Beal Goes Back to Back in Super X; Palmer, D’Addario, Rondeau, L. Voglesong Also Winners

Waterford, CT — Charles Beal doubled up the Super X-Car field winning for the second consecutive week in a barnburner 20-lap event, Jason Palmer continued his domination in the Legends Cars, while Curt D’Addario returned to X-Car victory lane.  Brian Rondeau and Lisa Voglesong also won in action from the Waterford Speedbowl on Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday May 20.

It was Bruce Hall (#28) leading the 30 car field down to green for the 20-lap X-Car feature.  Hall would lead until halfway before Curt D’Addario (#68), who started 22nd in the field, would put a move to the outside and took the lead.  Brad Voglesong (#87) was off the pace early and would go laps down, changing the complexion of the event.  Caution waved at lap 13 for Randy Johnston (#11) who spun in turn four.  The restart would cause havoc as multiple cars in the front of the pack, including Hall – the event’s only other leader, were involved in a wreck halting the action for track cleanup.  Two more cautions put the field in D’Addario’s rearview including last week’s winner Patrick Williams (#78).  Williams would not challenge and D’Addario went on to his second win of the season – he also won the opening non-points event during the Budweiser Modified Nationals March 28.

Michael Caprio led from his pole starting spot in the Super X-Car war while the battle from fifth on back raged early, with several lanes of two and three abreast racing action.  The field sorted out and settled in, with last week’s winner Charles Beal making steady progress towards the front.    The young Caprio continued to stretch his lead to a straightaway when Taylor-Marie Moran brought out yellow in turn four at the halfway point.   When racing resumed, Beal moved to Caprio’s bumper with four laps to go before caution reset the field once again.  The pair battled intensely over the final four laps, both drivers putting on an entertaining side-by-side duel that had the fans on the edge of their seats.   In the outside lane Beal prevailed for his second straight win as Caprio got loose enough out of turn four enabling Beal to win by a car length.

In Legends Car action, a healthy 25-car field took the green with Mike Alcaro leading the early laps.  The New Jersey native would make his tow worthwhile distancing himself from the field in impressive fashion, as Palmer and George Whitney were cutting their way through the field.  Palmer was the first to get to Alcaro, taking the lead with an inside move.   Whitney had moved past Alcaro into second when caution waved setting up a restart with three laps to go.  Palmer jumped out to a strong restart; however the red-flag was brought out after several cars including Peter Portante, Ricky White, William Munro, Justin Doss, and Dylan Liseo got together in a scary incident on the frontstretch.  All drivers were ok following the incident and a lengthy cleanup.  Palmer went on to the win over Johnnie Gloor and Tony Flannery who both slipped past Whitney in the closing laps.  Alcaro finished in fifth.

Brian Rondeau won his first career Speedbowl event in the 10-lap X-Modified race.

Lisa Voglesong made a strong late race move to the inside of Kim Parker in turn one to end a great battle in the 10-lap Women on Wheels four-cylinder race.
