Speedbowl Cancels May 4 Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday program

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl has cancelled tonight’s scheduled Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday season opening racing program due to weather.

The Speedbowl is scheduled for action two additional nights this week, first with the season debut of “The Show and Go at the ‘Bowl” Friday evening, featuring 100 foot spectator drags and cruise night. The event offers free grandstands admission for all and begins at 6:00pm.

On Saturday, a five-division NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race program including an extra distance Street Stock event is featured. In addition, it will be Suisman Shapiro Little League Night offering free youth admission to all youth in their team jersey. Ten will be selected to participate in the Beaver Bats Home Run Derby and teamed with a Speedbowl competitor to see which pair can hit the most “homeruns” over the Speedbowl fence. Qualifying gets started at 5:15pm and the Home Run Derby is scheduled for approximately 6:00pm. Featuring racing starts at 7:00pm.

ACT Announces NHMS All Star Challenge

Loudon, NH — The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today the criteria and format for the first NHMS – ACT All Star event to be held at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) over the weekend of August 12-13, 2011.

The event will be presented as part of the announced INDY weekend at the region’s largest sporting facility, and only super speedway. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Division will join the ACT Late Models as part of an “ALL STAR” weekend for short track, featuring full-fendered ACT Late Models and the open-wheeled NASCAR Modifieds.

The American Canadian Tour Late Models are the most popular stock car division racing in the Northeast at a premiere weekly level, competing at twelve (12) weekly short tracks in the region, and also on two of the most popular touring series in the northeast: the ACT US Tour in New England and New York, and ACT Serie CASTROL Edge, throughout the Province of Quebec.

Santos Takes Sizzler Win

Stafford Springs, CT) When the 2011 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour started, Bobby Santos at Thompson International Speedway was fastest in practice. He took the Coors Light Pole Award in qualifying. On race day the Mystic Missile team had engine trouble forcing Santos to retire from the race early. Santos came to Stafford looking for victory and the Mystic Missile was back in victory lane.

Doug Coby took fast time in qualifying. The top four cars in qualifying had times of 17.9. For front row on Sunday it was Doug Coby and Todd Szegedy. When the green flag dropped, Santos wasted no time taking the lead. By lap 20, Santos was enjoying a comfortable lead. On Lap 23, Dave Etheridge would pull in behind the wall with an axle problem. On lap 31, Chuck Hossfeld was off the pace as he headed on to pit road. The crew looked over the car as he had engine trouble his day would come to an end. On Lap 42, Santos was getting into some heavy traffic.

On lap 63, Mike Stefanik doing everything he can not to go a lap down to the leader Santos. He did at one point and got his lap back with the Lucky Dog. He would end up finishing 5th.
