Buffington And Moran Among Speedbowl Wild n’ Wacky Wednesday Winners

Waterford, CT — Fresh from a four-year racing hiatus, Shaun Buffington celebrated his return by notching the 20-lap Legends feature at the Waterford Speedbowl Wednesday evening.

Other main event winners were Greg “Magic Man” Moran (Super X Car), John Bowes (X Car), and Dean Christensen (X Modified).

Buffington passed Max Zachem 8-laps into the event. No cake-walk, the winner had to contend with the advances of teammate Thomas Gray in the closing circuits. At the flag, it was Buffington prevailing by less than a fender. Following Gray was Jason Palmer, Zachem, and George Whitney. The race was red-flagged on lap-2 when John Beatty flipped violently in a turn-4 accident involving several others. Though his car suffered severe damage, Beatty emerged unscathed.

Greg “Magic Man” Moran passed Charles Beal on a lap-4 restart, going-on to win the 20-lap Super X-Car feature in dominating fashion. Said an emotional Moran from victory lane; “This win is dedicated to my mother who passed-away in October. This is all for her.”

In 20-lap X-Car action, John Bowes passed early leader Wayne Shifflett, going on to record a commanding victory. “The key tonight was getting good restarts, and we were especially good at it tonight,” said Bowes. “It’s a very competitive field in this division, and you can’t afford not to be on-top of your game.” Completing the top-5 was Patrick Williams, Curt D”Addario, “Bad Brad” Voglesong, and Steve Violette.

Checking-out from the field early in the X-Modified 20-lapper was Dean Christensen. The winner’s secret to victory? “We decided to try something different this week and didn’t wash the car,” stated Christensen laughingly. “I think we’ll have to try this more often, but it’s difficult as my crew really likes to keep the car nice and shiny.” Following was defending champion Richard “Bubby” Brouwer, Wayne Arute, Anthony Burr, and Kevin Shea.

Justin Doss won the 10-lap Legends Semi-Pro feature.  In the Wild N’ Wacky “Ice Cream Relay Race”, the team of X-Car driver Heather Smalls and youngster Anna Lia prevailed.

Once again, there were over 100 teams signed into the pits.
