Seekonk Speedway gears up for double header weekend

Seekonk, MA — Seekonk Speedway is gearing up for their first double header weekend of their 64th season. On Saturday, the ARC Pro Stocks will highlight a regular Saturday points night at the Action Track of the East with a 40 lap main event. Coming off his first win of the season, Rehoboth’s Dave Darling is the early favorite to pick up his third career Pro Stock crown. Ryan Vanasse will be looking to make it four in a row in Late Model action. After picking up the win in the final two events in 2008, including the DAV Fall Classic, the Rocket is on a Roll. The Seekonk Sport Truck feature came down to last couple of feet as Jody Tripp edged out Rick Martin by .002 to stop Martin’s streak at 3. Both will be trying to outdo the other in their 20 lap feature. The Street Stocks had over 30 cars on hand to compete for 26 starting positions. Tony Oliviera was the top dog in this ever exciting division. Action for Saturday starts at 6pm, with general admission gates opening at 4. Adult tickets are $12.00 each, with kids 12 and under FREE.

On Sunday, The Army National Guard will be on hand to present Seekonk’s World Famous Thrill Show. They will have action on the midway throughout the event, and will be presenting Colors for the National Anthem. Starting time is 5pm, with a chance for all fans to take a turn on the 1/3 mile in the popular Spectator Drags. They are a one on one drag once around the track in street legal cars. The winner will go to the next round, while the loser is done for the evening. NEDrift.com will be on hand to show the East Coast what drifting is all about. They will be competing for prize money, and the results will be voted on by the fans. These are not your every day drivers.

The Pure Stock division will be competing in their second event of the season, as they gear up for their Fast Friday season opener on Friday June 5. This is Seekonk’s entry level full sized class of racing. As close as you can get to “Knock out the glass and go racing” as you can get. Nick Uhrig dominated opening day, and will be trying to make it two in a row on Sunday.

The Enduro Drags have become one of the most popular events, pitting several cars out on the track competing in a one lap shootout. While we don’t encourage contact in the Spectator Drags, this becomes an all out assault on each other. There will also be truck drags under this same format, as we encourage the pickup crowd to join the action. There will be non-stop enduro racing as well, giving amateurs a chance to try out their racing skills in an entry level atmosphere. But don’t get me wrong, it’s not an easy task to navigate through and around cars that are spinning and crashing all around you.

The ever popular Figure-8 event continues the tradition of action, as cars and trucks will compete through the infield, catching serious air as they thunder over the humps on each of the four corners of the infield. The evening will end with their world famous Demolition Derby. As the surface of the speedway becomes a home for carnage and destruction, the lone survivor will be standing tall at the top of the heap.

Catch all of this action and more on Sunday, May 24. Gates open at 2:30 with action starting at 5. Tickets for adults are just $20.00. Be sure to check our website seekonkspeedway.com for out new safety regulations.
