Bobby Pelland, III experienced a breakthrough season at Seekonk Speedway in 2011. The driver of the A&A Auto Parts #12 earned two victories in the Late Models. Pelland steadily improved during the season to notch third place in point standings behind 5-time champion Gerry DeGasparre, Jr. and 2-time champion Ryan Vanasse. “It was a good year and I was happy with our performance and the cars we had every week,” Pelland said. “I could have had a couple more breaks go our way for a better season, but overall I am happy with the results.”
December is normally the heart of the offseason with drivers waiting for their next race in the Spring. Ryan Vanasse and his father had something in the works. A University of Rhode Island freshman, Pelland’s father told him about the Daytona trip while he was studying at school for finals. Daytona’s 2.5-mile oval left an impression on the 18-year-old. “It was unbelievable to race on a track with so much history and prestige,” Pelland said. “The banking was something else too. Also, it was a lot narrower then I had expected so it shows what kind of talent is in NASCAR when they go 3 or 4 wide in the draft.”
Pelland had to adjust to new surroundings – a powerful ARCA race car and by far the biggest race track in his brief career. “It took a lot longer then what I was used to to get up to speed and what not. Also, the not lifting thing was different I thought about it the first turn but I knew I didn't have to so I didn’t and after you did it once it came naturally.” The ARCA car felt comfortable for Pelland. “It’s obviously different but I would have to say the main thing is just the power other then that I did not feel much difference,” Pelland said. “I think on a short track or intermediate where handling matters more you would be able to notice the differences a lot more then Daytona.”

Stafford Springs, CT — After a 2011 season that saw Joe Nogiec and the #00 Adopt a Pet team post a career best 9 top-10 finishes as well as a career best finish of 11th in the points standings, Nogiec and his team will look to continue that forward trend in the 2012 season at Stafford Motor Speedway. Nogiec will have a new car with which to carry on his momentum from the 2011 season. Nogiec and his team have purchased the #38 car from Gary Bienkowski that was driven to 5 wins and a second place finish in the 2011 standings by George Nocera, Jr, and they are looking forward the 2012 season after what Nogiec says was a trying 2011 season.
"We had an opportunity to buy the 38 car, so we jumped on it and hopefully we can get something going for next year," said Nogiec. "Last year was an abomination for us, we've definitely had better years than we had last year. It was a tough year, I was ready to hang it up after the season was over. We were so close to finishing in the top-10, but we had an awful last race and Carla [Botticello] got by us for that spot. But we had a lot of great support from guys like Norm Sears and Shawn Thibeault in our division as well as drivers from other divisions, and we appreciated everyone's support throughout the season. With this new car, it seems like we have a new life and we're looking forward to coming to the track. We're putting the same equipment back into the car that was taken out of it before we bought it, so we're feeling good about the 2012 season. We have Adopt A Pet coming back on board with us as a sponsor and I'd like to give them a special thanks for their support, and I'd also like to thank the guys at Civali's Auto Service for their support."
With the new car seeming to be half of the success equation for Nogiec and the #00 team, Nogiec knows the second half of success will be to improve his driving style on track.

Stafford Springs, CT — After a 4-race debut effort at Stafford Speedway during the 2011 season, Salem, CT native Joe Gada is ready to make a run at winning Rookie of the Year honors in Stafford's SK Modified® division in 2012. Gada is the son of 7-time Waterford SK Modified® champion Dennis Gada, and after making several starts during the 2011 season, he is looking forward to building upon the experience he gained this season in preparation for the 2012 season.
"We're definitely excited about coming back to Stafford," said Gada. "Our main goal is to win the Rookie of the Year. We want to be consistent with top-10 finishes and hopefully from there we can contend for a top-5 finish or a win."
In his first time racing at Stafford, Gada put up very respectable finishes. In his SK Modified® debut, Gada finished 12th after qualifying in the 23rd starting position. From there, he recorded a top-10 finish with a 9th place effort in the SK Modified® 100, and he then finished 12th in the CARQUEST SK 150 and 15th in the season ending CARQUEST Fall Final feature event. Gada feels like this experience, although limited, will only serve to help him as he makes a bid for Rookie of the Year honors.

Stafford Springs, CT — Fresh from the ranks of the Wild Thing Kart Series at Stafford Motor Speedway, Ronnie Williams will be moving into the SK Light Modified division to run for Rookie of the Year honors in 2012. Williams and his family have purchased the former No. 70 Brit Andersen car for the upcoming season, so they have a proven commodity with which they will try to claim the top rookie honors. Williams, who turned 15 after the completion of the 2011 season, conducted a test session at Stafford the week after the CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend, and all systems are go for his rookie season as his No. 47 Advice One car was fast and comfortable in the test.
"The car was wicked fast in the test and it went wherever I wanted it to go on the track," said Williams. "We ended up running about 100 laps that day, so we got pretty comfortable with the car. At first we were running 22 something [seconds] but by the end of the day, we were turning the same times that the SK Lights were running at the Fall Final, so it was good for us to know that we could run those kind of times our first time out."
Williams makes the move into the SK Lights from the Wild Thing Kart Series, where he raced for 5 seasons, including both the Junior and Senior Outlaw divisions this past season and he finished 5th in the Junior Outlaw and 3rd in the Senior Outlaw points standings. After his debut outing in the private test session, Williams is feeling good about his car's performance and he has a modest goal for the 2012 season.

Chester, VT — Capping a diverse season that saw him on the podium with the Sprint Cars of New England, the USAC Dirt Midget Association and the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds at Bear Ridge Speedway, “The Fairlee Flier” Kevin Chaffee of Fairlee, VT was voted by the readers of Vermont Motorsports Magazine as the 2011 Vermont Motorsports Magazine Driver of the Year.
The versatile Chaffee had a pair of wins in his first season behind the wheel of a Midget, despite racing only part of the USAC DMA schedule. A feature victory in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds helped him finish fourth in Bear Ridge points and a solid SCoNE season saw success with an overall third place in the ultra-tight championship points battle.
“I was actually pretty surprised when I went on line and saw that I had won. On the first day of voting, I went on line and voted for a bunch of guys in a bunch of different categories. Then I kind of put it out of my mind while the voting ran for two weeks,” Chaffee said.

Seekonk, MA — It was in April of 1992 that the first Legends Car was unveiled at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The concept of creating a fun and affordable “spec” class of racing for anyone to participate in was born. President and General Manager of LMS, H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler and Elliott Forbes-Robinson, famed road racing champion, designed these 5/8-scale fiberglass full-fendered versions of the famed NASCAR modifieds driven by legendary drivers such as Fireball Roberts, Buck Baker, Curtis Turner, Speedy Thompson and Banjo Matthews.
Since that time, the Legends Cars have become one of the fastest growing segments of motorsports today. With drivers being classified into four different divisions, Legends Cars is THE racing opportunity that is available to anyone! The Pro Division is for the experienced drivers. The Masters Division features drivers 40 years and older. The Semi-Pro Division is the novice class, featuring the drivers that are new to the sport or have been inactive in other forms of racing for a while. Since the car stays the same from division to division, it is the driver that makes the difference!
Seekonk Legend Series will feature races on Opening Day, DAV Weekend and Open Wheel Wednesday* as well as 17 Friday Night Races brought to you by Nicks Pit Stop.

Stafford Springs, CT — For Stafford Late Model driver Tony Lafo, the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season is a chance for he and his #82 team to continue to build upon the progress they achieved with their car during the 2011 season.
While a couple of hard crashes prevented the team from competing in all of the races this past season, Lafo managed a best finish of 8th and he finished the year in 16th place in the Late Model points standings. While that points position might not sound all that promising on paper, Lafo says his team made significant progress during the year and he is looking to build upon that progress for the 2012 season at Stafford.
"We made some changes to the car that worked out pretty well for us this year," said Lafo. "The car was significantly faster this year than it has been in years past. We used to start up front in heat races and we would finish last, where now we won a couple of heat races, and we had some good races this year, we just didn't have a lot of luck. We had a couple of big wrecks during the year, which really hurt us, but I think we're right there with the car. If we can have a few things fall right for us and have a little luck on our side, I think we can get on the podium next season and maybe even take home a trophy."

Stafford Springs, CT — After winning his second Limited Late Model track championship this past season, Kevin Gambacorta will make the move up the ladder from the Limited Late Model division to the Late Model division and run for Rookie of the Year honors. The championship for Gambacorta this season was the third overall track title he has claimed at Stafford and he will begin a quest for a track championship in a third different division after purchasing the #64 Late Model that Michael Bennett has piloted to 5 victories and three top-6 points finishes.
"It was time for us to move up," said Gambacorta. "There are a lot of changes for the Limited Late Model division this season, so I figured if I was going to spend the money to change the car, I might as well spend that money on a Late Model car. We bought the 64 from Michael Bennett, it's a rolling chassis with a lot of new parts on it, suspension, brakes, shocks, and it has a new clip, and Dave Miller from Auto Machine has an engine ready to go for us, so we're excited about the season."
Gambacorta has 8 career wins in the Limited Late Model division, 3 career wins in the DARE Stock division, and three track titles at Stafford, but he knows he faces a new learning curve as he moves into the Late Model division in 2012.

Stafford Springs, CT — With the release of a schedule that has seen many new events as well as a few new twists and turns to it, Stafford Motor Speedway has continued to expand its 2012 schedule with the addition of the New England Truck Series to its 40th Annual CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend that is scheduled for Sept. 28-Sept. 30. The New England Truck Series (NETS) will be making only their second ever appearance at Stafford. The trucks were first at Stafford as part of the PRA Big Car Series event in August 2006 that was won by Chris Correll.
"We're excited to be racing at Stafford again," said NETS Director Lorraine Pard. "The competitor feedback we've received has been overwhelmingly positive, no one can believe that we're going to be racing at Stafford again. We've brought the Riverhead trucks into our series, so we have a pretty good truck count and we're trying to help our competitors with cost friendly rules. We handicap our feature lineups from the heat races with the faster truck starting behind the slower trucks, which makes the racing more exciting for everyone and we're looking forward to putting on an exciting show at Stafford."
New England Race Trucks feature fiberglass bodies that replicate Ford F150, Chevy Silverado, and Dodge Ram Trucks. All trucks are powered by either V-8 Ford 302, Chevy 305, Dodge 318, or the GM 602 & 603 Crate motor program. Each truck has an automatic transmission, ensuring equal power output among the Ford, Chevy, and Dodge makes. All NETS racing engines feature a spec-racing carburetor, manifold, cam, electronic ignition, dual reservoir master brake cylinders for adjustable brake bias, racing coil springs front and rear, and steel bodied racing shocks. Custom upper A-arms and wedge jack bolts provide adjustment according to track length and surface.

20-Year-Old to Compete in Northern Tour & Select Whelen Southern Mod Tour Events in 2012
CONCORD, NC — The Hillbilly Racing team has made many treks Northward from their Westfield, North Carolina race shop to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events over the years. In 2012, they will be bringing another person up with them for each event from North Carolina – their new driver.
Twenty-year-old Daniel Hemric will pilot the Hillbilly Racing 79 on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2012. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Justin Bonsignore and his team owner Kenneth Massa made a key decision early in Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway’s 2011 season.
They decided to add full-time Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing at Riverhead to their schedule. They had already committed to the full NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule and a partial Riverhead weekly schedule.
They were rewarded with Riverhead’s 2011 Modified Division track championship and a seventh-place finish in tour points.
“We didn’t plan to run Riverhead every week,” Bonsignore said. “We were just going to get the car tuned up for the tour by running the first couple of races there. But we were a top-five car every Saturday. Once we made it through the first schedule conflict we decided to stick it out at Riverhead.”

Thompson, CT — The 2012 NASCAR racing schedule at the Thompson International Speedway has been released. The twenty race lineup has generated considerable excitement as it contains a wide variety of racing programs for both competitors and fans.
The 2012 racing season at Thompson will kick off with the traditional Icebreaker event on the weekend of April 14-15 which will mark the opening of both the Thompson season and that of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The season will conclude with the traditional World Series of Speedway Racing in October. Some of the highlights of the all-new Thompson race schedule include four events for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour including the return of the UNOH Showdown event that features both the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. The format will remain similar to the inaugural UNOH Showdown including the 50-lap, $50,000.00+ showdown between the two tours. There will also be two appearances of the Modified Racing Series, extra distance races for each NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions plus the addition of the Lite Modified division as part of the track’s Thursday Night Thompson Thunder lineup. The popular Mini Stock Northern Twin Challenge will return for the third time in 2012 and some additional events are still in the works by track management for the Thursday night weekly race programs.
In adding the Lite Modifieds to the weekly lineup, track owner, Don Hoenig, said that the Lite Modifieds had been part of both the Icebreaker and the World Series recently and the positive response from both competitors and fans made the decision to add the Lite Mods to the weekly program an easy one. “This is an exciting division to watch and it has caught the imagination of all of us. We are looking forward to having the Lite Modifieds join us on a weekly basis and we anticipate that the division will grow and become a real fan favorite,” said Hoenig.

Stafford Springs, CT — For Monson, MA native Justin Bren, the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season at Stafford Motor Speedway cannot arrive fast enough. Bren and his team purchased the Limited Late Model car formerly campaigned by Rob Dow and Rick Lanagan at Stafford, and they brought the car to the 2011 CARQUEST Fall Final to shake the car down in preparation for making a run at Rookie of the Year honors in 2012.
"I can't wait for next year," said Bren. "I thought the Fall Final went pretty well for us. The first practice I went out, I just tried to make sure that nothing broke on the car, and then I started getting on it and we picked up time in every session that we went out. We started the day out about 3 seconds behind the fastest car and we ended the day 1 second behind. Someone had given me some hand me down tires that had about 200 laps on them for the practice, so we're looking forward to next year. The rear end broke in the car so we weren't able to race in the feature, which was disappointing because Jim Peterson had given me some good tires to use and I was planning on passing a couple of cars. But the big thing for us was getting our feet wet for next season and we definitely weren't the slowest car. All in all, it was a good weekend for us other than the feature, the car was fast, it felt comfortable, and everyone was telling me I did a good job."
While Bren will challenge for Rookie of the Year honors when Stafford Motor Speedway drops the green flag on the 2012 season, Bren will be a rookie in every sense of the word. Prior to his Fall Final foray this past October, Bren had never before sat behind the wheel of a racecar. But his father Warren has raced all up and down the east coast for over 30 years and Bren can lean on his father for experience and guidance as he gets ready to take on his first full season behind the wheel.

Stafford Springs, CT — When Stafford Motor Speedway released its 2012 schedule, it strayed from the norm and had a host of changes in store for the 2012 season with extra distance and double feature nights. The 2012 Stafford schedule has another change to announce and that is the addition of a 25-lap Pro-4 Modified feature event to the CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend, which is scheduled for Sept. 28-Sept. 30.
The Pro-4 Modified division will run a 20-lap feature event as part of the Saturday schedule of events for the CARQUEST Fall Final, joining Stafford's SK Lights, Limited Late Models, and DARE Stocks in feature action on Saturday, September 29th.
The addition of the Pro-4 Modifieds to the CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend gives the Pro-4 Modifieds two race dates at Stafford during the 2012 season. The Pro-4 Modifieds join the ISMA Supermodifieds and NEMA Midgets on Saturday, June 30 as part of the CARQUEST Super Saturday program before returning to Stafford as part of the CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend festivities.
"We're very excited about having two races at Stafford this season," said Stan Mertz, Business Manager for Pro-4 Modifieds of New England. "The Fall Final is a great addition to our schedule. Our competitors love racing at Stafford, it is certainly one of the best tracks in the area and the response from our competitors was overwhelmingly positive when we announced this event at our annual meeting."

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway's all-time winningest driver, Ted Christopher, will have an extra opportunity to add to his career win total in addition to his SK Modified® and Whelen Modified Tour duties at Stafford in 2012. With the addition of the Pro All-Star Series (PASS) to the Stafford schedule, Christopher has secured a ride with car owner Scott Mulkern for the PASS race on Sunday, August 26 at Stafford, and he will be looking to add another win to his Stafford win total, which currently stands at 114 feature victories.
"Once I heard about the PASS race coming to Stafford, I called Scott Mulkern, and we put a deal together for me to drive his car at Stafford," said Christopher. "He's got a real good car and real good equipment, he won at Oxford this year, so I'll be looking to attack and hopefully take home another trophy. I won the first Modified Racing Series race at Stafford, and it would be a good thing for me if we can have another race like the MRS race was."
Christopher has won in a PASS car before, winning the 2004 PASS race at Thompson Speedway, and he has won at Stafford in a ProStock, including 4 races in a row during the 1996 season. Christopher hopes that he will enjoy a homefield advantage over the rest of the competition when the PASS cars take the green flag.
"A lot of these guys, it will be their first time racing at Stafford, so hopefully that will be an advantage for me," said Christopher. "The PASS cars are a lot like ProStock cars, but they're a bit more sophisticated with bigger engines and better shocks, so the cars should get around Stafford real good. PASS is a great series, they have great car counts, and everyone loves to race at Stafford. I'm really looking forward to the race, it should be a lot of fun."

“We’ve had a lot of guys asking about racing at Stafford through the years and we finally were able to put a deal together with Mark Arute to bring a PASS race to Stafford,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “This is huge for us to get a race in a Southern New England market at a premier race facility. It’s hard to find a facility that is better than Stafford and we’re very excited about this opportunity to race at Stafford Motor Speedway. I’m sure we’ll have a large car count and we may even see some of the PASS South drivers make the trip up to Stafford for this race.”
The PASS Super Late Models will see the return to Stafford of drivers like 4-time PASS North champion Ben Rowe, Mike Rowe, Travis Benjamin, Bill Penfold, and Kelly Moore, who each have prior experience racing at Stafford in Busch North (now K & N Pro Series East) competition. The PASS field also has second-generation drivers like Scott Dragon and DJ Shaw along with drivers like 6-time PASS North Champion Johnny Clark, Scott Alexander, Cassius Clark, Canadian drivers Lonnie Summerville and Alexander Gingras, and many more who will make up the starting field. Moore is a three-time winner at Stafford from the Busch North division and DJ Shaw’s father Dale has driven to victory lane once at Stafford in a Busch North car, which may give them an advantage over the rest of the PASS field.

Weekly and Touring Series champions battle on track
Charlotte, NC — Max Gresham added another trophy to his mantle on Wednesday after winning the Fourth Annual NASCAR Touring & Weekly Series Champions/Media Karting Challenge as Champions Week got into full swing.
Gresham, the reigning NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion, started dead last in the 14-kart field and took the lead with just under two minutes remaining in the 15-minute contest at Charlotte’s Victory Lane Indoor Karting that pitted the seven NASCAR champions in town for the week against members of the local media.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Gresham, the 18-year-old out of Griffin, Ga. “It was cool to race against the champions from the other series and it was even more cool to beat them.”
George Brunnhoelzl III, champion of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, finished second and was the race leader at a competition caution with five minutes remaining in the race.
