CARQUEST Champions for Charities Driver Spotlight: Ted Christopher

Stafford Springs, CT — As the excitement builds for the June 28th CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions for Charities event, Stafford Speedway has been busy coordinating charities and the drivers that will represent them. The field for the CARQUEST Champions for Charities race is impressive, as it represents 42 championships among 12 drivers and 5 different open wheel divisions.

Ted Christopher, Stafford’s all-time winningest driver with 110 feature victories, will continue a relationship that he forged during the 2010 season and will be racing to raise funds for the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative. Last season, Christopher raised $100 for each feature victory and $1 for every lap he completed at Stafford for the CT Breast Health Initiative. With a matching contribution from Stafford Motor Speedway, Christopher was able to raise $4,000, which he presented during the CARQUEST Belts & Hose Pit Party during the CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend festivities. In addition to his CARQUEST Champions For Charities duties, Christopher has plans to once again raise money through his laps completed and feature victories at Stafford during the 2011 season.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Christopher. “We’re going to do the same deal that we did last year with the wins and laps. Everyone was real appreciative of what we were able to do last year and hopefully this year I can win more races than I did last year and raise more money. A friend of my wife’s had breast cancer and she was only 24. Breast cancer is a disease that unfortunately affects a lot of families and we’re trying to help raise money to defeat breast cancer. The great thing about the CT Breast Health Initiative is that all the money we raise is distributed right here in Connecticut.”

The starting lineups for the CARQUEST Champions For Charities qualifying races will be determined by how much money each driver raises for their selected charity. The starting grid will be set with the drivers who have raised the most money starting up front. Fans are encouraged to get involved in the event by donating to their favorite driver or favorite charity. To make a donation to the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative and for more information on the event please refer to the CARQUEST Champions for Charities donation page located at www.staffordspeedway.com. While Christopher has 110 career wins spread over 5 divisions at Stafford, the CARQUEST Champions For Charities event will mark a new segment of his racing career at Stafford. Christopher and the CARQUEST Champions For Charities field will sit behind the wheel of a Wild Thing Senior Outlaw Go Kart and will race around the Stafford Mini-Mile rather than the half-mile that the field of champion drivers is used to navigating when they come to race at Stafford.

CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday will take place on June 28, 2011 and will also feature the ISMA Super Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, and Pro-4 Modifieds. Tickets for CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday are on sale now at the Speedway Box Office and are priced at $30.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
