Myers Does It All for First Tour Title

Wins season finale to claim Whelen Southern Modified crown

Charlotte, NC — Burt Myers led all but one lap in winning the UNOH Southern Slam 150 Thursday night and, in the process, leapfrogged three title contenders to claim the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship.

It’s the first NASCAR touring series championship for the Walnut Cove, N.C., driver. He had finished in the top four in points in four of the previous five years, including a runner-up finish in the tour’s inaugural season in 2005.

This season, the tour’s all-time leader in Coors Light Pole Awards and top fives used a strong run to close out the year with the one honor that has eluded him.

Seekonk Speedway Sets Rules Meeting Dates; 2011 on the Agenda

Seekonk, MA — With the 2010 racing season completed, Seekonk Speedway management is already gearing up for the 66th season at the Cement Palace. Once again, there will be two nights of action in this upcoming year, and this is a chance for all competitors to talk about the rules packages for their class of racers, and for the speedway itself.

The meetings will take place over two nights, and will be held at the American Legion Hall, at 350 Fall River Avenue in Seekonk. This is the same place that the meetings have been held at for the past several seasons. It is just past the Old Grist Mill, across from the Fire Fly golf course.

They will take place on Wednesday, October 27th and Thursday, October 28. On Wednesday, the Pure Stocks will meet from 6:30-7:00pm. From 7:00 to 8:00, competitors from the Sport Truck class will gather, and at 8:00, the Pro Stocks will meet. On Thursday, the SYRA and Sport4 classes will gather together at 6:30-7:30. From then until 8:30, the Street Stocks will meet, with the Late Models going at 8:30.

Coming Up this Weekend: Sunoco World Series

The 2010 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season will come to a close and a champion will be crowned this weekend in the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.

Practice and qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour is slated for Saturday with the race on Sunday. Results for both will be made available at their conclusion. In the meantime, any information surrounding the events throughout the race weekend at Thompson can be found at and

NEAR Annual Movie Party Saturday November 6th

The annual NEAR Movie Party is set for Saturday November 6th at 6:00 P.M. at the Dante Club, 1198 Memorial Ave in West Springfield, Mass. (Across from the Big E Fairgrounds). Tickets are only available at the door at $15.00.

The annual event features Videos and Slide Shows of racing from the past and those that attend always have a good time. For the first time NEAR will also be featuring videos from the Danbury Racearena. Bring something to raffle off to support NEAR’s Hall of Fame.

It is also a good time to bring along photos albums and memorabilia as many drivers and Hall of Famers are among the attendees.

Ticket Renewal Deadline Fast Approaching for the 2011 Season of Speed

Loudon, NH — The 2011 season of speed is fast approaching and so are ticket renewal deadlines for the most action-packed year in the history of New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series drivers will make their first of two appearances on a new date, July 17, in the LENOX Industrial Tools 301, and because of an overwhelming response from race fans the ticket renewal deadline for this event has been extended to Oct. 26.

Joining NASCAR’s elite once again next summer will be the NASCAR Nationwide Series, K&N Pro Series East and the New England favorite Whelen Modified Tour.
