Four Races in two Weeks for Thompson’s Sunoco Modifieds

Thompson, CT — It will be a busy two weeks for Thompson Speedway’s Sunoco Modifieds. The track’s premier NASCAR Whelen All American Series division will compete in double feature events on Thursday, July 30th and again on Thursday, August 6th.

The July 30th date will incorporate both the regular weekly 30-lap main for the Sunoco Modifieds plus the postponed 30-lap feature dating back to June 11th. The August 6th twin bill is a change from the single 100-lap race to a twin 50-lap format.

Speedway management made the change in the August 6th date due to the number of events that have been rained out in the first half of the 2009 racing season. “By changing the 100-lap event into two 50-lap races, we give the competitors one more race in their quest for NASCAR Championship points. We feel that we must do whatever we can to assist our top NASCAR division to remain competitive in the chase for national NASCAR points that determine the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion at the season’s end,” said track owner, Don Hoenig.

In spite of all of the inclement weather in New England this season, two of Thompson’s regular competitors find themselves in the top 6 nationally in NASCAR’s points system. Keith Rocco currently occupies the number one position and Ted Christopher is shown in the 6th position in the national standings.

The double headers for the Sunoco Modifieds will be joined by the other divisions that make up the NASCAR Whelen All American Series “Super 6” at Thompson. These next two race dates will set the stage for the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on August 13th. This will mark the second visit this season for the Whelen Modified Tour when the New England Dodge Dealers present the Budweiser 150-lap main event. Tickets for the Whelen Modified Tour event are available by calling the track office at 860-923-2280.

More information on any of these race dates is available on the track’s web site at www.thompsonspeedway.com.
