Whelen Mods Tour At NHMS To Air On SPEED

F.W. Webb 100 To Be Carried Live From The “Magic Mile”

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR has announced the F.W. Webb 100 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 22 will air live on SPEED at noon ET.

The addition of television coverage for this race has also changed the previously-announced start time. The F.W. Webb 100 will now take the green flag at 12:15 p.m. instead of 3 p.m.

The New Hampshire 100 for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will now follow the F.W. Webb 100 on the race card at New Hampshire that day at 2:30 p.m. That race will air on SPEED as originally announced, on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.

Stafford Speedway Postpones Friday, August 10th Limited Late Model Double Duty Program

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway has postponed its August 10th Limited Late Model Double Duty racing program due to rain. The twin 15-lap Limited Late Model feature events will move to next Friday, August 17th, where they will join the twin 12-lap DARE Stock features as well as the SK Modifieds®, Late Models, and SK Lights.

Following the Limited Late Model / DARE Stock Double Duty event next Friday night will be the SK Light’s turn for a double feature night on August 24th.
The Pro All-Star Series makes its Stafford debut on Sunday, August 26, and the Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to Stafford on Friday, August 31st for the Shark Cycle 80.

Finalists Announced for Announcer Search

Fans to Vote for their Favorite for UNOH Battle At The Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona International Speedway’s UNOH Battle At The Beach announcer search has been narrowed to five finalists. Now race fans have the chance to select their favorite local NASCAR Home Track public address announcer to join the announcing team for the inaugural event on Feb. 18-19.

The five finalists are:
Jim Burns – The booming voice of Elko Speedway in Minnesota, Burns’ enthusiasm, passion and “wild sense of humor” have been welcoming race fans for 27 seasons.
Joe Coss – From the booth to the pits and in Victory Lane, Coss entertains race fans at Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut with his technical knowledge and insight.
Eric Huenefeld – From his home track of Rockford Speedway in Illinois, Huenefeld is known for the passion, knowledge and excitement he brings to his race commentary.
Adam Mackey – A seasoned veteran from Barberton Raceway Park in Ohio, Mackey has called races across the country throughout his career.
JW Martin – Martin’s career began at the early age of four calling races on his living room floor. Now he is the voice of Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia.

Between Aug. 10 and Sept. 30, fans can view each finalist’s video auditions at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/announcer and vote for their favorite announcer. The winner, who will be announced at the postseason championship celebrations for the NASCAR regional and touring series in Charlotte in December, will join the UNOH Battle At The Beach announcing team at Daytona International Speedway in February 2013.

1966 West Haven Speedway Champion Red O’Keefe Passes Away

Red O'Keefe former West Haven Speedway champion Red O’Keefe passed-away on August 9, 2012.

Red, who had turned 80 earlier this year, was a standout New England modified competitor for many seasons claiming feature events at a number of the regions speedways.

He was the 1966 West Haven Speedway track champion and nearly repeated in ’67 placing second to fellow United Stock Car Racing Club star, the late Johnny “King” Cambino. The winning margin for that’s years title race was a scant single point.

In reminiscing about Red’s career, family friend Mike Guerette stated “Red probably had his best years at West Haven competing in the tough Non-Ford division. He also built his own cars, always with an emphasis on safety. He added innovations like front & rear firewalls, a fire extinguisher, and a full roll cage not unlike today’s NASCAR designs. In addition to his championship, he also received many other awards at West Haven such as “Top Driver/Mechanic” and “Most Popular Driver.”
