A Great Opening Act By TC

Christopher rules Southern Modifieds at Concord

Concord, NC —  Ted Christopher made the trip down south worthwhile Saturday night at Concord Speedway. Christopher passed Burt Myers on the opening lap and led wire-to-wire to win the Capital Bank 150 in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour season opener.

Chistopher, the defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour National Champion, won his third career NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race and the first Tour event held at the half-mile, tri-oval. Christopher’s other two NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour wins came in the 2005 and 2006 season openers.

BMS Officials Announce Sponsor for NASCAR Modified Event

Bristol, TN — Bristol Motor Speedway officials announced today a unique sponsorship for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour combination event Aug. 19.

The University of Northwestern Ohio and its cutting-edge automotive programs will be the title sponsor of the “UNOH Perfect Storm 150,” one of the most anticipated events in the history of modified racing.

“On behalf of the faculty, staff and students at the University of Northwestern Ohio, we are extremely proud and honored to be the entitlement sponsor of the “UNOH Perfect Storm 150″ Inaugural event at Bristol Motor Speedway,” said Dr. Jeff Jarvis, President of UNOH. “Being the very first university in the country to offer a complete High-Performance Motorsports, Associate and Baccalaureate Degree, it is fitting that we should be the first University to sponsor the very best modified event in the country.”

Final Open Practice Before Icebreaker Next Weekend

Thompson, CT — A bright and sunny day offered the perfect combination to bring out “race fever” at the Thompson International Speedway. Race teams converged on the Thompson oval to take advantage of six hours of open practice time offered by the speedway.

Race cars representing seven different NASCAR Whelen racing divisions used the open practice opportunity to fine tune their race cars after off-season updates, improvements, changes and, in some cases, test brand new race cars. In all, over eighty race teams took advantage of the chance to get their cars ready for Thompson’s ICEBREAKER which is only two weeks away.

Myers Banks Pole

Captures 18th career Coors Light Pole Award

Concord, NC — Burt Myers picked a perfect event to get his 18th career Coors Light Pole Award. Myers, who added Capital Bank as a sponsor on the side of this No. 1 Modified, posted the top qualifying time for Saturday’s Capital Bank 150 at Concord Speedway.

Myers’s time of 15.181 seconds around the half-mile tri-oval was good for 118.569 mph. Myers’ record number of poles is 10 more than second-place Tim Brown.

“I feel like Jimmie Johnson at Lowe’s,” Myers said. “We couldn’t be more excited.”
