08/01 Wild N Wacky Wednesday Results

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl was back in action for another round of Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday racing earlier Wednesday evening, staging an exciting night of motorsports. The track’s X-Car division had a special event but the Legend Cars division stole the show with a thrilling conclusion in their event. Dana Dimatteo of Farmington walked away a winner after a memorable duel with Dave Garbo Jr. of Stonington over the race’s final two laps. Craig Miner of Higganum took down his first win of the year with an impressive performance in the X-Car race, while Ken Downing III of Branford won in the night’s Super X-Car event. Derek Debbis of Oakdale won his third consecutive Bandolero feature and Victoria Finkbein of Colchester won the evening’s Wacky Musical Car event.

Dimatteo and Garbo put on a spirited battle at the conclusion of the night’s 20-lap Legends Car feature. Dimatteo rocketed into the race lead on lap-5, becoming the race’s third leader. Once out front, Dimatteo moved out to a comfortable advantage while Garbo battled his way into and through the top-five cars. Garbo raced to second position on lap-11 then tracked down Dimatteo over the next several laps.

Garbo reached Dimatteo’s rear bumper and actually made a successful pass for the lead on lap-17, however Dimatteo refused to back down and battled back. On lap-18 Dimatteo got to Garbo’s inside racing to turn one. The pair made contact on multiple occasions over the final lap and a half, including coming to the checkered flag exiting turn four. The final sprint to the finish line saw Dimatteo edge Garbo by the slimmest of margins. The Speedbowl’s Official Scorers had Dimatteo unanimously victorious at the finish line in a photo finish.

Woody Pitkat Welcomes Back Long Time Sponsor American Sleeve Bear to His Whelen Modified Tour Effort

Stafford Springs, CT — When the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour comes to Stafford Motor Speedway this Friday for the 22nd Annual Stafford 150, hometown driver Woody Pitkat will welcome back a familiar sponsor. Pitkat has announced that American Sleeve Bearing, located at 1 Spring Street in Stafford Springs, will return as an associate sponsor of his #11 Spectro Oil Ford, reuniting Pitkat with the sponsor that helped him break into Stafford’s Late Model division after starting his career in the DARE Stock division.

“I saw Howard [Buckland] a few times over the winter at the main street diner and kind of hinted a little bit to him and then I saw him in May and he said he’d like to get back into racing a little,” said Pitkat. “He helps the Saunders twins [Albert and Cliff] in the DARE Stocks and I asked him if he could help me out with the Tour car and he said that would be a good way for him to get back into racing. Every time I talk to Howard, he’s always real excited about Albert and Cliff and how well they’re doing in the DARE Stock division. Howard and ASB was my first ever real sponsor with the Late Model. And they were my big backer throughout my whole Late Model career. Even when I drove for Pat [Kretschman], he was still helping me out. This will be the first time he’ll be helping me with an open wheel car, so hopefully we can get a good finish for him. If things go well, he might be able to help us out with the Tour car for the Fall Final.”

Although Pitkat has made limited starts in the Whelen Modified Tour this season, he has posted three top-10 finishes in only 4 starts. With two eighth place finishes at Stafford thursfar this season, Pitkat is hoping for another good finish to be able to reward American Sleeve Bearing for helping to sponsor his car.

Ted Christopher to Drive Joe Brady #00 in Stafford 150 this Friday Night at Stafford Motor Speedway

Stafford Springs, CT — After parting ways with the #36 Ed Whelan owned team following the Whelen Modified Tour’s last stop at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Ted Christopher has secured a ride for this Friday night’s Stafford 150 with the #00 Joe Brady owned team. Christopher has secured 18 of his 42 career Whelen Modified Tour victories and his only series championship behind the wheel of Whelan’s #36 car, but he is confident that he can run well at Stafford after starting 30th and winning the Modified Racing Series event this past weekend at Thompson Speedway in Brady’s #00.

“This is the same car we won with at Thompson after starting 30th,” said Christopher. “It’s a real good car, it handles well, and I’ve always been comfortable in that car whenever I’ve driven it. We got a Tony’s Engines motor from Gary Cretty at ATC and it’s got good power, so I think we’ll be good on Friday night.”

Christopher is Stafford’s winningest driver of all-time with 118 career feature victories. He has won at Stafford in the SK Modified®, Whelen Modified Tour, ProStock, Camping World East, and Modified Racing Series divisions, and he has his sights set on yet another checkered flag in this Friday night’s Stafford 150.
