NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour News & Notes – New Hampshire

New Hampshire Also Key To Modified Title Chase

This Sunday the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire will be the first of 10 races in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. For the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, with just five races left on the schedule, a good finish by title contenders in the New Hampshire 100 on Saturday will be equally important.

The last time the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour cranked it up at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the finish was so close that the winner had to be confirmed by video analysis. Chuck Hossfeld edged Ted Christopher by 0.001 seconds to capture the New England 100. As the series returns to Loudon, N.H., for the final time in 2008, it is only fitting that the two are locked in a points battle that could turn one way or the other on Saturday.

Championships Coming Down to the Wire at Thompson

Thompson, CT — Three events remain on the Thompson International Speedway schedule before division champions are crowned. Valuable track points will be awarded during Thursday night race programs through September 25th. Few expect a champion in any of the six NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions to be determined before that date.

Kerry Malone, the veteran Sunoco Modified driver from Needham, MA, has a mere twelve point advantage over Todd Ceravolo going into the final three points races. Danny Cates is only twenty points off the leader and Jimmy Blewett, winner of the last two events, is but thirty points away from the top spot. With fifty points up for grabs to the winner, the race for the Sunoco Modified title is still very much up for grabs.
