L.W. Miller holds championship lead heading into Caraway

NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver L.W. Miller is likely to have a few sleepless nights over the course of the next two weeks as the final two races of the season are set to be settled.

The reason the Mooresville, N.C., driver will be a bit worried is because he is the current Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship leader with a 55-point cushion over second-place Tim Brown. L.W. Miller is 77 points ahead of Burt Myers in third and 101 points ahead of two-time and defending Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion Junior Miller in fourth.

Tim Brown wins Saturday night at Southern National Raceway Park

Kenly, NC — NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver Tim Brown has been on a roll as of late, scoring his second win in the last 12 days in convincing fashion on Saturday night at Southern National Raceway Park.

It was Brown’s third career Whelen Southern Modified Tour win – and second of the 2007 season – by a three second margin over runner-up Frank Fleming.

“I tell you what – I love this race track,” Brown said. “Last year when we came here we were real good and had a shot at both the win and the championship until a lapped car got in our way. This race was a lot like Ace a few days ago because we had them covered. We knew we had the car to beat when we unloaded it. About five laps into the race I knew we had something for them and we did.

Junior Miller hoping to gain lost ground at Southern National

Two-time and defending NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion Junior Miller isn’t used to being in the position of having to play catch-up as far as the title race is concerned.

Yet heading into Saturday night’s Southern National 150 at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, N.C., ‘The King of the Southern Modifieds’ is in the position of being on the outside looking in as to whether he can win his third straight Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship. Junior Miller is currently fourth in the standings and 106 points behind current championship leader L.W. Miller (no relation) with only three races remaining.

L.W. Miller extends championship lead with Saturday night win at Caraway

Miller didn’t win the 2007 championship on Saturday night at Caraway Speedway, but the Mooresville, N.C. resident took a big step forward to reaching his title hopes thanks to his victory in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150.

It was L.W. Miller’s fifth win of the season and his fifth straight victory at Caraway dating back to last season. The victory allowed L.W. Miller to pad his Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship lead with only three races remaining.

L.W. Miller Hoping to Carry Momentum into Caraway

nwsmt.jpgDaytona Beach, FL — The drivers and teams of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will enjoy a little break before getting right back to racing with Saturday night’s 150-lap event at Caraway Speedway.

The Whelen Southern Modified Tour is two races into a three-race run that spans just seven days.

The journey began on Saturday at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in a combination race with the Whelen Modified Tour and followed with Monday’s 150-lapper at Ace (N.C.) Speedway.Now the Whelen Southern Modified Tour is awaiting a return to racing action at Caraway in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150.

Tim Brown scores Monday victory at Ace Speedway

Altamahaw, NC  - NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver Tim Brown scored the victory on Monday afternoon in front of a packed grandstand at Ace Speedway for his first win of the 2007 season.

Brown led the final 82 laps and beat second place driver L.W. Miller by more than half a second.

It was Brown’s second career Whelen Southern Modified Tour victory and it came before an emotional pit crew that consists of several family members.

New Southern Modified Tour championship trophy unveiled at Bowman Gray

Winston-Salem, NC — Officials with NASCAR and Whelen Engineering were on hand Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium as the new championship trophy for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour was unveiled.The unique trophy was presented just before the drivers’ introduction for the Advance Auto Parts 199.
