, at Gas City I-69 Speedway. The NASCAR star, who currently stands second in Cup points, has won at both venues during his USAC National Midget racing career, including a Gas City triumph in 2013.

Just last year, Larson raced to victory in the series’ first appearance at Montpelier where he outdueled teammate Tanner Thorson in the final laps to score the win. The 24-year-old wheelman has collected 14 career USAC National Midget victories, including his most recent appearance at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway’s “Turkey Night Grand Prix” in November of 2016.

Indiana Midget Week has Arrived; Six Nights, Six Tracks, Six Races Set for June 6-11

A glance at the calendar indicates that the month of June has arrived. The temps have begun to rise and the intensity has multiplied as the thick of the USAC racing schedule is upon us.

As the first of 16 scheduled USAC National events this month were completed last weekend, it’s crystal clear the urgency has increased. For this upcoming stretch of races can set the tone on a quest for a season championship. It can also break you when you’re least suspecting it.

Indiana Midget Week is one of those tests. It’s a test of endurance and a trial by fire. It’s what racers hunger for – the opportunity to overcome the most daunting of tasks by proving to others, and themselves, that they can achieve anything no matter how challenging the scenario.

USAC Sprints Take On New Territory this Weekend at Plymouth and Montpelier

Both of this upcoming weekend’s USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car stops take place on a pair of Hoosierland tracks that have been a witness to over a century and a half of auto racing history.

However, Plymouth Speedway and Montpelier Motor Speedway have only played host to a combined one lone USAC Sprint Car event. A new opportunity arises and a there’s new land to claim. It all lies ahead this Friday and Saturday when a new generation of USAC stars including Justin Grant, Chad Boespflug, and Chris Windom vie to take their piece of the pie.

First up is Plymouth Speedway this Friday night, April 21st where, in the past, the USAC National Midgets have made their home not only the pavement, but also on the dirt. But this will be the first foray for the USAC Sprint Car division at Plymouth on either surface.
