Schatz Secures the Sweep at Vegas

Abreu and Schatz battle in the closing laps
LAS VEGAS – March 10, 2017 – In front of a nearly packed grandstand, local fans and beyond witnessed an exciting performance from one of the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series’ most elite drivers, Donny Schatz. Not only were members of the Nellis Air Force Base in attendance to witness their racing heroes fly around The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but the drivers were also racing on the fast-action track as a salute to America’s servicemen and women in the final night of the FVP Outlaw Showdown.
Schatz not only won his 11th series race at the half-mile, but also swept the event. Schatz doubled his $15,000 purse from the opener, collecting a total of $30,000 in winnings at Vegas. The North Dakota native was awarded the “Badlands Bonus” for both shows, as well as a gold-toned tool set commemorating Craftsman Tool’s 90th anniversary. He also took a pair of slot-machine trophies home to Fargo, N.D., one for each of his victories. Since the season opener in mid-February, Schatz has won five of the first six shows in 2017 – a personal best to start a World of Outlaws season.
“All I can say is, I finally got to ‘Park It,'” said Schatz in front of a roaring crowd. “We had something happen there in the mid-part of the race – I just couldn’t get into rhythm. I tried to get through lapped traffic and Rico [Abreu] obviously got by us there on the restart. I got in good position to get out front and had clear track after that. It’s been tricky here, but if it was easy then it wouldn’t be fun for any of us. I was a little nervous when he got by. Every time I get into this car, it’s unbelievable.

Schatz Slips by to Win at Vegas

Rico Abreu battles his way from the back to finish on the podium

LAS VEGAS – March 9, 2017 – As the sun sank below The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday night, a cool breeze drifted through a near-capacity crowd. Specifically, on the half-mile course, the intense crosswinds from the track were the product of 42 World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series winged-sprints. The No. 15 Tony Stewart-Curb/Agajanian Racing car of Donny Schatz was the fastest in the field, taking the first night of the FVP Outlaw Showdown.

Schatz earned his 10th career series win at the track, which has hosted the tour for 20 years sporadically. The stop marks the series’ fifth consecutive multi-day event at the track, which is an extension of its 36 total appearances since 1996. Schatz’s first victory came in 1999.

“If it wasn’t for this Stewart-Curb Racing team, we wouldn’t be up here so hats off to them,” said Schatz with his team looking-on in victory lane. “They worked their tails off all winter long and it’s getting better.”

‘Badlands Bonus’ Up for Grabs at Las Vegas and Badlands Motor Speedway

A $20,000-dollar bonus to be divided to the winners of the FVP Outlaw Showdown and Outlaw FanFest

LAS VEGAS – March 9, 2017 – The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series winners’ pockets just got a little deeper. A $5,000 prize – the “Badlands Bonus” sponsored by Badlands Motor Speedway – was just added to the winners’ take for the FVP Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Winners who take a trip down Victory Lane from the FVP Outlaw Showdown will each win an additional $5,000 and make them eligible to double the amount from the Outlaw FanFest at Badlands Speedway.

Any driver that is competing at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas from March 9-10 will be eligible for not only the “Badlands Bonus” sponsored by Badlands Motor Speedway, but also to win an additional $5,000 bonus July 1-2. To double-up, a driver must win one of the two feature events during the Outlaw FanFest at Badlands Motor Speedway. If a driver sweeps all four shows, they will win a grand-prize of $20,000.

“We wanted to give the drivers a little extra incentive while out here in Las Vegas,” said Chuck Brennan of Badlands Motor Speedway. “We’re looking forward to opening the doors at Badlands Motor Speedway for six special events this season and give the drivers a little extra spending money and put bragging rights on the line.”

At A Glance: Sides Seeks for the Up-Side at Vegas

Will try for his first career series win at the fast-action half-mile

CONCORD, N.C. – March 6, 2017 – Though they are vastly different in entertainment, there is a distinct similarity between the alluring Las Vegas, Nev. strip and The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway less than 20 miles down the road. For “Double Down” Jason Sides, the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series FVP Outlaw Showdown is a matter of defeating the odds for the ever-coveted $10,000 jackpot.

Since 2013, Sides has recorded four top-five performances in eight shows. Specifically in 2013, Sides finished runner-up in both shows. He has yet to win an event at Vegas in his 14 years with the series, which is a reason why he will “gamble a little more” to lead the pack into the checkers.

“There’s just something about [the track],” Sides said. “We always have done well there. We can always run the bottom though the top is there too. We seem to be quicker on the bottom, and if you can get around the bottom you should be good. We always love coming to Vegas for the racing and the atmosphere.”

Las Vegas a Learning Experience for Reutzel

CLUTE, Texas (March 10, 2016) – Aaron Reutzel got his first taste of The Dirt Track at Las Vegas last weekend with two nights of World of Outlaws competition as well as a round of non-wing USAC Sprint Car action.

It was a weekend of learning aboard Shane Liebig’s No. 55 Triple-X Sprint Car that culminated with a 14th place finish in Friday’s Las Vegas finale while a broken wheel center dug too much of a hole in the No. 0 wingless Sprinter fielded by Glenn Styres and Jack Yeley.

“Vegas was good, we’re still getting used to everything,” Reutzel commented of the weekend in the Liebig No. 55.  “We made a lot of progress out there, made a lot of gains.  I’m looking forward to racing with him more this year.”

LAS VEGAS — March 4, 2016 — Donny Schatz fell out of the top five on the initial start of the FVP Outlaw Showdown presented by Dollar Loan Center on Friday night at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas, but he battled his way back to the front and took the lead with four laps remaining to score his second World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

The seven-time and reigning series champion improved on his finish of seventh on the opening night of the double-header at Las Vegas.

“This race team needs to be standing here taking the credit for this win, they are incredible,” the Fargo, N.D.-native said. “I know I am probably the hardest guy in the pit area to work for. They demand a lot out of me and I try to give them my best.”

Inherits lead with ten laps left en route to capturing first win of the year

LAS VEGAS — March 3, 2016 — Brian Brown led the way early in Thursday night’s FVP Outlaw Showdown presented by Dollar Loan Center at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas, but after some bad luck for Brown, Joey Saldana seized the lead and scored his first World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series victory of the season.

The win is the first for Saldana with his new team, Roth Motorsports, and for newly minted crew chief Eric Prutzman.

“I haven’t been doing very good as a driver lately,” Saldana said. “Tonight it was all about staying patient and not doing anything stupid, and I didn’t make any mistakes so we are standing here on the front straightaway.”

Shane Stewart Leads Larson Marks to First Win of 2015 at FVP Outlaw Showdown

Stewart’s win makes him the fourth different winner in four races so far this season

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – March 4, 2015 – Shane Stewart became the fourth different driver in four World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series races to park his car in victory lane following his win at Wednesday night’s FVP Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Stewart battled Brian Brown throughout the feature. As the laps wound down and the two cars worked through several cautions and lapped traffic, Brown gave Stewart and his Go-Pro/Eneos team a run for its money.

“It’s so hard to dictate your speeds sometimes when you get to the lapped cars,” Stewart said. “I thought the one caution when I was in heavy lapped traffic – I didn’t think that helped me, I thought it was going to hurt me.”
