N.C. driver Steven Ross wins Legends event; Norman, Brouwer, Williams also victorious

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl completed another round of Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday racing on a beautiful early summer night for racing. Visiting driver Steven Ross of North Carolina championed the Legends Car event, Robert Norman of Clinton secured his first victory on Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday, while it was points leader Patrick Williams of Middletown winning the X-Car race. Waterford’s Richard “Bubby” Brouwer took the X-Modified race, Preston’s Taylor-Marie Moran won the Women on Wheels event and Andy Carpenter from Massachusetts won in the Bandolero’s.

The Legends Car field came out 26 cars strong in advance of Saturday’s 50-lap national event with Stan Carpenter leading the field to green. Calamity struck on lap one exiting turn two down the backstretch. Multiple cars hopped wheels sliding across the track, but the most severe involved veteran driver Mike Beebe who barrel-rolled several times down the backstretch before his #09 machine came to rest right side up in turn three. Beebe, of Old Saybrook, was shaken up following the incident but was able to walk away.

Cleary Captures Open Wheel Wednesday Checkers

Seekonk, MA — The Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) dished up a thrilling race in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the highly-acclaimed Open Wheel Wednesday show at the “Action Track of the East.” With victory long overdue, the #4 of Cory “The Cub” Cleary found himself atop the leaderboard when the checkers unfurled, collecting his first win of the 2009 season.

The 30-lap main event began with the #11a of Dan Meservey on the pole and Cleary to his outside. The #13 of George Sherman, the #10 of Brian Vincent, and the #83 of Franky Perry rounded out the top five starting positions. At the drop of the green, Sherman went under Meservey as Cleary and Vincent powered by on the outside. When the #34 of Mark Giordano slowed on the frontstretch, the #29 of Matt Sagar also spun, causing the first caution of the event on lap 2. On the restart, Cleary and Vincent made up the frontrow. Meanwhile, towards the back of the pack, the #1m of Norm Wrenn followed the #07x of Robin Berghman as they passed the #07 of Phil Lausier and the #16 of Stan Mertz to advance into the top ten.

Legends Car Series National Event Headlines July 18 ‘Bowl show

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl plays host to a special national Raceceiver Legends Car Series event this Saturday July 18 as part of the Wild ‘n Wacky Saturday race program. The 50-lap event is part of the national schedule for the Series, qualifying the winner with a guaranteed starting spot in the October 8-10 Raceceiver Legends Nationals at Lanier National Speedway in Georgia.

A healthy field of Legends Cars is expected with the starting lineup being set by time trials. Qualifying is set to roll off at 6:15pm. A last chance race will also be scheduled if deemed necessary. The top qualifiers through time trials will redraw to set the starting lineup for the 50-lapper. The event traditionally draws in top Legends competitors from other regions of the Northeast to go up against the Speedbowl’s best.

Johnny Clark Wins PASS Bastille 200 at Lee USA Speedway

Johnny Clark of Hallowell,  ME won the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Model Bastille 200 at Lee USA Speedway on Tuesday night.  Clark outran a hard-charging Louis Mechalides in the closing laps after Mechalides led the most laps from the pole.  Cassius Clark, Matt Frahm and Eddie MacDonald rounded out the top-5.
