Outlaws Return to ‘The Hub of Racing’

Outlaws Set to Perform on Auto Racing’s Biggest Stage

CONCORD, N.C. – May 12, 2017 – No city is more synonymous with auto racing than Charlotte, NC. On Friday, May 26, The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway will host the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series for the 16th time, giving one driver the opportunity to say he won at Charlotte alongside the best in the industry.

Having earned the nickname ‘The Hub of Racing’, Charlotte, NC is home to many racing heroes, including numerous NASCAR teams and two full-time World of Outlaws teams: Larson Marks Racing and Kasey Kahne Racing.

The grueling World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series 93-race schedule crisscrosses the country from Florida to California, working its way back east, then up into Canada and other places in between before making it to North Carolina. The Outlaws have up to four events a week this season, and for many drivers and crew, that means not seeing family from February’s legendary DIRTcarNationals in Florida until whenever the Series nears their hometowns. For Larson Marks Racing and Kasey Kahne Racing, this only happens twice a year: during the May Outlaw Showdown, and of course, World Finals.

Regionalized DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series Format on Tap for 2017

CONCORD, N.C. – Jan. 14, 2017 – On the heels of a strong season in 2016 that saw over 230 different DIRTcar Sportsman Modified drivers compete in 15 series points shows, DIRTcar Racing officials will unveil a new format for Sportsman Modified teams in 2017.

Currently,19 different tracks have signed up for DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds Series with negotiations ongoing for additional dates. To accommodate the increased demand, tour events being scheduled from the last weekend in April through late-September will be run under a regional format, with the schedule divided into four regions – North, West, Central and the East, which was announced earlier today will be a part of the King Of Dirt tour. DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series teams will only be required to participate in a region of their choice in order to earn valuable series points. Point races run in other regions will become optional events for teams.

Home Track Bonus Points awarded for participating at one of the many DIRTcar Racing sanction tracks is again the foundation for the 2017 schedule. Bonus points from the regional DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series will be added to a driver’s home track total on September 25. In addition to 1,000 Series bonus points, each regional points champion will earn a guaranteed starting spot at the Super DIRT Week Sportsman Championship at Oswego Speedway as well as a preferred starting spot in the OneDirt.com World Short Track Championship at the Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Schatz Sweetens the Season with Win

Gravel records career-best season on tour
CONCORD, N.C. – Oct. 29, 2016 – Donny Schatz orchestrated the celebration of his 229th career trip to victory lane differently Saturday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The 20-year World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series superstar – as usual – hoisted the flag into an erupting confetti machine after the Bad Boy Off Road World Finals. But the thousands of fans erupted too when he casted the VP Racing Fuels checkered flag into the stands among the falling confetti.
Another extraordinary component to Schatz’s night-cap was his reflection on the other 24 wins during the season. Each victory added value to his season – alongside the 60 top-five’s and 77 top-10’s in a season with some-90 points races. Collectively, his consistent success throughout the rigor of one of the most premier national tours led to a dominant 314-point spread in the series’ points race. With the points lead, Schatz officially captured his eighth series championship; Schatz has won a championship in 40 percent of his seasons with the Outlaws.
“I know fans would have loved to see it go down to the wire,” said Schatz about his championship campaign. “It’s hard to say in this sport when you take 92 events coast-to-coast you have during the season. We left Florida to start this season 100-plus points in the hole. We had to win. We dug out of that hole – a 100-point deficit to a 300-point deposit with four DNFs along the way. To me, it was one of the hardest fought comebacks that we’ve had, and I’m really proud of my guys for that. After that, it says there’s nothing my guys can’t do.”

Madden Closes Out Bad Boy Off Road World Finals On Top

CONCORD, N.C. – October 30, 2016 – After a hard fought weekend from Chris Madden it all paid off on the final night of the season finale when his No. 44 machine found its way into Victory Lane. Throughout the past three days at the Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals, Madden proved he was a strong contender as he remained in the front of the pack every time he took the track.

“When you’re fast the whole time there’s a little more pressure because you can’t slow it up. It’s not like being slow and trying to get better,” said Madden.

30-drivers from 15 different states across the country took to The Dirt Track at Charlotte for Saturday night’s 50-lap Craftsman Club Feature and it was anything but a Sunday afternoon drive to the grocery store as each driver battled it out from green-to-checkered. Many drivers found their way into the top-10 spots throughout the night and more than a handful danced in the top-5.

Sheppard Breaks Out The Broom

Nothing says champion like sweeping the weekend at The Dirt Track at Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. – October 29, 2016 – Matt Sheppard, the driver of the FX Caprara No. 9s Big Block Modified, made a mark in history this weekend as he broke a record and won his fifth Super DIRTcar Series Championship. Sheppard proved once again that he was the man to beat Saturday night during the Bad Boy Off Road World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“This place was so racy tonight,” said Sheppard in victory lane. “These big blocks put on a heck of a show tonight. We were racing two, three, four wide there. Last time we started on the pole and led the whole race. I was happy to get that win and tonight was even more satisfying. Starting in the back a little bit further and driving through the field. I just can’t say enough about this racecar. It was just fantastic.”

Pat Ward and Justin Haers led the 29-car field to the initial green flag. On the drop of the green, a four-car battle for the lead emerged as Ward, Hears, Brett Hearn, and Billy Decker all ran wire-to-wire – until Haers took the lead and pulled away from the field on lap two.

At A Glance: Caution! Men Working!

Series leaps to Labor Day weekend for final PA stint

CONCORD, N.C. – August 31, 2016 – The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series schedule is dwindling – three more shows ramping up to the coveted Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals in Concord, N.C. But in hindsight, Lernerville Speedway’s Working Man weekend presented by GottaRace.com is no less of a show for the series’ regulars.
With a new racing format coupled with an additional day for the first time in the event’s history, the Working Man presented by GottaRace.com offers drivers a hefty payday on one of late model racing’s largest stages. At the famed 4/10-mile oval, the national tour will ultimately compete against other late model greats on Labor Day weekend for a $20,000 purse – twice as much as last year’s amount.
The Outlaws will revisit Lernerville for the second time this season. Though the Outlaws lost the battle at the crown-jeweled Firecracker 100 finale, they have since won 16 out of the last 17 events. Last year’s Rookie of the Year Brandon Overton won an emotional preliminary show during the Firecracker 100 weekend, and he is confident to double-up on his successes September 2-3.
