Dave Garbo Jr. wins National Legends Tour race at Speedbowl

Waterford, CT — Dave Garbo Jr. captured the National Legends Tour race at the Speedbowl Saturday evening, earning a guaranteed starting position at the Legends Cars Nationals held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway October 27-29. Garbo took the lead on lap-3 from Nick Ladyga and never looked back, surviving four caution periods on his way to victory. Ladyga finished second with Paul Kusheba taking third.

The 50-lap race began with Ladyga leading the way following his victory during qualifying rounds. Garbo immediately was asserting himself for the lead, pressuring Ladyga before racing to his outside. On lap-3 Garbo made the move to Ladyga’s outside. Ladyga settled into second and the race ran clean through lap-11 when Peter Cirilli spun to draw the first caution flag.

On the restart Joseph Parker only made it to turn two before he slammed the wall to keep the race under yellow. Garbo controlled the restart with Ladyga back in second ahead of Dylan Izzo and Kusheba in third and fourth. They ran that way through halfway before caution on lap-26 waved for Kyle Rogers, who had spun in turn four.

Garbo was up to the task on the restart again, resuming his lead. On lap-35, Izzo, who continued to hold third throughout, burst aflame exiting turn two. He stopped his car at the entrance to turn three as the caution flag was quickly displayed to extinguish the flames. Izzo was ok, however was unable to continue after the incident. That pushed Joey Mucciacciaro up to third position and Angelo Belsito was fourth. Kusheba held fifth.

The restart was the final one for Garbo and Ladyga to face off, however Garbo could not be challenged when green flag racing returned. Laydga closed within a car of Garbo but was unable to make a serious bid. Kusheba got around both Belsito, then Mucciacciaro, to move into third behind the top two.

The race ran through to the checkered flag with no further changes. Garbo ran a strong race to finish off the win, the biggest of his brief career. Ladyga placed second with Kusheba, Belsito, and Ed Field completing the top-five.
