Action Heating Up at Seekonk Speedway

Seekonk, MA — As the weather starts to cool, the action is heating up at Seekonk Speedway.

As the summer starts to dwindle down, the excitement is hitting its hottest level of the season. With only four weeks remaining on the 63rd season at the Action Track of the East, fans can look forward to all kinds of events. This weekend, the True Value Modifieds come to town for their second of three events on the schedule. With Lisbon CT native Chris Pasteryak leading the points for the open wheel modifieds, this event will have an effect on the season long championship run.

One driver trying to play spoiler in that chase is Swansea’s Vinny Annarummo. Known as”Vinny Who?” Annarummo is a six time Seekonk Speedway Champion, who has won four of the last six modified events at, what he calls, His House. Front runners Kirk Alexander, Les Hinckley, mike Holdridge, Dwight Jarvis, and a host of others will take on some of the locals running part time in the True Value events at Seekonk. They include Pro Stock standouts Ken Spencer and Matt Hudon.

The Late Models, Street Stocks and Seekonk Sport Trucks will be part of the racing card for this night. The Seekonk Sport Trucks will be running a 30 lap main event also.

Admission for this event is $17.00 for adult admission, with kids 12 and under, FREE. Gates open at 3pm, with qualifying slated for 6pm.

On Sunday, August 31, come down and celebrate Labor Day Seekonk Speedway Style. With their ever popular thrill show on tap, this will be the place to be. The Spectator Drags will start the action at 5pm, as drivers off the street, in their everyday cars, compete one on one for the grand prize. It’s a one lap shootout, until there are just two daredevils left. There will also be Pure Stock action. Part of our Fast Friday series, the Pure Stocks are the entry level class of racing at the ‘Konk. There will be Enduro racing, Enduro Drags, Trailer racing, the World Famous Figure-8 racing, one of the finest fireworks displays this side of the Pacific, and finishing off the nights events will be our renowned Demolition Derby.

Gates open at 2pm, and the action starts at 5. Adult admission is only $20.00, with kids 12 and under, just $5.00. New safety guidelines in effect include the restrictions on the following: No glass, cans, alcohol, or umbrellas. The only style chair allowed will be the stadium style clip on seats. There will also be no re-entry.

Saturday action continues on Saturday September 6th, as Phil’s Propane presents the Phil’s Propane 50, a 50 lap main event for the Late Models. One of the most anticipated events of the season for the Late Models, the drivers will be gunning for the extra $500.00 to win this event. Outside competitors are expected for this event, which will have heavy point’s championship implications. The Pro Stocks, Street Stocks and Seekonk Sports Trucks are scheduled for this event.

We take a step back in time, as the memories return to the speedway on Saturday September 13th. The New England Antique Racers and the Senior Tour Auto Racers come back to one of the most storied racetracks in the country on this Saturday Night. See the cars that took the stars of yesteryear around the speedway. Who knows, you may even see the stars themselves come out for this nostalgic event. The Pro Stocks, Late Models, Street Stocks and Seekonk Sport Trucks will be on hand as well.

We round out the 2008 points season on Saturday, September 20th. The 63rd seasonal champions will be crowned in all four Saturday classes on this final Saturday night of racing. Current points leaders Fred Astle Jr of Westport, Gerry DeGasparre Jr of Pawtucket, Sparky Arsenault of Attleboro and Mike Cavallaro of Seekonk lead their divisions with only four events left on the schedule. The Pro Stocks only have three races left, as they are off on Saturday, August 30.

Our Fast Friday series returns to action also for the final three weeks of the season on September 5th. The Seekonk Youth Racing Association and the Pure Stocks headline this night of action. There is also Kart racing on hand. The NEMA light class, an entry level division for the open wheel midgets, under the North East Midget Association will join the Fast Friday schedule on Friday, September 12th. These are the stars of the future that compete on Friday nights.

Admission for Fast Fridays is just $5.00 for adults and kids 12 and under is FREE. September Saturday admission is $12.00 for adults and kids 12 and under, is FREE.
