Championships On the Line at Thompson’s World Series

Thompson, CT — The World Series of Speedway Racing will once again be more than a spectacular weekend of auto racing. The three-day race fest will determine divisional championships for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, the ISMA Super Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, Pro 4s and the New England Truck Series.

Ron Silk, the current points leader on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, will enter the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Town Fair Tire and XTRA/MART with an advantage of 57 points over Todd Szegedy. Silk will be seeking his first Tour title while Szegedy, the 2003 champion, will be looking for his second. It will all come down to the WMT 150-lap feature event slated for Sunday, October 16th. Both Silk and Szegedy will have plenty of competition as the best drivers on the WMT are expected for the season finale at Thompson.

The ISMA Super Modifieds will also determine a champion at the Sunoco World Series. Russ Wood will be seeking his 7th ISMA title. He leads Mike Lichty by a slim margin in the points going into the Thompson race. Unlike the WMT, the Supers have only 50 laps to sort things out. This should make for another great championship run for the incredibly fast winged Super Modifieds.
