NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour Notes: Torco Challenge of Champions Notes

Flemington, NJ – The 21st race of the 1997 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour, the Torco Racing Fuels Challenge of Champions, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, at Flemington Speedway in Flemington, NJ.– Time trials are scheduled for 11:45 am. The top 30 cars will advance with the remainder of the 36-car starting field to be made up of provisional starters. The top 6, 8 or 10 qualifiers will draw for starting position in the 250-lap race.

– This will be the fifth series race to be held at Flemington and second, of two, this season. George Kent was the winner of the first series race held in 1991. Doug Hoffman recorded his only career win in 1992. Jan Leaty was the winner of the inaugural 250-lap Challenge of Champions last October. Mike Stefanik won the Flemington 150 in June.

– The series qualifying record at Flemington is 136.289 mph (16.509 seconds) set by Tim Connolly on 6/7/97.

– Ten drivers have competed in all four series races at Flemington. They are: Tim Arre, Tom Baldwin, S.J. Evonsion, Tony Ferrante, Jr., Eddie Flemke, Rick Fuller, Jan Leaty, Reggie Ruggiero, Mike Stefanik and Jamie Tomaino.

– Jan Leaty is the only driver who has finished in the top-5 in all four Flemington races.

– As of Sept. 29, 42 different teams have filed entries for the Flemington 150.

– 99 different drivers have attempted to qualify for at least one NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour race this season.

– There have been 142 lead changes this season on the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour for an average of 7.1 per race.

– Tim Connolly leads the season Busch Pole standings with 7 poles. Mike Stefanik currently has 5. Stefanik is not scheduled to qualify his car at Thompson, CT on Oct. 18, so he must win the Busch Pole at Flemington to remain alive for the season Busch Pole Award championship.
