White Mountain Bringing the Thunder With Doubleheader Weekend

N. Woodstock, NH — North Woodstock, NH’s White Mountain Motorsports Park is getting an early start on its Memorial Day celebration with a doubleheader this Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23. The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, GoMotorsportsShop.com NELCAR Legends Tour, and Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini Special headline a seven-division card of “Thunder in the Mountains”.

Rather than wait until the Memorial Day weekend, White Mountain is bringing the thunder now. From Super Late Models to 4-cylinder racers, full-fenders stock cars to Modifieds, there’s something for everyone at the two-day spectacular.

The action kicks off Saturday, May 22 at 6:00pm with four unique auto racing classes. The Strictly Stock Minis, the track’s entry-level “adult” division, step into the spotlight with their annual 50-lap special. Between established veterans and young stars, a lot of talent will be on display at Saturday’s event. Teenagers like Tyler Thompson, Luke Shannon, and Jillian Baumgardner take on reigning champion Brett Jackson, Jack Hayes, Tim Corey and others who’ve found a place to race on a budget.

The NELCAR Legends Tour is making their first White Mountain visit of the year on Saturday, Luke LeBrun has won the first two NELCAR events in 2021, but Colby Meserve, Frankie Sweeney, Trevor Krouse, and others are trying to chase him down. The layout of White Mountain is perfect for these small cars driven by people with nerves of steel.

The local Foley Oil & Propane Late Models and Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers complete the card. Both divisions are currently paced by Thunder Road regulars getting some extra racing in before their track’s next event. Danville, VT’s Tyler Cahoon (Late Models) and Waterbury Center, VT’s Jason Woodard (Flying Tigers) have been hot to trot against tough competition.

There are plenty of other racers to watch. In the Late Models, Candia, NH’s Alby Ovitt is second in points with a brand-new team, followed closely by last week’s winner Jimmy Renfrew Jr. Conversely, Stacy Cahoon and Quinny Welch — who’ve won a combined 14 White Mountain championships — are off to slow starts and need a quick boost. In the Flying Tigers, Barton, VT’s Shane Sicard looks ready to challenge for a fourth straight title while rookies Tanner Woodard and Chandler Potter have already shown they belong in the ranks.

Sunday, May 23 at 1:30pm, the power turns up a notch. The PASS Super Late Models are making their first visit of the year to White Mountain for a 150-lap event. It will be a tune-up for the PASS National Championship event in mid-July featuring the region’s best racers.

The entry list includes multi-time PASS champions Johnny Clark, D.J. Shaw, Ben Rowe, and Travis Benjamin along with ARCA Menards Series standout Derek Griffith and young gun Gabe Brown. Fan will also want to keep an eye on 17-year-old Kate Re, who broke out with a third-place result at Lee USA Speedway this past weekend. It was the best finish ever for a female in a PASS Super Late Model event.

Sunday’s card includes 50-lap features for the PASS Modifieds and Open Street Stocks. The PASS Modifieds have surged this year with big fields and dynamic action. Point leader Tyler King will have to contend with Shawn Knight, A.J. Cates, Max Cookson, and other emerging open-wheel stars.

The $1,000-to-win Street Stock Open is one of the weekend’s most intriguing events. The ACT Flying Tigers have been given the green light to compete against the 8-cylinder Street Stocks with slight modifications. Well-known Tiger racers like Jason Woodard, Matt Potter, and Tanner Woodard are planning to take on Ed Flanagan Jr. of Warwick, RI, Jim Zullo II of Claremont, NH, and other open-compers in a prelude to the $5,000-to-win Street Stock Open on September 25.

The White Mountain Motorsports Park doubleheader weekend begins Saturday, May 22 at 6:00p. A 50-lap special for the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis headline a card that includes the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers, and GoMotorsportsShop.com NELCAR Legends Tour.
