Alan Provost moves from SK Light Modified Division into Late Model Division at Stafford Speedway for 2009 Season

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway’s Late Model division has long had some of the best full fendered racing action in the Northeast, and the chase for the 2009 Rookie of the Year title should be another hotly contested battle. Alan Provost, formerly of Stafford’s SK Light Modified division, has joined John Kasper, a former DARE Stock competitor, and Adam Gray, the 2008 Monadnock Speedway Late Model champion, on the track’s list of rookies for the 2009 season.

Provost will face the challenge of driving a full fendered car for the first time in his racing career as he makes the move up the Stafford ladder this season. Prior to coming to Stafford in 2007, Provost was a two-time Mod Light champion at the dirt track of Whip City Speedway and his only prior asphalt racing experience was at the go kart level.

“I’ve never driven anything with fenders on it, so this is going to be a big challenge for me,” said Provost. “I started racing in go karts, moved to the Mod Lights at Whip City, and then the SK Light at Stafford. The Late Model division looks super competitive this season, so we’re pretty realistic about our chances this season. We have one car, one engine, and our crew is my father, my uncle, and myself. Our main goal is to keep the car together so we can race every week and have fun while we’re racing. We don’t want to get stressed out about racing. I have to say a big thank you to Don Woods from RaD Automachine, without his help this off-season, we probably wouldn’t be racing this year.”

In two seasons of SK Light Modified racing at Stafford, Provost enjoyed a great deal of success, driving to a victory and a 10th place finish in points during his 2007 rookie season, and one win and a fifth place finish in points last season. With that kind of success on his resume, one might wonder why Provost would make the move up a division, but he says he made the move with an eye towards the future.

“My kids are getting older, and when they are old enough to race, I wanted to have something for them to race that has fenders on it,” said Provost. “With the economy the way it is right now, an excellent opportunity came up for us to be able to sell our SK Light car and purchase a Late Model, so we went ahead and made the switch. We bought a Dodge from Mark Kline and Donny from RaD is working on our engine right now, so we’re looking forward to racing in the Late Model division this season.”

Provost and his team will make their Late Model debut at the 38th Annual Tech-Net Spring Sizzler, scheduled for April 24th through April 26th. Tickets for “The Greatest Race in the History of Spring” are now on sale at the Stafford Motor Speedway box office. Tickets are priced at $35.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, $38.00 for reserved seats, and free for children ages 5 & under.
