Seekonk Speedway Schedule Set for 2011

Seekonk, MA — Seekonk Speedway officially released the 2011 schedule of events today. Kicking off the 66th season of action will be a double-header of sorts. On Saturday, April 30, the final practice session will be held for all 8 Seekonk divisions.

In addition to the final test session, the 1st Annual Classic Car Show & Go, presented in association with Mass Cruisers and Kraze Korlacki Speed Equipment, will be held in the front lot, beginning at 8am. Classis Cars and Hot Rods will be judged by the Mass Cruisers and trophies will be awarded to the top three in each class.

The Go portion of the show will happen at 1pm, when some of the show cars journey out onto the 1/3 mile oval for a burn out contest. There will also be a 50/50 raffle to benefit Racing Against Cancer. While all of this is going on, there is free admission into the grandstands of the speedway to watch the final practice session for the ARC competitors and the burn out contest.

On Sunday, The Action Track of the East opens their 66th season on their traditional First Sunday of May. This year, May Day will feature the Pro Stocks, Late Models, Sport Trucks and Street Stocks competing for bragging rights and momentum for the upcoming season. They will compete each Saturday night through the month of September, with the 2011 ARC Champions being crowned on September 17.

Some of the highlights of the 2011 season are returning visits by the Valenti Auto Mall Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, PASS Super Late Models and Pro4 Modifieds. The Valenti Auto Mall Modifieds will be making three appearances at The Cement Palace. Their appearances will be on June 11, August 20, and on October 8 & 9, for the DAV Fall Classic, where they will co-headline the weekend with the Pro Stocks in twin 100 lap features.

The NEMA Midgets will be part of the 7th Annual Open Wheel Wednesday, scheduled for July 20. The Pro4 Modifieds will also be in appearance, while an Open Competition Modified main event will feature many of the top modified names in the North East competing for a $10,000 payday. This year has also added lap money for the competitors.

The 3rd Annual PASS 150 is scheduled for August 6th. In the previous two years, Seekonk regulars are undefeated, as Tom Scully Jr and Dave Darling have beaten some of the best Super Late Model drivers in the Northeast.

There are 4 Sunday Thrill Shows, featuring Spectator Drags, Enduro Drags, Enduro racing, Figure 8 racing and more. They will be held on May 29, July 3, July 31, and September 4. The July 3 and September 4 shows will also have Seekonk’s Word Famous Demolition Derby and Fireworks.

The Fast Friday series returns once again, featuring the future of the sport. Headlining the schedule once again will be the Pure Stocks, with the Sport4s and Seekonk Youth Racing Association competing on many Friday nights, starting on June 3.

For the second year, the first Saturday in October will feature the Race Against Breast Cancer night, featuring the world’s fastest short track cars, the ISMA Supermodifieds. Turning the track in the 10 second range, these alcohol breathing ground pounders are a real treat to the schedule.
