Boisvert, Robinson, Brown Tops In Fast Friday Series

seekonk1white.jpgSeekonk, MA — Uxbridge, MA veteran Mark Boisvert, SYRA’s all-time win leader Chris Robinson of West Warwick, RI, and rookie front-runner Tim Brown of Norton, MA posted top honors in the Fast Friday Series of events at Seekonk Speedway on July 27.

Boisvert’s Mill Street Auto Parts #47 Ford started on the pole in the 25-lap Kraze’s Speed Equipment Pure Stock feature and led every circuit to earn the win, the driver’s third career victory and first of the season at the Cement Palace.  Point leader Bill Chouinard started last but was inside the top three in a flash, passing Scott Cestodio for third on lap 3, trailing only Boisvert and John A. Robidoux’s #39.

While battling for third, heat winner John Robidoux was turned around by Cestodio in turn three, who was, in turn, sent around by John A. Robidoux, necessitating the lone caution flag of the race.  John A. Robidoux passed his step-son, Chouinard, for second on lap 7 while rookie Steve Cromwell led the charge from the outside lane, taking third on lap 8, one circuit before losing the spot to two-time winner Amy Arsenault, who had started eleventh.

John Robidoux, meanwhile, sliced his way back inside the top five with a notable three-wide maneuver around Bob Hinckley and Cromwell, just before Chouinard passed John A. Robidoux for second on lap 13.  Cromwell spun into the grass while battling to retain a top five spot inside the final go-arounds, while the younger Robidoux’s #93 cracked the top three.

At the finish, Boisvert crossed the line 0.902 seconds ahead of point leader Chouinard to claim the victory.  Son and father Robidoux were third and fourth with Arsenault in fifth.  Cestodio bounced back to finish sixth, ahead of rookies Bob Hinckley, Randy Morettu, Tom Blackwell, and Steve Cromwell.

The 25-lap Seekonk Youth Racing Association 750-restrictor plate feature was an action-packed race with four different leaders and plenty of three-wide action.  When the dust settled, 15 year-old Robinson had notched his fifth win of 2007 and 23rd career checkered flag.  Kyle Kuchta paced the first half of the event with Dylan Estrella, Brian Como, Jr., Brian Mondeau, and Chris Robinson comprising the balance of the top five in the early going.

Robinson gradually worked his way up to second, passing Estrella on lap 11 before setting his sights on Kuchta.  While racing for the lead, the pair made contact coming out of turn two on lap 12, bringing out the lone yellow of the event.  Estrella inherited the pole, but was overtaken on the restart by a hard-charging Matt Burke, who had come from eighth to second in the Emjay Racing #55.  Capitalizing on the restart, Robinson went three-wide when the green was unfurled, and sat second with 10 laps to go.

Robinson stalked Burke for several circuits before powering into first on lap 20.  Kuchta paced his way back to third by the time the checkers flew, with Mondeau and Como earning fourth and fifth.

Six cautions and 39 minutes after the initial green waved in the 600-restrictor plate main, 15 year-old Timmy Brown emerged victorious in the Norton Hot Dog #2.  A series of single and multi-car spins stalled the proceedings inside the first five laps with Kaitlyn Donovan leading the initial circuits.  Brown, who started ninth, had closed to third by lap 2 and moved to the inside of Donovan to claim first the next time around.

Adam Swift maneuvered his way into second on lap 6, passing Jake Spillers for the spot, while Derryck Anderson, Jr. and Nick Ladyga followed closely.  Anderson was turning the fastest laps and used the outside lane to reach second on lap 8, but a persistent mechanical problem forced him pitside several times during the lengthy caution periods.

By the halfway point, Brown and Spillers were entrenched in first and second, pacing a pair of door-to-door duels between Chris Igo and Ladyga, and Swift and Anderson.  Igo and Ladyga locked horns to bring out the final caution, but Spillers was unable to overtake Brown on the final side-by-side restart.  In the end, Brown scored a decisive victory over Spillers, who earned a career-best second.  Adam Swift was third, followed by Ladyga, and Carl Medeiros.  For his charge through the field in the 750-class, Burke was awarded the Ultra Flex Racing Products $50 savings bond award.
