Mother Nature Beats Everyone at Thompson

Thompson, CT — The week- long rain storm that has been plaguing New England forced the cancellation of the Thursday Night Thompson Thunder race event for May 19th. The seemingly endless rain and drizzle forced Thompson Speedway management to “pull the plug” on the popular Thursday night race program and to look forward to resuming the series on Thursday, May 26th.

“We wanted to announce the cancellation of tonight’s program early so that fans and competitors alike would have time to change their plans. It’s especially tough on those who travel a long distance to learn of a cancellation when they have already driven half way here. It’s not easy to cancel a program early in the day, but the weather forecast seemed to give us no other option,” said track owner, Don Hoenig.

The next race will be held on Thursday, May 26th and the spotlight will shine on the XTRA/MART Limited Sportsman division. These race teams will face their biggest challenge of the year when they race in their 40-lap feature event. This is the longest race of the season for the XTRA/MART Limited Sportsman and is the one that everyone in the division wants to win. Also in competition will be Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sunoco Modifieds, Super Late Models, Thompson Modifieds, Late Models and Monster Mini Stocks.

Sunday, May 29th is another big night at the Thompson Speedway. That’s the night of the annual Eve of Destruction. David Smith, Jr., the Human Cannonball, will be shot from a cannon. Also known as The Bullet, Smith holds the record for flying higher than any other such performer in the world. 2010 X Games Gold Medalist, Justin Hoyer, will perform his incredible freestyle snowmobile back flip. The fun-filled night will also include Monster Trucks, Street Bikes, Jet Car Mania, Auto Thrill Shows, Demolition Derbies for full-size and 4 cylinder cars, Holeshot Drags, the always popular Trailer Trash Race, Fireworks and more. The track’s midway will be filled with inflatable amusements for youngsters. Gates will open at 1:30 PM and the Eve of Destruction will get underway at 6 PM.

Fans are urged to visit the track’s web site for complete race and Eve of Destruction schedules and admission prices. www.thompsonspeedway.com. Phone calls may also be made to the track office at 860-923-2280.
