Waterford Speedbowl is Site of 2008 ISMA Opener on May 24th

Oswego, NY – The ISMA Super Series is in the final preparation stages for their first race of the season on Saturday May 24 at the Waterford Speedbowl. Last year was Chris Perley’s season as he started 2007 with a win and ended it with a win, sandwiching 9 other feature victories in between. Lou Cicconi won the ISMA inaugural at the Connecticut oval while Justin Belfiore picked up the 50-lapper in 2006. While Perley has dominated the win column for the past two years, he’ll be the first to admit the opener is anyone’s ballgame.

This season should see another stellar field coming to the “Bowl” with not only Perley ready and willing to win, but also a slew of others, some who have been knocking hard on The Rowley Rocket’s back door.

Motivated Cabral Romps At The ‘Bowl

Waterford, CT — Randy Cabral may have missed his calling. Now two-for-two after a dominating performance in the Northeastern Midget Association 25-lap feature Saturday night at Waterford Speedbowl, he should consider motivational speaking. He’s good at finding reasons to win.

Grabbing the lead from Joey Payne Jr. on a lap two restart, Cabral absolutely ran away in the Bertrand #47.  Only a yellow with 12 to do delayed Cabral’s rush to victory.  He again powered away from Payne. His time for lap 16 was a sizzling 12.742 seconds.

Scully, Jr. Bests Pro Stocks For Opening Night Seekonk Win

Seeekonk, MA — Second generation ace Tom Scully, Jr. of Cranston, RI led the list of Opening Night winners at the 1/3-mile Seekonk Speedway oval on Saturday night May 10, capturing the 40-lap Pro Stock feature in the Subway of Seekonk-East Coast Collision-Dr. Feelgood Limousines #2 Chevrolet.  Rookie Ryan Vanasse led the first two circuits before a hard-charging Kenny Spencer rocketed past via the outside.  Spencer maintained his advantage through a pair of early cautions while Fred Astle, Jr. worked his way forward from sixth.  Astle was strong in the high groove, passing Scully, Jr. for second on lap 8 and edging past Spencer to lead the 10th go-around.

Spencer battled back on lap 11, and soon Astle and Scully were locked in a heated exchange for second.  The pair made contact on lap 13, and Astle spun around in turn three and was forced to restart from the tail.  Veteran Joe Cerullo snatched second from Scully on a lap 16 restart, but went around in turn one battling for position the next time by, moving the two-time defending champ David Darling to third.
