Statistical Advance: Analyzing The CARQUEST Fall Final At Stafford Motor Speedway

Daytona Beach, FL — The fourth and final stop for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway will take place this weekend with the rescheduled CARQUEST Fall Final.

At Stafford Motor Speedway:

  • Since the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour formed in 1985, there have been 89 races at Stafford Motor Speedway.
  • There have been 28 different race winners at SMS, led by Mike Stefanik’s 19 victories.
  • There have been 34 different pole winners at SMS, led by Stefanik’s 14.
  • Ted Christopher, Chuck Hossfeld and Jimmy Blewett have reached Victory Lane in the first three races at Stafford in 2008.
  • Christopher had the longest win streak in the history of the NWMT at SMS with four-straight victories from Sept. 30, 2001 to Aug. 23, 2002.
  • No driver has swept every NWMT event at SMS during a calendar year … Reggie Ruggiero (1987), Stefanik (1990, 1997, 1998) and Christopher (2002) have won three races in the same year.

World Series to Bring Out the Very Best

Thompson, CT — The 35th annual edition of the XTRAMART World Series of Speedway Racing will, once again, bring out the very best race teams for an incredible three-day, fourteen division race weekend. The event, the biggest of its kind found anywhere in the country, will be held at the Thompson International Speedway the weekend of October 17-19, 2008.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will share the top billing with the incredible winged Super Modifieds of ISMA. The mighty Midgets of NEMA will also play a major role when they take to the high banks at Thompson. In all, fourteen different divisions of race cars and trucks will participate in this annual racing extravaganza that attracts literally hundreds of competitors and thousands of race fans.

McKennedy Does It Again Winning Lee Modified Race

Lee, NH — For the second time in two weeks, Chelmsford, MA., driver Jon McKennedy started deep in the field and came on to win the True Value Modified Racing Series “Oktoberfest 100″ Sunday afternoon, Oct 5, at Lee USA Speedway, Lee, NH. McKennedy, who started 23rd in a 25 car field, passed race leader Jimmy Kuhn on a lap 96 re-start to go on and score the win.

The victory was his second this season and his third career win with the New England based racing series. McKennedy pulled off the same feat at All-Star Speedway, Epping, NH., Sept 20, starting 24th in a 26 car line-up.

Connecticut hot shoes Dale Evonsion and Ed Dachenhausen brought the field to green with Dachenhausen jumping into the lead. Already a winner at Lee this season, Dachenhausen set a fast pace until defending champion Kirk Alexander took over the top spot on lap 19 and quickly appeared to be the car to beat. Alexander driving the famed “Superbeast,” the car that has carried him to a series leading 31 wins, would lead the field until lap 60.

Rocco Scores Bowl Finale, Gada Becomes 7-Time Champion

Waterford, CT — Keith Rocco won the 100-lap SK Modified Town Fair Tire Finale feature at the Waterford Speedbowl on Sunday, while it was Dennis Gada prevailing for a record-breaking seventh modified championship.

Other feature winners were Randy Cabral (NEMA Midgets), Bruce Thomas Jr. (Late Model), Brandon Plemons (Sportsman) and Ken Cassidy Jr. (Mini Stock).

Newburgh, NY — With a 6th place finish in Lee USA Speedway’s Octoberfest and only one race to go Randolph, VT driver Dylan Smith took  a commanding lead in the hunt for the 2008 ALNRS Championship.  For the second race in a row Dighton, MA driver James Logan who held the points lead for the first eight races of season found himself on the outside of the track looking in as his #44 G. Lopes Construction, Bristol County Collision, Bristol County Vactions.com Ford Thunderbird would suffered a ignition failure midway through the feature race relegating him to a last place finish, this after James battled with Dylan during the second ten lap heat race with James coming away with the win by a nose.  Heat race one was won by Washingtonville, NY driver Paul Tuthill in the #88 Interstate Batteries Ford Thunderbird.

Based on their wins in the heat races Tuthill would start on the pole with Logan on his outside. There were three quick cautions during the first ten laps as the #3 driven by Bennington, NH driver Kyle Poodiack would spin his Peterboro Tool Co. Inc. SIS Photography, Chevy Monte Carlo coming off turn four on lap six.  Lap eight would bring out the second caution as the father and son team of Victor and Nathan Johnson of Troy, NH would both spin on the front stretch as they exited turn four. After the restart contact between the #79 After Hours Auto Body, Aggregate Industries, Silver City Spindle Chevy Monte Carlo of Shane D’Agostino of Taunton, MA and the #34 Brookside Customs, Able Mountain Camp Ground Chevy Monte Carlo drive by Dylan Smith would bring out the third caution.
