Devil’s Bowl Speedway Unveils Exciting 2013 Schedule

Sixteen stock car racing events for “Vermont’s Fastest Family Fun”

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has announced its most exciting asphalt stock car racing schedule to date for the 2013 season. Sixteen action-packed events will feature a different headline race at each outing, creating a summer full of dramatic door-to-door competition for the local stars of the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at the West Haven, VT half-mile oval.

The season opens on Sunday, May 5 at 1:30pm with the historic “Spring Green 113” for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Models. The 39th running of the Spring Green marks the third consecutive year that the event will be held at Devil’s Bowl; Wayne Helliwell, Jr., of Dover, NH posted the first victory of his ACT championship season in the 2012 event. The race also opens the championship schedule for the open-wheel Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, the American-made, V8-powered Renegades, and the entry-level four-cylinder Mini Stocks of the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

Summer officially arrives as the Friday night season begins with the People’s United Bank Memorial Day Special on Friday, May 24 at the new earlier weekly start time of 7:00pm. Twin 25-lap features for the ground-pounding Modifieds and the championship opener for the J&S Steel Late Models are scheduled along with the Renegades, Mini Stocks, and a holiday fireworks show. The Modifieds will also have Twin 25 doubleheaders on Friday, June 21 and Friday, August 16. Ron Proctor of Charlton, NY will try for his third consecutive Modified championship in 2013.

ACT “Tracks by the Facts” – Canaan Fair Speedway

Tracks by the Facts – Canaan Fair Speedway

Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan, New Hampshire is the second of three tracks returning to the ACT schedule after several years. The 1/3-mile oval will host the 6th point counting event of the 2013 ACT season on Saturday, June 15.

· Canaan has hosted 6 ACT events to date.
· The first ACT event at Canaan was won by Phil Scott on September 6, 1997.
· The most recent event was won by A.J. Begin on June 26, 2005.
· Joey Laquerre and Phil Scott have both started all six ACT events held at Canaan to date.
· Scott holds the record for top 10s with four and is tied with Brian Hoar for most top 5s with 3 at Canaan.
· Scott also has the highest career earnings from Canaan with $,4755.
· There have been six different winners in those six events: Scott (1997), Chris Fisher (1998), Brian Hoar (2000), Dave Pembroke (2001), Ken Dufour (2002), Begin (2005).

PASS South and PASS Pro Late Model Schedules Now Complete With Orange County Speedway Addition on 10/19

CHARLOTTE, NC — Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials announced today that both the 2013 PASS South Super Late Model and PASS Pro Late Model schedules are now complete with the addition of a date at Orange County Speedway. The nation’s top short track stars will race at Orange County Speedway near Rougemont, NC on October 19 as part of the 8th Annual Orange Blossom Special. The date joins an impressive schedule of events previously announced for the PASS South Super Late Models and PASS Pro Late Models. Excluding Hickory Motor Speedway, more PASS South races have been held at Orange County Speedway than any other facility in the Southeast. The 8th Annual Orange Blossom Special marks the first time, however, that PASS has raced in the Fall at the high-banked 3/8 mile oval.

The PASS North Super Late Model schedule is also nearing completion and negotiations are currently underway to possibly add an additional race.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — With nearly 700 feature event wins to his credit over a driving career that spans over three and a half decade, Billy Pauch, Frenchtown, N.J., has done just about all there is to be done in short track auto racing. All that is except win the main event at the NAPA Auto Parts Atlantic City Indoor Race, inside Atlantic City, N.J.’s Boardwalk Hall.

The 11th running of the marquee event run under the direction of Len Sammons Motorsports Productions, is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 1-2, 2013. The event will be the third and final race of the Fatheadz Eyewear Indoor Series.

Recently named one of Area Auto Racing News’ ‘Greatest Drivers Of It’s First Fifty Years’, Pauch’s credentials are incomparable. He earned more than 100 feature event victories at three New Jersey speedways – the currently operating New Egypt Speedways and the now closed Flemington and East Windsor Speedways.Pauch will have a golden opportunity to make good on his Boardwalk Hall quest. He will be reunited with the same car he drove to a win in the ‘preliminary night’ event of 2009. “It takes some luck to win indoors but with a good car you can make some of your own luck,” Pauch has said. “I had some luck the night I won the prelim race.”Highly respected car builder Colin Martin will be preparing Pauch’s car.

Craven Tops Honorees At Northeast Motorsports Expo

AUGUSTA, Maine – Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and Maine native Ricky Craven was presented with the 2013 Award Of Excellence on Friday, January 11, to highlight the 25th annual Northeast Motorsports Expo last weekend at the Augusta Civic Center.

“In my opinion, the Award Of Excellence is for somebody who has done a lot for motorsports in the state of Maine over the years,” said Northeast Motorsports Expo owner and promoter Steve Perry. “The things that Ricky Craven has done for the sport are really hard to put into words, but I think we all know what he's meant to the racing community here.”

Craven, of Newburgh, Maine, won two Sprint Cup Series races in his career – at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway – and currently serves as an analyst for ESPN's NASCAR coverage.

More than 100 awards were handed out to racers at every level of competition during the three-day expo which was attended by several thousand enthusiasts of stock car racing and other forms of motorsports in New England. The Heluva Good! 25 honoring the Top 25 most influential people in New England motorsports over the last quarter-century was also unveiled, with veteran Turner, Maine, racer Mike Rowe taking the top spot. Rowe is the career wins leader at Oxford Plains Speedway, where he is a multi-time champion, in addition to owning championships at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Wiscasset Speedway and in PASS-sanctioned Super Late Models.
