The American-Canadian Tour Late Models return to the southernmost race track in New England, Connecticut’s Waterford Speedbowl, with Saturday’s Nutmeg State 100. In two previous appearances at the racy 3/8-mile, Brent Dragon and “Rocket” Roger Brown were the victors. Brown’s victory came in 2004, the last visit to the shoreline speedplant.
Since then, a pair of young drivers have made it clear that the next time ACT visits their house, they’ll be heard from. Timmy Jordan, of Plainfield, CT, has scored 12 wins and more than 30 top-fives at Waterford since beginning his Late Model career… two years ago. In fact, in 2006, Jordan won the Rookie of the Year title and the Track Championship.

Thunder Road leftovers and other things…
With the spring portion of the 2008 schedule, Lee, Monadnock, Waterford , and Thunder Road , in the books, it comes as no surprise defending champion, Kirk Alexander, has three wins to start the new campaign. What has been a pleasant surprise is the emergence of David Pinkham and car owner Tom Greeley as viable candidates for a championship. As the tour heads to Seekonk June 14 to start the summer schedule, Pinkham enjoys a 24 point lead over Alexander. Kirk opted out of the Waterford show because of predicted rain. Pinkham won that one to put him atop the standings. Additionally, Chris Pasteryak and Mike Holdridge wrap up May in third and fourth spots with only four points separating them. 06 champ Dwight Jarvis sits fifth.

Ruskin, FL — The family of three quarter midget racer Fred Stutz has scheduled his viewing for 2-8 p.m. June 5 here at the Lewers Funeral Home, 308 College Avenue E.
Stutz, 79, of Riverside, had died of complications from an accident he had suffered while running his TQ midget at Punta Gorda’s Charlotte County Motorsports Park May 13. The five-decade-long driver had been a long-time Florida Midget Auto Racing Association member since moving to Central Florida from the New York City area.
